The DDA Trouble Free Zone Part 6

Just a quick update, Ty, the little boy I babysit, came home from the hospital yesterday on mega doses of antibiotics. He has a staph infection but is home and doing well. Thanks for the and prayers

Now I need some for Molly. We have been out all day, Emma's soccer game, birthday party and then to my inlaws for dinner. Molly was fine all day, but when I put her in her carseat to come home she screamed bloody murder. Didn't think too much of it as she is extremely tired and just thought she was past her limit. Then when I put her in her pj's she screamed again, I was trying to put her arm in her sleeve. So I think she may have hurt her arm. She was in a moon bounce at the birthday party. I don't think she broke it as she is moving it but only slightly. We are watching Dumbo, her absolute favorite, until we leave for her dr's appt at 9pm.

Denise, I completely understand the want for him to reflux. It is so much easier to know what you are dealing with then the unknown.

Oh no, I hope Molly is okay. It sounds like my niece's bed jumping incident at 3yo. Hers ended up with snall fractresm but idn't bother her much and a short term cast had her up and going quickly.

I think I may have broken my pinky finger this afternoon! I tripped and fall into a chair but hit my finger on the chair's arm and it went back all the way. I can move it, but it hurts a lot. I hate to have an x-ray because I don't want to have a cast or that sort of things!! I have 3 kids to take care of!! If I'm being able to move it, do you think it's broken?

I'd try a finger splint for a few days. You can probably get one at a local pharmacy or Target. You could also tape it to the neighboring finger. That's probably what a doc would do anyway. that you are feeling better soon.

This afternoon Nick spiked a bad fever again - it went up to 103.6 rectally - that obviously freaked me out a bit - 104.5 is where my doctor tells you to go to the hospital

luckily the medicine dropped the fever and he seemed much better

then tonight I put him to bed and he came running out and holding his head and screaming bloody murder - it hurts, it hurts OWWWWWW - he calmed down after a few minutes - the same thing happened last night - I am guessing he has a sinus infection and when he lays down it hurts and then once he stands up it relieves the pressure

I feel so bad for him and I feel so helpless - I might take him to urgent care tomorrow if I don't see drastic improvement

I love the Cracker Barrel. They don't have one out here but I always go when we go back to IA to visit family. Have a fun me week-end you deserve it.

Oh man, I missed a Cracker Barrel reference?!? I LOVE Cracker Barrel. Our closest one is about 40 minutes away, but not accessible since we don't have a car. I'm counting the days until my mom and dad come to visit in a month. I've already claimes an early trip visit to Cracker Barrel for a belated birthday meal! I'm also contemplating renting a car for my birthday weekend so that we can do soemthing fun and, of course, hit Cracker Barrel.

Denise I was thinking about you and Rees as I couldn't sleep last night. Maybe it's all the prayers for Rees maybe he won't need surgery this time. I wanted to let you know that your example as a mom has been a great inspiration and encouragement to me. I had struggled for so long with God about DS Zachary and not wanting him to have problems that I forgot to recognize all his gifts to Zachary. Seeing the grace and strength you show in dealing with the problems that crop up with Rees has been an eyeopener. Zachary doesn't have as many struggles to go through as Rees and yet I have not handled his problems as positively and gracefully as you have Rees. You are an amazing person and wonderful mom. May God's blessings overflow for your family.
God knows your needs and wishes for Rees this week-end so I'll just pray for that.

Wow. That is just so sweet of you to say, that I am at a loss of words. I try very hard to always see the wonder and amazement that is my Rees, but it is not easy to do at times. No parent of a special needs child can every truly understand why their child is chosen by God for these issues, but at at the same time be blessed by God with many other wonderful talents.

Believe me, I don't always handle it well. What nobody sees, including my DH, is me in the shower late at night crying, blaming God, asking why, screaming my head off, being so mad I could just go crazy. After I let it out, I try to remember how blessed I am to even have Rees, remember how much joy and love he brings to me each and every day, and leave the rest to God. Do I wish that Rees had an easier time? Of course. Do I have a difficult time when a new problem arises? You bet your life I do. Do I get mad that he has problems when other kids don't? Darn right! Do I deny some of his diagnosis at first because it is too much to bear. Absolutely. But this is the way God made him, and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

I'm glad that I have helped you in some small way. It is a long and often painful road having a child with special needs, but it is also the most amazing and rewarding journey you will ever take. Just take one day at a time. The single best piece of advice anyone ever gave me concerning Rees was my mom. The day we found out he had severe issues was at his well child check up for his 3rd b'day. My family was there when the doctor told us. John and I were completely devastated, and I couldn't quit crying. My mom looked at me and said, "just remember he is the EXACT same child right now with this diagnosis that he was this morning without it. Nothing else has changed except now you know what you are dealing with and can get help." My mom is a very wise woman.

Kate, do you have any decongestant (Triaminic, Dimetapp) for Nick? Give him some Ibuprofen too. Do you have a humidifier to put in his room? I'd definitely take him back tomorrow. Sounds like he needs some antibiotic.

We are home from Molly's dr appt. I can't believe that we are home within an hour of us leaving to get there. It is always a 2 or 3 hour ordeal. Anyway, apparently Molly dislocated her elbow but it popped back into place by itself. They said that it is common for kids her age. Told us to give her motrin and just be careful with her arm. What had me so freaked out about her arm is that last year we had a nutcase, I am being very, very polite here, of a neighbor who decided to call Social Services on me and my DH for child neglect in an attempt to get back at any one of her neighbors that she could. SS came in for a home visit and pretty much laughed at the fact that they were even in my home. She is a drug addict and abused her 3 children and all other sorts of horrors, I could go on and on about how this woman messed with so many families on our street for a long period of time but it's not worth it. Thankfully, her kids were finally taken away from her. But after having Social Services come into my home and question us, I am so leary about anything like this happening. I know we did nothing wrong but it is very unnerving. Sorry for rambling but I had to get that off my chest.

I'm so glad it is no worse than a dislocated elbow! I know how painful that can be, though. When Katie was 2 DH was swinging her around on his arm, and dislocated her elbow. It was awful! Unfortunately, hers did not pop in by itself, the doctor had to do that. I think it was the stress of that happening, that started me into labor with Jacob; he was born the next day (3 weeks early).

Poor Nick! I hope that he kicks all of the fevers and ouchies soon! Not an easy thing for anyone, let alone a 2yo.

I gave him some claritin and he is sleeping pretty soundly - I did prop him up -
