Well, ladies, as fun as this is, I really have to go to bed! I'm going to have to finish up my chapters tomorrow morning.

I'll check in with you all in the morning. Thanks for the laughs! I really needed them!

I am with you, except I need to pay a few bills on line first. Then I am off to dream about turtles and.........

I will be friends with you when your children get less sleep.

If I staple a sign to Alyssa when she wakes up (between 8:30 and 9 a.m.) will you speak to me again? :rotfl:

And, don't worry, Matthew is already keeping me up all night with hiccups and flips!

Amy :)

It's bedtime for me too. Thanks for the laughs tonight!

Good morning early risers!
Amy :)

Clare you are always doing something interesting to your house. If DH had his way we would always be remodeling something in this place. I don’t plan to stay here forever (this house) so I don’t want to put all we have into it. I do plan to have a house that I don’t have to see my neighbor walking past their window in their birthday suit, or be able to pass a cup of sugar through the window. (ok, it’s not that bad, but it sure feels like it)
:rotfl2: I was talking about housework - hardly interesting!

But we have just finished remodelling the house - well this time last year the building work was finished - this summer we have a lot of decorating to do.

We live in a 100 year old house that had tiny rooms so we knocked out every single wall and ceiling ( rather scary standing in the lounge and seeing the roof! Then we put new walls and ceilings back to make new rooms. Big job and extremely stressful both mentally and physically.

This summer we need to do the garden, tile the bathroom and do some painting and then it's all finished - and we're not moving...ever!!

I've just taken up with FLYLady to try and get me into a routine with housework :teeth:

Here are a few pictures of the birthday girl.

She's beautiful - and I love the table and chairs :)

Sounds like a great thing to be involved in - good for you for spreading the pixie dust :wizard:

Thank you for asking!

The Junior League of Dallas is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.

Through funding and volunteer hours (each member volunteers 60 hours each year), the JLD supports community agencies in several different areas:
ARTS AND CULTURAL ENRICHMENT
EDUCATION
FAMILY PRESERVATION
HEALTH
POVERTY INTERVENTION
VIOLENCE INTERVENTION

The JLD is part of a larger Junior League association worldwide. It was originally started in the early 1900s by several New York debutantes who wanted to do more with their time than give teas and dances. The girls saw a flood of immigrants coming into NY's lower east side who needed help: the immigrant women needed to learn English, they needed childcare while they were working, their children needed to learn to speak and read English, they all needed healthcare desperately. So the debs started Junior League to help with these types of community needs and more.

Eleanor Roosevelt was a member of the League. Alone, she would go into the most crime-ridden neighborhoods in NY's lower east side. This was unheard of for a young woman in her socio-economic class, and very unsafe. I think the story goes that her father sent a bodyguard with her, but she made him walk many feet behind her and wouldn't let him interfere with her work in the community.

Last year I volunteered at the Dallas Museum of Art, where on Saturdays and Sundays I did art projects with children or sat in a gallery and explained a work of art to the families that came through. This year, I'm on Grants for Innovative Teaching, meaning teachers apply for grants for projects the district cannot otherwise fund. I had 3 school grants I was tracking this year, so went to visit them on Thursday.

... which is how I think I got a sinus infection (soon to be lung infection, knowing my body). I'm not used to little kid germs, and there was a lot of coughing and sneezing going on around me. But reading and playing with the kids was fun and worth it!

As Marci said, Junior League is a big deal in Dallas. Dallas is the largest League in the country with 5,000+ members, with Atlanta's League close behind. Junior League is a tradition in the South. Many women members have grandmothers, aunts, sisters, mothers, etc who are in the League as well. They grow up around the League and join themselves when they are old enough (college age).

To quote a friend of mine's 10 yo daughter the other day, she asked, "Do I have to join the Junior League when I grow up?" "No," said my friend. "But you expect me to," said the little girl. "Well, yes" said the mom. And the little girl was okay with that.

I'm from California, where the League is active, but not as big a deal. My mom wasn't in the League, but I grew up with her volunteering here and there all the time. I joined the League in NY to get involved in the community and to make friends. Then I transfered to JLD when I moved to Dallas. I"ll remain active until I become a "sustainer," which means when I retire from Junior League, usually in your early 40s.

Jennifer

Well seems like you all had a posting party last night and I'm back about 20 pages - off to get ready for work now so I'll catch up later.

Have a Fantasmically Disney Day y'all!

I see that I am the first one up this morning.

Good morning everyone. Let me try to catch up.

Kate - Regarding Nick, does he complain about his head hurting any other time of the day, or just at night?

Terry - congrats on your 1000 posts.

Jennifer - I'm sorry the scavenger hunt didn't go as planned. Men can be such party poopers! But I'm glad that it is all behind you and now you both can look forward to the trip.

Even with the pd, Nicholas' team still lost their game, 3-2. Those poor kids can't catch a break, and they are playing their little hearts out. Oh well, we'll try again on Saturday. They would be so thrilled if they got a win.

Morning DDA!

Denise - :grouphug: for good wishes with Rees's test results!

Kate - :grouphug: for Nick and that he feels better soon!

Cinder, not sure if you know about this link, or if they are even still doing it. They were sending out an email coupon for buy one get one free sundaes, but you have to say yes that you live within 50 miles of a Ghiradelli, also don't fill it out until you are almost ready to leave, as the coupon expires 30 days after it is sent.

I am sitting here trying not to cry or drive myself crazy

I really thought Nick was better - he wasn't himself today but certainly better and I knew that since he had a fever of 102 or higher for 4 days - he wouldn't be up to par yet -

he cried when we went to get Julia from school and really would pick resting over anything else

tonight he seemed to really perk up and was actually driving me crazy at bedtime - I was so happy - he seemed more like himself -

and then all of a sudden he grabbed his nose and said not again - my head hurts mommy -

I am so frustrated - what could it be - I talked to my BIL who is a doctor and he said that even though his sinuses were clear of fluid - it doesn't mean they weren't inflamed and I should give it a few more days before I panic and go to the doctor again

I just hate that he is in pain and I wish I knew what to do for him

I just had to mention to Amy that the thread had been so quiet lately :rolleyes1

Can't wait to read what y'all have been up to.
