This is exactly my point about moderating the DB. If the DB had been moderated effectively then the name calling would not have happened or would have been halted in it's tracks.

But you know what? It was just crazy over there. And these moderators are volunteers. Maybe it was just too much for people anymore. I mean even when the DB was "good", it was a full time job moderating.

Time to just put the board to rest and be done with it all. Can't say I blame anyone for that. :(

I really don't think it was any fault or lack of policing by the moderators. People that post there know how they should behave and went overboard. Their own fault. These aren't school children to be reminded. If they're getting too hot under the collar about something, they should have stepped away before getting out of hand. Their own fault.

Who is they? There were a lot of posters on the debate board who stayed within the guidelines, who didn't get hot under the collar, who did step away -- why should those people be punished because of the actions of a handful? You make it sound like everyone on the debate board participated in the name calling, the nastiness, etc and that is simply not true. There were a handful in the last month or so who did violate the rules and as Ripleysmom has said if they had been moderated then the board would not have had the problems it did. All you have to do is go to the now closed board to see whose threads are no longer there to realize who the real "problem posters" were. The majority of the debate board posters are not to blame.

Good point. And ToriLammy, I'm sure Pin Wizard does not mean every single person. Like I said previously a few rotten apples did spoil it for the rest. Is that fair? No. Should moderators volunteer overtime to police them? Not if they don't want to. So bottom line.....end of board.

"Time to just put the board to rest and be done with it all."

I agree with that

"Can't say I blame anyone for that."

We'll just have to agree to disagree on this.

Not to pick a fight but by "people", I hope you don't mean all because there were only a few that went "over the top" by the board standards. But since we're all different means that what causes one person's nickers to get all bunched up will make another laugh all the while the post STILL meeting the board standards.

Face it, some people are just overly sensitive. For the most part that's not a bad thing, that's just the way it is. For all the time I spent there (which is hundreds of hours over the last 2+ years) , I rarely saw anything that I would want someone to apologize to me. I guess you could say I have thick skin.

Now I'm SURE that some people are reading this thread thinking, "would ya look at the way they argue" or something like that.

Most people AVOID confrontations. I usually don't. I guess that's why I have a higher tolerance level to mud slinging and name calling.

Anyway, just my 4 cents (inflation)

While it might be a little more work to have to look through pages of posts rather than skimming down page one, it really will be nice to have some fresh voices involved.

And we'll be able to carry on more discussion-oriented threads, as opposed to the debate-style format that was required before.

If some posters *cough*minniepumpernickle*cough* could refrain from making comments about having an education or needing a lobotomy to post on the CB--maybe people wouldn't be so defensive about seeing debates posted here and there. I mean, they have no idea that she was most famous for her sunshiny smilies and that's about it, on the DB. Come on, minnie. Are you trying to make the DBers look bad?

Honestly, I'm really surprised at the number of people who say they've lurked but not posted on the DB. I had no idea--I thought only DBers actually read the DB.

Wow, this is really weird! Some of us like to discuss deeper things other than what color is your underwear, or what color are your eyes! Are you trying to dumb down the DIS boards? Oh well, better put my blue collar hat back on!

Do we alwyas have to talk about "dumb" topics on here? It's hard for me to act like a stepford, because I'm not one.

minniepumpernickel - you posted both of these..as for a few others like this. Note that these are from different threads...but again, the same tone in both.

My question is, what do you get out of posting these things? Does it make you feel better to call people in so many words.."Less then intelligent," or "dumb" as you use in both of these?

Like I said, I could care less if you call me stupid. I have been through far worse then someone I dont know calling me unitelligent...but here's a thought. Instead of putting up posts about how dumb you think people or topics are...just skip them. The same way people that don't enjoy debating will skip those posts. I really dont see a purpose in making comments like these unless you personally get something out of it.

So again, why post these at all?

I did not say everyone. Unfortunately, the actions of some ruined it for everyone.

wow, looks like it was an interesting weekend!!!
glad to see most of the DBers comming together over something.
yea we may have been on different sides in alot of debates, but when the chips are down it was nice too see most comming together.

VH,i know yea have to be hurting, yea only started 1 topic in 3 days.

FIK,i may not have agreed with you on alot of things, but everything you have said in this thread is great.

ok, enough of the warm fuzzies. i think my keyboard is plugged with PD.

:smooth: :smooth: :smooth:

It would have been nice if the DB would have just been moderated more closely instead of shut down.

Well fancy you turning up Gary - I'm not hurting i'm having a great day trip planning.

Thinking of St.Paddys day in the States - ;)

RM I guess we will agree for the second time. ;) I have to say that I was hopeful that after the dust settled I would find a "change of heart" and the debate board would be restored. It must be that Pixie Dust getting in my eyes.

Opps, there goes the baby with the bath water!

It IS too bad the people running the DIS felt it necessary to get rid of the Debate Board. Was it Disney related? Admitably no. Did it serve the DIS community? Certainly, yes!

Following this new line, I also suggest eliminating the Community Board. It certainly "DOES NOT further (the DIS) primary purpose, Disney travel planning and a Disney community." I also suggest dumping "In Memorian," because it does not fall under these guidelines either. You might as well throw out "Just Say Thanks" too.

Just a couple thoughts.

I only get to DIS during the week, because I don't have a computer at home. Imagine my shock when I logged on today!

I had a lot of very eloquent things to say, but bottom line is, I'm just sad that such an enjoyable part of my day is gone. I guess the DB wasn't enough of a disney community...although I think most of the DB regulars would disagree.:(

You have selective memory. The train of thought went like this.

American: We have a right and a duty to protect our country's borders any way we see fit.

Brit: Good. Then we wont be coming to spend our money in America.

American: Fine. There will be more room in Disney for me.
