The difference between KTTW card and Magic Band

Last time I stayed on site I had a KTTW card that

Let me into my room
Had my ticket on there so I could use for Fast Pass (atleast 8 a day at MK)
Had my dining plan credits on there
I could charge things in the park or anywhere on Disney property to it.

So am I right in saying the only difference is that I can now only have 3 fast passes in one park only, but book them in advance.

I just don't understand why its cost a billion dollars. I am obviously missing something big! Please enlighten me.

Imagine all the people making the choices of magic bands.. how many are receiving dupicate bands instead of reusing the first set. This is about people doing spilt stays and getting more then one band.

and lets not forget the many snail mails people are receiving to tell them about their bands AFTER they have already received them

The only thing I can add is that if you had an annual pass or purchased tickets through another source, your tickets were not on your KTTW card. Therefore every time you went into a park or wanted to get a fast pass, you had to pull out your pass. Not a biggie, but I would hold them for both me and DH and I was always afraid that they would not make it back into my purse. I do like that aspect of the Magic Bands.

Complaining is human nature. You can hand someone a billion dollars and they'd find something to complain about.

I don't get why they spent a billion dollars but even if the KTTW card and the magic band basically do the same thing. It's still a whole knew system they paid for. They didn't upgrade the old one they implemented a whole new one (by the sound of it) and this costs ALOT and all the little things add up too like a PP said. All that snail mail and money and promoting this new system. Costs just add and add. A billion does sound like ALOT of money though. They are probably struggling to make it all back right about now. But we all know Disney has made horrible decisions in the past (I believe it was when they bought ABC out that they went bankrupt if my memory holds) and they came back from that. So we just have to wait to see how much more it costs them to fix this if they even will....
