Morning everyone!!

Boy that was an interesting night last night! Thanks for the early morning laughs!

I called off yesterday with a MAJOR head cold...fever, coughing, sore throat, aches...late last night the it seems the fever finally broke. I still have coughing, but hoping cough drops will help. I'm SO TIRED of hot tea. That's all I could handle yesterday. I'm attempting a few sips of coffee right now (and it doesn't taste good), and maybe some toast. So I'm gonna attempt to get ready for work.
:wizard: I hope you feel better soon.

Good for you Deb! Stick to your guns & don't cave in :thumbsup2 Sounds like some folks might get a little hungary, guess they will listen next time ;)

Thanks for everyone's thoughts. I ended up sending an email this morning going over the planned schedule of events and including a list of what has been volunteered. I gave a whole speech last night on how hard I've worked for donations etc and that I wanted each family to sign up for 2 items, obviously they don't care. So I'm sticking to my guns. My family will eat and I will not make additional items just to get us by. The rest of the weekend will be awesome as I have taken care of all the details to to he ll with them all. I'm done stressing and moving on. I sent the email out at around 9 AM, it is now 2:30 PM and no one has responded. If they don't care why should I?

Deb

Wow I would be proud too! Congratulations :cheer2:

Hi all! I just wanted to share where I went this morning, otherwise known as a very proud aunt moment

My nephew is a pitcher for his high school team and just signed to play college baseball (on scholarship) at McNeese State University here in Louisiana. His signing was at the school this morning. He will play next year as a Freshman and his coach told him he thought he'd be there 3 years then be high enough in the draft to go pro. That's a long way away and anything could happen between now and then, but I'm so proud of and excited for him. He's a great kid!!

So I was up and read along for most of the posting party last night, but I was just so frustrated with real life that I didn't feel like posting. As many of you know I am heavy involved with our local cub scouts program. Well last night was our monthly pack meeting which I was asked to run as the Cub Master had to work. I literally spent all day organizing the awards, putting together materials that needed to be covered and working out the craft projects for the evening. This on top of continuing to plan for our Pack camping trip next weekend. I have put so many hours into writing letters to businesses to get donations, follow up calls, putting together events at the campground and all the little details that needed to be worked out. Now the rest of the Pack will never have any idea how much I have done to make this camping trip special for the kids. So back to my point. The meeting was at 6 PM. At about 5 I get an email from a Parent of one of the boys in my den that he will not be coming as she is behind in Real Life (and who isn't?) Then another Den leader calls to say that he is stuck at work and could I hand out the awards for his Den too. Somehow we actually get a decent turn out and the kids are attentive. So I tell them about all the upcoming events and all the plans and donations that I've gotten. I had made up a sign up sheet for the rest of the items that we would need as a Pack to pull off the Group Dinner (40-50 people) and misc supplies like wood for the campfire. I had hoped that each family would sign up for 2 things and that the people with campers would offer do make the hot/cold dishes as they have the space and equipment to do so. Man was I wrong. This is what They signed up for:
Family 1 Seafood Lasagna (they have a camper)
Family 2 Taco Salad (they are tenting, how are they planning to heat this?)
Family 3 Mac Salad and wood (camper and they were actually paying attention :cheer2: )
Family 4 Plastic ware (tent)
Family 5 dessert plates (tent)
Family 6 watermelon and chips (large camper, *** can't they consider the tenters for this?)
Family 7 dessert (tent)
Family 8 dessert (tent they have 2 boys that are scouts)

Already on the sheet was what Chris and I were bringing which is coffee and fixins, 5 Gallons of orange Powerade and hot chocolate mix. My mother is bringing Lasagna and a blueberry dessert. I also have to pick up and bring all of the donations which include all the hamburger, hotdogs and buns as well as all the event prizes.

I don't know how I should feel or what I should do about this. We are only having one meal together because we have a lot of events planned throughout the weekend and Group meals take much longer than family style meals. I'm thinking that we don't have enough food for the group meal and certainly not much variety. With the amout of wood that was offered we should be able to have a fire for a few minutes one night :confused3 I'm not sure why we should have to do everything and bring everything. I told Chris after the meeting last night that I am just going to send out an email that lists what we have and see if anyone volunteers for anything else. If not my camper is fully supplied so my family will be fine and the rest can worry about themselves. I know that this is a long rant, but my panties are really in a bunch about this. After last year I had decided not to plan it again, but the Pack had so much fun that they asked me to do it again and being such a pushover I said yes.

On top of that Nick and Chris have a different Boy Scout overnight campout this weekend and I have to get them ready for that too.

Well, I'm off to the store to get the rest of the supplies for this weekend as it is supposed to rain on Saturday so they need waterproof boots and rain suits.

Deb
I am not sure how I would deal with this. It looks like people don't understand what it takes volunteer wise to pull this off. I hope everything looks better after you send out the second request for sign ups.

We will go sometime from the last two weeks of August through October as we need to work around the AP blackout dates for our friends. If you decide to go at the end of August, let me know and maybe we can work something out. My AP doesn't expire until Christmas so I just need to get there by then. We will also probably go to the parks on Mon and/or Tues. Part will also depend on the show schedules and whether I can hit Fantasmic and Remember. I would SO love to see that at least one more time. It was cancelled when we were there at Christmas because it was SO foggy.
We were there Dec. 17-23 and waited 3 nights to catch it cause it got cancelled twice for wind. Funny thing was the balloon they released barely moved. Everyone around us was irate but while they were all standing around grumbling we booked it over to Rivers of America and found great spots for the second Fantasmic show. :teeth: I have to say we shelled out the money in summer for balcony seats but our spot on the river was much better and free. Our AP's expire Aug. 21 so we'll probably go the week before they expire. I do know I would like to also catch the Alladin show we missed at DCA. I have heard others rave about it.

Oh Deb, I understand what you are talking about. Sometimes I think “Didn’t you learn the last time lady”? I can’t tell you ho many times I have subjected myself to stress like yours. We are just trying to be good people, but for Pete sake, get real people and help.

I wish I could help you more, but all I can say is when you email these folks give them a choice of what to bring, do not give them an out, do not depend on them to volunteer. Try something like this.

Our camp out is coming soon and to make this an outstanding trip, the group dinner needs you to bring _______. I know the scouts will have a fabulous time and I can’t wait to see their faces as they enjoy the weekend and all the events.

I know I don’t write well, but tell them what to bring and you will get only a few who wont play nice and help.

Did I ramble? I hope it helped some. Best of luck.
That's what my son's preschool teacher does now for parties. She used to send out a sheet with what was needed and let people sign up. But, too many would want to sign up for the easy things like plates or cups. Instead of the treat bags or food. Now she just sends out a list with everyone's name and stating what they're to bring.

HEY DEB -

I think you should make it mandatory that they bring food:

I would send out an email like this:

Dear Lazy Butts

I need exact numbers for people who plan on participating in the group POTLUCK dinner. If you plan on participating, I need to know how many people will be eating and what you plan on bringing. I need each family to bring at least one dish and in addition either wood, .... or .....

Thank you to those who signed up at the meeting. If I do not hear from you by (pick a date 3 days before) I will assume you have decided not to participate in the POTLUCK dinner and will provide your own food for that evening.

Working my butt off for you
Deb

Clearly you might want to do a few edits ;)
and then 5 days before send out a reminder
and then on the deadline day send out a thank you with a head count
why would she need to edit :rotfl2:

They told me yesterday that the sedative would make Nick very moody and irritable today -

um- that would be the UNDERSTATEMENT of the year!

I have never seen him so mean and cranky!
How long did they say it would last? :wizard: I hope it blows over quickly.

Well I just purchased half of our plane tickets, al least I know we will get there lol Now I just have to wait for Airtran to have our return date on sale. I tried getting 3 seats at the sale price, but they came up at a higher price :sad2: So I ended up getting 2 seats for $89 & 1 for $119  Guess that is what I get for waiting till the last day of the sale. I am sure they will go on sale again, but I did not want to take any chances. Oh well it's done & we are definetly going :Pinkbounc
:cheer2: Congratulations. I am still looking for our airfare :sad2: Can't find a decent price yet.

Nick is konked out - which is a very good thing

he was very restless last night but only woke up once crying and holding his head - but he never vocalized that he had a headache - so maybe it wasn't too bad - he has not said anything about a headache today :thumbsup2

but he has given me one!!! I can't begin to tell you how crabby he was - Julia came downstairs and he yelled at her to go away - usually in the morning the hug on each other - obviously then she got upset and the day went downhill from there - they have fought over EVERYTHING - part of me wanted to tell her just to give in to him on everything but how fair is that to her - she doesn't understand what is going on and I don't want him to see that screaming got him his way even if he really can't help it

so he screamed - she screamed - I screamed - and so went our morning -

My week has caught up to me and I was so happy to drop her off at school and then he fell asleep on the way home - so I am just listening to the calm

I am praying when he wakes up from his nap he will feel a little better!!!

Congrats to your nephew.

Absolutely do NOT bring anything more. Send an e-mail to everyone. Let them know your concerns. List everything that is being brought & by who. If they don't sign up for more then your family is set (in your camper) and the rest can just suffer. You are doing more than enough!!!!!!!

Good morning all early DDAers. Hope you enjoy them laughing at me again. Have a good day!
Oh, I did!!! It was even fun reading it a day later. ;)

Didn't seem to promising...I have had quite a few "interesting" people lately...they want to buy single family homes...and then rent out the basement. Which isn't even legal (so I have to just let it go in one ear & out the other) But this is a gorgeous single family home...seems a shame. But, I guess I should just focus on getting it sold! :teeth:
