Like I said if you want to read fiction.. read some of the "we are the debate borgs and we will be taking over" or "the sky is falling" posts

Yes, I have been happy over the years that you've been moderating. I used to enjoy reading your posts more. Especially the ones about the type of music that you liked. Perhaps if the DB had been moderated better, like some people have suggested, it would have survived. I really don't know, and don't concern myself too much with it.

I like raeding science fiction. Can you give me a link to the Borg posts? Have they been deleted? :D

We didn't say you guys can't debate anymore! We just said you have to debate in a respectful manner - you know, the way an intelligent debate should be held. You guys weren't acting like "Meet the Press" - it was more like "Jerry Springer"

I look forward to reading some debates where everyone can contribute to their beliefs without being called an idiot or worse.

Not all of us were. I've seen some of you act worse on other sites too. Just to be fair!:sunny:

Gee, with that attitude, you would have blended in quite easily on the DB.

Plus, you really hurt my feelings (sniff sniff).

Somebody please sprinkle some PD on me and pass me the kleenex?

Oh, and how about a hug or two?

She's a tough woman, and thats a good thing!:sunny: I see nothing wrong with women being assertive. Hopefully that is still allowed on the CB. (sigh);)

I totally agree. There was time when a few of us from the UK felt quite appalled at the way some of those on the DB acted towards all from the UK. We hoped that was not representative of the USA in general.

As this board relies on sponsership ( from commercial companies selling tourist services) , if those few on the DB "put off" people travelling to the USA then the sponsers could lose out!

I remember one debate about USA security and the impact on the travel industry and the "usual few" basically said ..."we don't care whether the UK come here or not!" ....charming...wonder how many potential clients that attitude put of ???

Denise :)

Wouldn't that comment deserve the same response I got from MeanLaureen in that "it's only a message board" and that it's laughable that whatever was posted on there would affect someone so deeply that they would cancel their US vacation.

The fact that we are even having discussions like this proves to me that it was more than "just a message board".

No...I do not think some of the spiteful responses that were made on the DB were "laughable"....

...maybe people would not cancel their trip but would think about going somewhere else....we would all say " lets hope we don't meet a debater in the line for Splash"

...I suppose we all think people that go to WDW are friendly and pixie dust...thats what we pay the money for ...the magic...the debate board proved that they are no such thing!!

If stating that some of the DBers are in shock over the closing of the DB can be called laughable because "it was only a message board" then it's equally laughable that someone can get so upset from that same message board and cancel thier trip to the US.

While the chance that'd you'd meet up with someone from the DB in line at Splash is very remote (but I did run into my cousin that I hadn't seen in about 15 years at MGM, so it's not entirely impossible), I doubt that they would treat you the same way you perceived face to face.

You really must have taken what was said very very personally. I'm sorry that your experience there was so awful.

How you can characterize all people on the DB as unfriendly toward people from the UK is quite a leap in my opinion.

I can tell you that not everyone that goes to WDW (even those that weren't on the DB) were the friendliest people you'd meet. I've met a lot of friendly people from all over on my trips to WDW but I've also met a few toads too.

ear_poppin,

That people said those things infuriated me at the time. Unfortunately, being Canadian, I had not a leg to stand on to defend your rights. In fact, I was once told that since I was not only from Canada, but from French speaking Quebec, that anything I posted should be dismissed ( or words to that effect ). After living in the US, please let me assure you that Americans are NOT like that at all.

Until moving here I wold have said that Canadians had more in common with Brits. We are very similar you know :-) But now that I am here, I see that my own opinion of Americans was so tainted by just the kind of statements you are talking about. Why it is that those people end up being the ones by which outsiders judge Americans, I have yet to figure out. But I can promise you that they are not the majority. That if you live among them ( other than the accent ) you would feel at home. No one at any time in any place has ever made me feel unwelcome. Ever.

While the chance that'd you'd meet up with someone from the DB in line at Splash is very remote (but I did run into my cousin that I hadn't seen in about 15 years at MGM, so it's not entirely impossible), I doubt that they would treat you the same way you perceived face to face.

That is one of the most interesting things I have read so far in this entire saga. Maybe if people treated each other the way they would face to face we wouldn't have these issues.
I think there are a lot of people that are far braver behind a keyboard than they would ever be in real life.
I would like to think I am pretty much the same way in RL as I am here.. and seeing as I have met as many DIS'ers as anyone..except maybe Dan Murphy :) I think there is plenty of verification for that... if you are not..if you like to hurt people online but smile at their face then maybe you (and I don't mean the person that posted that quote) needs to consider why....

John, It is not concern about running into one of these people. It is a fear that they represent the way most Americans feel about foreigners. It is definitely a " you are not really welcome" feeling. You and I may know the person saying these things is way off base, but how is someone who has never been here to know that they are the aberration not the rule?

Okay, I'll bite. What other sites have you seen me act worse on? Should be interesting since the only other sites I post at regularly are for Trading Spaces and an occasional one on the Red Lines Hot Wheels board.

lol, I'm definitely not going to get into this discussion! I think that it's okay for women to act assertive, and even aggressive sometimes. I don't frequent sites that are strictly for bashing, though. Although I have been a voyeur at some.

I'll leave the rest of your comments for others to respond to, if they feel so inclined.:D

Well, I for one, was in complete shock. And I was unable to formulate what I wanted to say for a while. Some are not capable of enough empathy to understand how we felt? That is unfortunate. But please do not compound it dismissively laughing at someone's feelings.

For what it is worth I used to post occasionally on the debate board but I stopped when rebuttles turned from "I disagree" and "My opinion or view of this topic is" to "You are an idiot/stupid/enter your deragatory comment on my intelligence here" and "I'm right and you are wrong"

I don't know you, maybe you weren't like that and if so, I'm sorry that I lumped you into that group - just don't expect me to not defend myself when you dragged me into this thread to start with by accusing my screenname as a less than welcoming presense. Haven't had a problem with it before, in fact I was incouraged to use my screenname by other mods and webmasters when I was changing from MZDavis - a name that I used in conjunction with my husband Obi-Wan Pinobi.

If you knew me I think you would realize that I can be one of the nicest people you ever met - just that I enjoy a practical joke or two at others expense time to time.

And if you are that sad I'll stop by Sam's Club today and get you the jumbo pack of Kleenex, with lotion or without?

Sorry, but I just HAD to respond to this one.. If you believe what you have posted above, you need to do a search of the CB archives.. Over the years there have been quite a few "Jerry Springer" types right here and alas! They weren't even DBer's!!

Okie Dokie.. I'll be waiting to find out what sites I frequent where I bash people - must be posting in my sleep again

Whoops.. okay I admit it. I did post on the Trading Spaces board that Hildi couldn't decorate her way out of a paper bag. I'm bad.

ouuuu, looks like we might have a cat fight :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Hey, I agree with you there. I've seen it here too. I was just explaining why I didn't post on the debate board anymore. If the theme of a board is debating, I would expect it would be more intelligent that calling names for opposing views.

Heck on the CB we have Jerry Springer, Jenny Jones, Oprah, Dr. Phil, Sally Jesse Raphel and Ricki Lake all rolled up into one :)
