OK, I think I'm finally caught up, but I do have to admit to doing a little more skimming than I would like.

Ellen--I didn't realize you were in Rochester, too! I'll remember to let you know, too! I spent my college years at RIT, so I know the area a little.

Kate--I hope that Julia made out ok at the doctor today. Pixie dust to her!

Congrats, Jo and Glynis (and someone else, but I can't remember who...SORRY!), on the new sizes!!! I hope that I'll join you sometime in the future.

I took Julia to the doctor today and he put her on Zantac - she has been telling me this week that her heart hurts so he thinks she has acid reflux and we are going to see how this goes

we are also going to watch her for fatigue and he thinks that once spring and sunshine hits she might get a little more energy - I think that means the doctor prescribed a trip to WDW unfortunately DH doesn't agree - he is no fun!!!

Beth, I live in the town of Greece (North Greece to be specific), which of course you probably know is Northwest of Rochester and the other side of Rochester from Fairport, where Marti and Paul live. But it's not really that big of a city. We should all try to get together some time.

I am fixin' to print some designs that Kate did for my cousin and her fiance'. She did a set of Mickey ears with Bride and Groom on them. Should I do them 8x10 or 5x7. I want to be sure the CM's see them so hopefully they will get some pixie dust so what do ya'll think??

I hope someone can help you out. I did all our designs 9X11, but we're all big people. Don't know what "normal" sized people do. Good luck!

I'm not sure. Possibly both. It will depend on how many we decide to adopt which will depend on financial situations in the future. It's still a few years away, but something I really want to do if we can. I have considered domestic (slightly older, possibly siblings), China and Russia. That is without having done a lot of research so who knows how things will end up when it comes time to actually do it.

Just a word of caution with older adoptions. My SIL and her husband adopted a sibling group of 3 from Russia several years ago. They are darling kids and I love them all so much, but they came with terrible emotional baggage. Mother died, father was a drunk and left them with Grandma, Grandma was old and couldn't take care of them and let their father abuse them horribly. Then when she just couldn't take it any more, she dropped them off at an orphanage. It has caused so many emotional problems. They have been in and out of counseling almost since they arrived 9 years ago. The oldest now has a drinking and drug problem, the second is dropping out of high school, and the youngest was just put into a rehab program for drug addiction and suicide attempts.

Be very careful and research as much as you can. SIL thought she was ready to handle the problems, but it's been much tougher than they thought it would be, and the "bio" kids have suffered a lot because of it, too.

Poor little thing! Acid reflux is no fun! My Katie had it from birth to about 9 months, and I thought I'd go crazy. She threw up all the time. Did Julia's doctor mention having her sleep on an incline? That really helped Katie. I hope the medicine works for her. Heartburn is a real pain!

I agree that a trip to WDW is in order! There comes a time in winter when you just want it to be over. We crave the warmth, the sun and the spring flowers. I'll keep her in my prayers!

I wanted to add my two cents in on the older adoption front - my DH was adopted at 8 years old and he had a lot of physical and emotional problems - he had a lot of foster homes give him "back" b/c they could not handle him - he was adopted by a wonderful couple but he is an only child and he and I have discussed that an older adoption takes a lot more attention than an infant adoption and that we would not try to do this when our kids are young

I hope everyone has a good night. I am off to work from midnight to 8am at my job working at a group home for people with mental health problems. Then I am off to my retail job from 8:30am to 4:30pm. I just hope the person coming in after me in the morning shows up on time so I'm not late to my other job.

All of this just so I could have 24 consecutive hours off. I wish I could find a well paying job so I wasn't working two jobs but that is the case for now. Enjoy your sleep and have a good night.

Ok guys, I can finally write about our weekend with our friends.

Coming home yesterday we made it in 5 hours instead of 6. That made DH very happy. I always hate the coming home part.

Glad you had a good weekend!! Coming home is my least favorite part too!!! May take less time but it seems like foreeeever in the car.

Kate-that just doesn't sound like any fun for Julia!! Have they chacked for asthma? Abi had her first "attack" and said that her heart hurt. Now she knows the signs for her asthma and hasn't had a heart hurt since the first attack!!

I also want to adopt...we have always talked about adopting a special needs child. I read an article in the paper last week that there is now actually a waiting list for parents wanting to adopt down syndrome kids. I think that's great but there are a lot of kids waiting to be adopted that have no waiting list!!

I wanted to add to this as well. You need to be very strong as a family to take on an older child adoption. My brother was adopted at 9 after being neglected by his father (we suspect abuse) and in and out of foster homes. I truly thought that if any family had enough love, it was my parents and us kids. We had already welcomed two year-long exchange students into our family (I truly mean into our family - they are like brothers to me still). My sister was 12, my brother was 18 & I was almost 21. My sister was jipped because they had to spend so much time dealing with my adopted brothers emotional problems so they didn't have time for her. For a long time, he had my father snowed so it put alot of strain on my parents marriage as well.

He made it through high school (after running away for a couple months his senior year and then coming back to ask if they would take him back). He went into the service and was discharged (he says honorably) before his time was up. We lost track of him for awhile but we have started communicating again in the last couple of years. He is a brilliant person but still struggles with the emotional problems. Before he ran away, he was set to be valedictorian of his class and was a great basketball player.

I do NOT in anyway want to discourage anyone from adopting an older child. There are many children who desperately need love - my brother was one. I just want to make sure that you are aware it isn't an easy job. Any parents that adopt an older child deserve lots of praise and kudos.
