I love signing (not the paper I staple to my girls :rotfl2: ) it has been so very helpful. I want the girls to take a class with me so we can continue to use it.

Speaking of staples, I went to use the stapler and it was empty, made me think of you and your girls...

BTW- I know both of your secrect project too...

Well as a former yearbook advisor, I could tell you some names! :teeth:

I have also been emotionally scarred by "bad" students with good names. :teeth:

Why am I still up?!! I know Kevin left the lights on for me, because I told him I'd "be right up" when he went upstairs. His comment was, "See you when I get home from work." :rotfl:

Hi y'all!

Thought I'd come in and see what's shaking since I'm awake now.I was all sleepy, watched some TV, got up to go to the bathroom and my Mother was dressed...I had gotten her in her pjs about 8pm tonight so I wouldn't have the hassle that I have EVERY night of the world around 9pm with her to get them and her depends on. :sad2: siiiiiigh....so I got her to get her pjs back on and I gave her some Tylenol PM..yeah I wanted her asleep...OY! :guilty:

So I've read a few pages.Have comments when I was reading but didn't have another window open to write them as I went along. :confused3 My brain is mush.I am so worn out from dealing with her.I'm getting in touch with Medicare this week and see what sort of help I can get. It's wearing me out. Some days I feel like I can't put one foot in front of another.

I think I was reading what duckyfor donald said about putting it in God's hands and that's where I am ...about a month ago I found a broadcast of Joel Osteen on a Sun night on ABC Family.http://www.joelosteen.com/site/PageServer He has done me so much good.He is SO uplifting!! I get a daily prayer from him.I don't know how I'd feel if I didn't have the hope I get from these prayers.

Anyway yesterday's message said to write down at least 10 things that you are thankful for every day.The DDA is on my list. I sit here and read everyone's stories, problems, advice, kindness and silliness and I'm so happy that we have all found one another. :grouphug:

I don't always comment on everyone's post but each one means something to me.I want each and everyone of you to know that YOU make this place the WONDERFUL thing it has become and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

Oh wow...I really need some sleep!

Y'all are in my thoughts and special PD and prayers for all that need it. :wizard:

Night!

I'd say "I'm sorry" but I'm really not! I think that books are one addiction that shouldn't be stifled! Seriously, I just spent about 60 dollars on books for my kids for the summer. Of course, I'll read them first. DH just shakes his head. I tell him it could be worse; I could be buying jewelry! :lmao:

::yes:: I agree wholeheartedly! I love books... only thing is I buy them quicker than I can read them! They sell the bestsellers half listed price at the supermarket but stock changes fortnightly so you have buy them when you see them... I think I may have about 65 unread books... I always tell DH that he spends the same amount on chocloate and ice cream each week and these are my "treats"

Good morning Clare. I really must be off to bed now as you are up and I have to be to work to early. Hopefully I can sleep.

I was just skimming posts. About body image, Brantley-Kate who weighs a whole whopping 42 pounds/46.5 inches tall, is thin as a rail (I'd say skinny), and is worried about being fat (turns 6 in June). She'll ask me,"if I eat this will I get fat?" We talk about positive body image, but I already see signs in her that make me very wary of eating disorders with her in the future. So sad that our society starts this at such a young age.

Tell BK she is gorgeous as she is and does not need to worry :wizard:

The whole body image thing is just horrid - you should be taught to like who you are for what you are not what you look like.

My friend at work (29) suffered from anorexia as a kid quite seriously - she now runs on a treadmill to stay trim and is a slim UK 10 (US6?) - she looks great but if she loses any weight she will look ill. One day I saw her eating some bread and lettuce for lunch, her boyfriend (39) makes lunch so I jokingly asked if he'd forgotten to put the filling in... she told me that her DB had told her she was getting fat and needed to diet  Needless to say I went mental! She asked him how much she should lose and he said well what do you weigh? Apparently she doesn't know what her weight is as she says if she weighs herself she'll start going back to her old ways, so she just goes by how her clothes fit. He told her half a stone (sorry 7 pounds!) should do it!!!! Seriously she would dissapear if she lost that much weight!!

Anyway long story - but it really got to me at the time and still bugs me now - he knows about the anorexia and I just think that is a really dangerous situation to put her in, especially as she could actually put on a few pounds and look more healthy.

Rant over... please return to your scheduled programming :teeth:

My kids are voracious readers already (looking through books or me reading to them). They must have 500 books and get them as presents for all holidays. Their fave place to go is the library. We go each week and never leave with less than 30 new books to read. And in a weeks time we've gone through them all. In fact, they like books so much that their 4th b'day was at a private children's book store. We tend to give books for b'day presents to their friends and always give books as party favors at their parties. I love to read too (I'm totally engrossed in The Davinci Code so if I'm not around much it's cause I'm reading!). John and I sat with the kids in the NICU and read for hours (I read them 2 entire John Grisham novels out loud- the nurses loved it!) and John read them the Wall Street Journal. Guess we started them early!

Love the Davinci code :thumbsup2 Can't wait to see the film to see how well they did it...

Well you were achatty bunch last night and I'm about 20 pages behind... I'm off to work now so I'll catch up later - hope everyone has a Fantasmically Disney Day :wizard: :cheer2:

Good for you, June!!! You're never too old to develop a love of reading. I think I inherited it from my Dad! He's always got his nose in a book. I love discussing books I've read with him! He's got great insights!

We don't have a library in our town, and the closest one is 10 miles away. The bad thing is that if you aren't a resident of that town, it costs 70 dollars for a one year library card. Yikes! DH works in Salt Lake and they have a county wide system. You can check out books from any library in the county. So, we forked out 85 bucks for 2 library cards, and spend one day each week at a Salt Lake library! So far it's worked really well for us! It's money well spent as there are over 2 dozen libraries to choose from in Salt Lake County. The library is my friend!

$70! WOW! We don't have a library close by in the system that our town falls into. There are several in the next county that are fairly close. We pay a $25/year fee for the whole family for the "4 County Library System." This allows us use of any of the libraries in that system. Plus, you can request a book on-line from any of the libraries to be sent to the one closest to you. I've always thought that it was a real bargain, but now even more so. Of course, our libraries are really struggling here and the threat of closure seems to always exist. I wouldn't mind a higher fee, but the taxpayers keep voting down a raise in taxes to help support the libraries.

DDA Family -- you so rock! Thank you so much for the words of encouragement and PD sent Andrew's way. Andrew had another good game. He was the only one that hit the ball, although they threw him out at first. He walked once, and had no errors on defense. They lost 9 - 5, but overall it was a huge success and another step forward in his self-confidence.

I asked him what he'd like to say to you all. It seems like he has been listening to me. My advice to him before each game is to try his hardest and to have a good time. This is what he said to say:

"Thank you for supporting me. We lost, but we tried our best."

It's not an eloquent speech, but for a child with an expressive disorder, I think it's pretty perfect!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for thinking of him and sending good thoughts for an esteem-building game.

:grouphug: :wizard: For more great games!

Thanks to all for the warm welcomes. Browsing through this thread my heart goes out to each of you with little ones who are ill. I know the feeling all too well, my oldest daughter was hospitalized twice before she was six weeks old, being 19 with a jerk for a husband (now ex but that's another story) it was a horrible thing to go through. We spent the better part of her first year at the doctor's it seemed like until they finally diagnosed her and did surgery at 13 months, thankfully the surgery worked and she hasn't had any problems since.

She is now 25 and just received her Bachelor's in education, it has been a long hard struggle for her. She went to her first two years of college right after high school, then in her Junior year my mom took ill and it pretty well tore the family up. She passed away from Breast Cancer, my daughter ended up failing all her classes and became a single mom. After my grandson was born she decided it was time to pull herself together and went back to school.
Now working full time and raising a baby it took her longer to finish. School starts here in August and she was starting her student teaching and had only one class to take and she would be done. Two weeks after school started along came Katrina, she was so proud of the way she had decorated her classroom and had spent hours and hours working on it. Her instructor had not even been there to see it yet. Here's a picture of the school entrance afterwards, the light at the end of the hall is there because the walls are not.
Here classroom only had one wall left.

school.jpg

Her college didn't fair any better as it was right on the beach. Well the college was a branch of another school in a town north of here so her records were safe, they were able to finish there classes in a local high school at night, and the best part of all the teacher she was student teaching for had taken photos of the room and put together an album for her to take to her instructor. They shared classrooms with the high school for a couple of months until their trailors were set up for classes.

Fast forward to now, since her college was a Baptist college and only a branch of the bigger one they always had their graduation ceremony in the local Baptist church, one look at the picture below explains why they can't have it there.

church1.jpg

So they were invited to attend the main colleges graduation and be recognized, and only be able to invite a limited number of people.

After all that she has been through that just wasn't good enough for me, so I'm planning a reception for her to give everyone a chance to congratulate her. Any decorating ideas will be gladly accepted, I was thinking about doing the school motif with apples, books, etc. If anyone has any fav recipes for
appetizers I would love some new ideas.

Sorry to go on and on,
Hope you all have a good night.

P.S. J&N's mom, that's the reason for the Congratulations Tara, the Disney trip is our graduation gift to her.

CONGRATULATIONS, Tara! Thanks for sharing your story.

Since you guys have great advice can you help me with a dilemma.

My SIL finally found out 100% that she will be stationed in England starting in July. So my MIL is planning on visiting her next summer and has asked Emma to go with her. Emma of course has said Yes, I want to go! I am adamant that Emma not go with just my MIL. I think it is too far for her to be away from home at a young age. I have no doubt Emma wants to go but once she gets over there she will for sure want to come home and get very upset. My MIL is not the most warm person in the world. Shows no emotion other than being stubborn. Oh I lied, the dogs, her 2 and our 2 get more attention/affection then any person in the family. She is also dealing with medical issues from a almost life threathening sinus infection years ago, she is on a ton of medication and it affects her and if you were around her you would know what I mean.

So I know this is a year away but I know it will be brought up everytime we see each other. Am I crazy to say no? I also want to take the girls over to Europe as a family. We are planning a trip in 2/3 years when Molly is older, to visit Eric's relatives in Germany and if his sister is still in England then I would force myself to visit her for a day or so. Eric thinks she should go, a great oppurtunity and all. I worry about her emotional state, not mentioning that is something were to happen, we just do not have the kind of $$ to pick up and fly to England on no notice.

So any and all opinions/view points are welcome.

That is a very tough one. I have a ds who will be 7 next week. I can't even begin to imagine putting him on a plane to another country with my MIL (and I love my MIL). I think I'd be on the side of waiting the 2-3 years for the family trip. It is a wonderful opportunity, though.

I didn't realize how lucky I am to have a library I don't have to pay to go to and can go to any in the county. I am off to work have a great day everyone. :)
