The DDA Trouble Free Zone Part 31

We've been twice, and to MNSSHP twice too. I think I like MVMCP better. I just enjoy the festiveness (is that a word) of the season.

I'm with you, Tammi. I absolutely love Christmas, and the decorations and atmosphere of the MK that time of year just can't be beat. (Although I thought they did "kick it up a notch" this year with the Halloween/fall decorations.) I also think there are more special shows, so I feel like I get more of my money's worth. And who doesn't love snow on Main Street?!

The pics of the pow wow were very cool!

My mom called last night an announced that she is coming to town for Thanksgiving.

I hope you guys are able to see one another, and that it's stress-free, Elizabeth. It does make me sad for your DS that your mother doesn't seem interested. Maybe this might be the year that she sees what she's missing out on with him!

On my "to do" list was getting my ornament in the mail today (along with other packages). Unfortunately, I just missed getting to the post office before it closed. But, they'll be on their way Monday!

Chuck is right. You should really go to WDW in December. It was so much FUN last year! Don't you remember? And I have a new cell phone that actually holds a charge so if you are there Dec. 12-16 we could say hello! Jennifer is going. Tammi is going. Lindsay is going. Janet is going. Stephanie is going. See? Don't you feel left out?

okay i think I am going to take some benadryl and go to bed. I have been itching all over my face, chest and shoulders off and on for the past week. Today the itching has been constant. The itching was just my jaw line on my face but now its my whole face. I have not used anything new so not sure what is causing it.

It is a weird feeling for me this year. I have very little Christmas shopping to do, since we're only buying for our parents this year - the siblings and their kiddos get their Disney accomodations, so that's taken care of! The mall was packed today when I was there, and I almost felt a little left out not already joining in the fray. Jonathan and I aren't sure if we'll be exchanging gifts, either - if we do, it will be capped at a pretty low amount, since we will have just had quite a blow-out in early December at the World!

I've bought one thing for my Dad, but that's it! I'm hoping inspiration strikes once we get back from Florida for the rest of them.

Hope the Benadryl helps. I think I will head to bed too. I don't want to waste that extra hour I get tonight by staying up and hour later than I usually would.

I see this extra hour as one more hour to see what I can get done on my "to do" list (but somehow, I don't remember "keeping up with the DDA" as being on there ).

For what?? Can't take it with you. And since Disney just sent another email with December discounts, they must have a few rooms to fill. I say go for it.

And you all know me so well. I'm going to be back at Disney for next years F&W.

Update on Rees' CarePage:

Hi, everyone. Rees is doing ok, but he's not eating much or drinking so he's still on the IV. If they can't get him to pick up the pace tomorrow, we may have to stay another day. He is now on scheduled doses of pain meds whether he asks or not as he never told us and then the pain would be immense. He played Playhouse Disney on the computer all afternoon, Davis and Brantley-Kate came to visit with John's parents, and Penny, his PT he adores, stopped in too. I think he is feeling better tonight, but he crashed hard as soon as John left. He is on a very special pureed/soft diet for the next 2 weeks (or longer) which will be a challenge. I am trying to research for ideas of things to feed him that wouldn't be gross pureed or blended down.

Thanks for the continued prayers. We're slowly but surely making progress!

Dinner was good! And our friends played it off just like I asked. They talked about going to MVMCP, asked what the weather was like when we went last year, never once acted like DS was going to be there. It was great!

They said Spain was beautiful and they had great weather, but the people were very rude. One of my friends is from Puerto Rico so he is fluent in Spanish, but apparently that didn't help! They met up with another friend of theirs who is from the UK, but he lives in Germany. He might be fluent in Spanish too, because he is a teacher. They had a terrible time getting service in the restaurants, and they had a hard time at the airport, too. They asked someone (an employee) where they needed to go to check in for their flight (the taxis were striking so they had to take the train and they were late). The guy said "Not here." Which made me laugh when they told the stoary but if an airline employee said that to me I would be furious. They ended up missing that flight, they had to pay a huge chunk of money to get on another flight, not a good situation all around.

Bernadette - I am impressed that you got Joe's hat finished!

Lindsay - DS makes a point to never be impressed by anything. I don't know if he will be impressed by being picked up from school and taken to WDW to meet up with his favorite uncles or not. I guess we'll see in 39 days!
I'm glad your nieces are excited! You all will have so much fun!

I have not been to Spain, but I have heard the same "review", unfortunately. And as for being fluent, I don't know that it helps much. The spanish of Central and South America is quite different than the spanish of Spain... so if someone is going to be rude to a "foreigner", speaking the same language doesn't make them "fit in". I was told this in school, but then learned it on my own when I was in a show once with a student from Spain. I am fluent in Spanish, but learned a very "Central America spanish", and there were times I had to strain to make out what he was saying -- not because the words are different (for the most part), but because the inflection and pronunciation is so different! Again, I've never been there, but I guess I equate it to American and British english. Who knows. Either way, it's sad that some parts of Spain anyway get such a negative review, and on more than one occasion! I still bet that it's fascinating, and I'd love to get there some day!

Lindsay - I'm glad your family is getting excited for the trip, and I'm sorry your DB and SIL won't make it. But I agree, it's the best thing for all involved.

Elizabeth - I'm glad you had a nice dinner. I'm sure DS will be thrilled with the surprise.

Jennifer - how was the Melting Pot? I love that place!

Bernadette - you are moving right along on that to-do list.

Wonderful, as usual. When I was younger, it was my favorite restaurant. It was where we always went for birthdays, etc but then it was replaced by the Cheesecake Factory. Now, I feel like we go to the Cheesecake Factory more frequently and, while I still think it has the best selection of ridiculously good food I've ever seen I am back to preferring the Melting Pot for special occasions. Or, in this case, a couple weeks before a special occasion but at a time when I can "blame" it on said special occasion! What's also nice, is that with their Club Fondue mailing list, we never seem to pay for the chocolate fondue part!

We are back from my In-Laws. My FIL has decided not to have the surgery. He is 84 years old and has decided the pain & recovery aren't worth it. He was told he probably has 6 months to a year. It is his decision. Chuck's brother & sister are having trouble accepting this. Chuck has been preparing Katrina, Becky & I for this for at least a year. This week-end when my mom was here and asked how he was doing, Chuck told her he is preparing for his death (that was before he even had the heart attack). I'm not saying that I'm happy with the decision but I'm trying to be supportive anyways. I keep reminding myself that I don't want him to have the surgery for himself but for us. I understand him not wanting to be an invalid (55% chance of stroke with the surgery). He does have meds to take for his heart and they are watching his sugar levels because they were high yesterday. Otherwise, it is life as usual for him.

I know this is so hard for all of you, but sometimes a surgery when the patient is that much older, and with other medical problems, IS a very scary prospect. I guess I'm happy that he seems to be "comfortable" with the decision (as much as one can be ). You and your whole family, and extended family as well, will have prayers for peace!

I completely agree! I was told repeatedly that "If liked MVMCP, then [I'll] absolutely love MNSSHP". Because of that, I was somewhat disappointed. It was fun enough, but I didn't get into it near as much as MVMCP. Of course, this from the girl who is listening to Christmas music already....

My mom called last night an announced that she is coming to town for Thanksgiving. I told her we are having Thanksgiving with my bosses. She said she will have Thanksgiving with my sister and she will see us another day. She is going to stay with my sister, which is fine, but is about 100 miles away. My sister has Mother watching her kids on Black Friday so she can go out and shop. Mother said I should drive up there and go shopping, too. Um, no thanks! I can shop JUST FINE without driving 100 miles. DS would rather chew his own arm off than go shopping.

My mother is interesting. She doesn't budget at all, and her SS checks will run out in March when my sister turns 16. But Mother doesn't want a job other than her little part time job in a school cafeteria because that will mess up her benefits. Her car is ancient and not reliable, but she is planning to DRIVE down here from Kansas. I told her she should probably rent a car. Not that she should spend the money, but she should NOT try to drive her car. And a rental would get better gas mileage. She refuses to fly. I have offered to buy a ticket for her and my youngest sister to fly down, but NO. My mother frustrates DH to no end, so he wasn't thrilled to hear that she is coming. Hopefully she will stay with my sister the whole time and we will just visit with her. We don't have room for overnight guests, but she did stay with us once. She got very offended last time when I said we have to be QUIET after 8 PM because DH has to get up at 1 AM and go to work. She doesn't like to be told she has to be quiet. Excuse me? If you can't be respectful of DH then you don't need to be sleeping in our living room! I didn't want her to spend the money for a hotel but she was really quite rude when she stayed here. And since we have no idea what DH's schedule will be for that week (I expect it will be ugly!) I am certainly not going to offer to let her stay with us again.

When she was here over Spring Break she just spent a few hours with DS. Her main goal was to spend time with my sister's baby. Now my sister has TWO babies so Mother really needs to come visit them. It irks me that she doesn't seem interested in DS and she is the only grandparent he has.

I'm sorry she's being such a pain! I really hope she spends more time with your son this time around, as well!

Vicki - I am sorry you all are having to deal with your FIL's decision, but I am glad that Chuck is understanding. It is a hard point to come to with one's parents.

Elizabeth - I wish you the best of luck dealing with your DMom over Thanksgiving. I think with everything else that is happening right then it is better than she NOT stay with you all too!

I am also in a quandary about Christmas gifts this year. I got my brother and sister and their families digital picture frames for which I will load a 1GB card with our reunion photos. Since this is the first time in 12 years that we have not been to WDW (which as always been our gift to each other and the kids) I have no earthly idea what to get myBob and the girls!

Good morning, DDA!

We are headed to Richmond for brunch with the girls this morning. Actually, we are taking Kristin's winter coat and some sweaters to her. It is supposed to get cold here this week and she does not have the clothing for it. She also needs to do some grocery shopping and I don't want her walking the 10 blocks over and back to Kroger. Kathrin offered to take her, but I want to go check on her too.

She went to the clinic on Friday because she was still not feeling better. Turns out her "viral" thingy is now full-blown bronchitis and they gave her 2 bronchial dilator treatments while she was there. Also sent her home with a Z-pack, prednisone and an inhaler. She has a follow-up appointment next week too.

I am glad you enjpyed your dinner! I think we must have gotten the short end of the Melting Pot stick. I have been to our Melting Pot once and it was icky. Icky enough that I wouldn't go back and it perplexes me that so many of you really like it. But I think maybe ours just isn't a good representation. Our Cheesecake Factory is good - I have been there several times - but it is always so PACKED I never have the energy to deal with trying to get a table!

Elin - I hope Kristin feels better!

Hopefully my mother will decide she can see us on Wednesday or Saturday. Of course she won't decide that until she actually gets here. My youngest sister thinks she needs to shop and see her old friends and whatever - she has a whole separate agenda and Mother lets her call the shots. If they run out of time before Mother has seen DS she will pop in for 30 minutes before they leave for home, just so I can't say she didn't bother to see him. She didn't spend that much time with him when she lived here, so I guess I shouldn't be shocked.

They know we might be going 'sometime' but don't know when. I've asked them if they want a lot of presents for Christmas and no WDW, or a few presents and WDW. Guess what they chose!

I don't want to bring it up too far in advance, in case their dad gets a wild hair and wants to cause trouble.

I thought the same thing. However, it could be the whole Christmas thing was everywhere not just MVMCP.
