Becky, you've got one more TBS sister here!
:music: :rolleyes1 :charac2: :rockband:
(All the musical smilies I can find.)

I played various woodwinds. What instrument(s) did you play?

Hi sister :sunny: It really is a small world.

Where did you go to school?

At one point or another, I have played piano, b flat soprano clarinet, bass clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, trumpet, trombone. I also used to sing in choirs.

In high school I took some theory classes and I considered majoring in music but couldn't dedicate myself to that many hours in a practice room. To me it is fun and spending the amount of hours in a practice room in order to major in it would have turned it into work for me.

I know this is totally off topic... But DD is sitting here singing "the Farmer in the Dell" She has a few of the words mixed up and I am trying to remember how it went. Is the order: Farmer takes a wife... wife takes a child... child takes a dog...dog takes a cat....cat takes a mouse...mouse takes a fish...fish takes a worm.... hi ho the merrio the farmer in the Dell? At least that is how I am remembering it.
O.K. enough of the afternoon sing-a-long. Back to your regularly scheduled programming. :rotfl:

We always sang it farmer takes a wife...wife takes a child...child takes a nurse...nurse takes a dog...dog takes a cat...cat takes a rat...rat takes the cheese...the cheese stands alone.

I just received this from my brother and I thought it was fitting here... Just substitute the root beer for diet coke.

A little boy wanted to meet God. He knew it was a long trip to where
God lived, so he packed his suitcase with Twinkies and a six-pack of
root beer and he started his journey.

When he had gone about three blocks, he met an elderly man. The man
was sitting in the park just feeding some pigeons.

The boy sat down next to him and opened his suitcase. He was about to
take a drink from his root beer when he noticed that the man looked
hungry, so he offered him a Twinkie.

The man gratefully accepted it and smiled at boy. His smile was so
pleasant that the boy wanted to see it again, so he offered him a root
beer.

Again, the man smiled at him.

The boy was delighted! They sat there all afternoon eating and
smiling, but they never said a word.

As it grew dark, the boy realized how tired he was and he got up to
leave, but before he had gone more than a few steps, he turned around,
ran back to the man, and gave him a hug. The man gave him his biggest
smile ever.

When the boy opened the door to his own house a short time later, his
mother was surprised by the look of joy on his face. She asked him,
"What did you do today that made you so happy?

"He replied, "I had lunch with God." Before his mother could respond,
he added, "You know what? God's got the most beautiful smile I've
ever seen!"

Meanwhile, the elderly man, also radiant with joy, returned to his
home.
His son was stunned by the look of peace on his face, and he asked,
"Dad, what did you do today that made you so happy?"

The old man replied, "I ate Twinkies in the park with God." Before his son responded, he added, "You know, he's much younger than I
expected."

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word,
a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring,
all of which have the potential to turn a life around. People come
into our lives for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. Embrace all
equally!
Thanks. I love that story. I remember when we first moved here away from our family and friends and DH and I were having problems I was so lonely and depressed. We went to a church and someone hugged me, I cried so hard but it was really cathartic and I began to feel better. It is so true that a simple act can touch a person's(even a stranger's) life. I still think of that older lady fondly, reminded me of my grandma. :)

I'm sure you must already have an answer by now, but I think I know this one.

A truck.

I work for Kodak, and I have been to the Kodak plant in Harrow, England a few times, and I have learned quite a few English words/phrases. I always threatened to make what I called an English - American dictionary.

Work related words that I have learned in "English" are spanner and torch. Anyone but Clare can guess at these if you like.

I'm sure that someone already did these.

Torch is a flashlight. Ds6 has been playing the Chronicles of Narnia game and now always refers to a flashlight as a torch.

Spanner is a tool, I think a wrench, but I'm not positive.

I noticed you have 3. We found last year that adding the 4th (wasn't planned but we're thankful for the surprise  ) wasn't as hard as when we had the other 3. My oldest at 7 helps out a lot. Now if only he'd change diapers like Julia :rotfl2: . Now I have heard from large families with like 10 :earseek: that the more you add on the easier as the older ones help in a large family more. DH would need a straightjacket if we had 10. :rotfl: But, I admire those that can handle it so well.

Guess what?? Actually, I have...4!! The almost 18 year old is hard to capture in pictures. I agree with you, the 4th was a piece of cake. I think hubby's theory about adding another baby is "It's like ice cream, too much of a good thing is still not good for you" I am giving myself a year to decide for sure...then one of us has to close down the factory for good. :rotfl:

We've been known to change "shout hooray" to "whisper hooray" ourselves!

Have you used this one with your 3's?

Tune: Skip to my Lou

Swing, swing, swing your arms.
Swing, swing, swing your arms.
Swing your arms, my darling.

(Also use "clap your hands", "stomp your feet", "pat your head", etc.)

Instead of the Hokey Pokey at Christmas, i have used the Reindeer Pokey

You put your antlers in, you put your antlers out.
You put your antlers in and shake them all about.
You do the Reindeer Pokey and turn yourself around.
That's what it's all about.

Continue with:
You put your hooves in...
You put your red nose in...
You put your fluffy tail in...
You put your reindeer body in..

Hahahahah We actually got Clare in one!! I know the question has been answered Clare, but maybe we should make this a two way street. You come up with Queens Englishisms and we'll come up with Americanisms!!

Anybody have a good one??

What's a sweeper?

This one had my roommates from Rhode Island and Washington totally confused, when I just moved into my apartment and my Mom said she bought a sweeper.

Thanks... that totally makes sense now... I like to make up words sometimes, and Leighanna always says, "Daddy your not doing it right"..

Tom I just have to ask "are you a stay at home dad?" My brother is and he absolutely LOVES it. His kids think he is the coolest dad because he gets to be at home with them. I think it's an awesome thing. It just seems like you are on line with us during work hours, so I had to ask. Sorry if it's too personal, and if you don't want to talk about it you can just ignore me. I won't be hurt!

Claire,
That was the thing that DH and I noticed when visiting London and Dublin, Ireland. All trucks seemed smaller. Also no big cars. Unless it was someone from the states who got stationed over there and brought their car over with them. Even if a truck had two trailers on it, each was shorter in length. Also, it was weird, messengers on small motorcycles would keep going between cars even in stopped traffic. :earseek:

Thanks. How much is TGM and how far in advance can I order it? I already know from Denise's report that we want to do MVMCP. So I have that much figured out. Does he give advice on how to pick a hotel? I want the GF, Denise's report had me sold on that 1, but DH likes the look from pics of the WL and of course the kids like the AKL just from hearing about it on TV. My parents are looking at mods. and sister is not sure between values and mods based on budget. :confused3
I think it is around 20-25 dollars, sometimes he has a discount code for a few dollars off. I got it for 17 and change. We did MVMCP too. Not so much advice on picking hotels, more like a lot of info and then you decide. He also has a forum like this too attached to his site. We stayed at the WL last December. Some people don't like it because it is rather dark, not sunny and bright like you want Florida to be. I chose it because of that...it was Christmas, so I wanted to have a Christmas feel, all warm and cozy. The lobby there is magnificent. AKL is set up very much the same way, lobby-wise. The only real difference is the animals. And WL is a boat ride away from MK. Any other destination you need to take a bus. Or you can boat to MK and then take monorail. AKL is all bus. If you want more detailed info, just PM me.

DH just called on the way home from work. He's arranged for a sitter for the kids, and is taking me out to dinner and to see King Kong. I'm excited. An actual date with my hubby! I love those evenings. I don't even care that dinner will be pretty lame for me. Oh well, it's all about being with hubby and enjoying time together, right? We haven't been on a date for a long time. We always end up taking the kids with us. This will really be a treat!

Guess I'd better go get ready! Talk to you all tomorrow.
