Maybe the amount of views is an indication of just how many people were lurkers who may not have contributed, but made it a daily stop on their surfing list.

I wondered about this myself.. If the DB was "so" problematic, why not just erase it COMPLETELY??

Kind of reminds me of Kmarts advertising practices.. Advertise the items, but when you get there they don't have any....

I'm not sure which posts you are talking about, but I also abhor racism, and discrimination. I kind of feel like we are getting a little of that now from the CB, oh well. Although the majority of people on the CB are wonderful. They are the ones that may keep me around.

As to the mention that 'we should have moderated ourselves'. Well, that pretty much is what the majority did do. The few that didn't, posted alot of garbage and stuck out clearly. THEY should have been banned and stayed banned.

Had I known the DB would be closed due to the few who couldn't control themselves, I would have taken the initiative and banned them or deleted their posts myself...oh yeah, silly me.....I couldn't do that. I guess I expected a moderator/WM to do that job, since only they had that power.

I've been wondering the same thing. What's the point of a "read-only" debate board? Read only--debate...Read only--debate...Isn't that an oxymoron? And I am NOT calling anyone a moron!!!

But really, what is the purpose of even having it available? I'm not trying to be a smart aleck, I'm just trying to understand.

Thats the weird thing about the DB. A lot of people on there had vastly different ways of looking at the world than I did, but I still liked hearing what they had to say.

Seriously, if that was the case, and I dont subscribe to that notion, what is the problem with it? If someone wants to be a "racist" I want to know. A closet racist is much worse than an open racist. At least you know what you are dealing with.

It has nothing to do with not liking Brits or not wanting them to visit, and everything to do with security measures. I would expect the exact same response if I griped about foreign visitor security at Heathrow.

With respect MHopkins2, I think as an American you just don't always really "see" the posts intended to offend other nationalities.

And with all due respect FIK, I think that your statement about posts "intended to offend other nationalities" is wrong. People may have been offended by them, but that hardly means that they were posted with that objective in mind.
