I can't believe it! I have only been on this board for a couple of months and this is my

:cool1: :cool1: 500th Post! :cool1: :cool1:

Thanks to all of my DDA friends for making this such a great place to chat! You have helped me make some major changes in my life and I thank you all for that. With your assistance, I've started to find myself again. I've lost 20+ pounds, dropped 2 pant sizes, found that I do have a creative bone in my body, made me realize that there are wonderful people still left in the world  , and reminded me that life is short and to enjoy!!! Thanks!

Only 10 more days and I'll be arriving at Disney!! Woohooo!!!!

Congrats! Good for you on all those accomplishments!

Kate-that just doesn't sound like any fun for Julia!! Have they chacked for asthma? Abi had her first "attack" and said that her heart hurt. Now she knows the signs for her asthma and hasn't had a heart hurt since the first attack!!

Happy Special Birthday Marti!!

I also want to adopt...we have always talked about adopting a special needs child. I read an article in the paper last week that there is now actually a waiting list for parents wanting to adopt down syndrome kids. I think that's great but there are a lot of kids waiting to be adopted that have no waiting list!!
i read that same article and i thought that was awsome. downs kids are just so loveable. i would love to adopt one myself.

Hi,
I know I haven't checked in awhile but things are crazy.

DH's grandfather lost his 2 year battle with colon cancer last night so it is very emothional around here.

I skimmed through to try to stay current, but probably missed a lot :guilty:

Denise- congrats on the show- let us know when it airs
Kate- Hope Julia is feeling better with her new meds (ditto to Denise and her son!)
Jo- love the tatoo.

Anyway, this is probably it for me for a few days so if something major happens please PM me!

Thanks!
Kristin

Unfortunately, we are not going to be on Cash in the Attic. I am going to have to take a break from the computer, and I won't be around for a while. Rees is fine, but some other things have completely fallen apart in the last 12 hours. I'd appreciate your prayers. I'll try to be back soon. Hugs to you all until then.

Tammi and Glynis - try Letterland - learning by phonics - here's a link to the site http://www.letterland.com/cgi-bin/shop/country.pl?xz444=03

Here's a quote from the homepage http://www.letterland.com/About_us/What.html

Letterland is a child-friendly, multi-modal system for teaching children to read, write and spell. The secret of its worldwide success lies in its pictogram characters and their ability to make learning fun!

Set in a delightful place called Letterland these pictograms are a careful fusion of letters and animated characters. These simple powerful images contain the basic phonic information that children need for accessing print.

Thanks, Clare. I think I will check it out! I think I got spoiled by my Katie. She taught herself how to read and write at 3 years old. Now she's 8 and is reading on a Jr. High School level. Jacob just finds things a bit more difficult. I just have to remember that all kids are not created equal. This kind of a program might just do the ticket for him, not to mention the twins that are coming up.

I took Julia to the doctor today and he put her on Zantac - she has been telling me this week that her heart hurts so he thinks she has acid reflux and we are going to see how this goes

we are also going to watch her for fatigue and he thinks that once spring and sunshine hits she might get a little more energy - I think that means the doctor prescribed a trip to WDW unfortunately DH doesn't agree - he is no fun!!!

What do you mean he doesn't agree? I am quite certain that WDW is exactly what the doctor meant. I hope the Zantac helps as well.

Just a word of caution with older adoptions. My SIL and her husband adopted a sibling group of 3 from Russia several years ago. They are darling kids and I love them all so much, but they came with terrible emotional baggage. Mother died, father was a drunk and left them with Grandma, Grandma was old and couldn't take care of them and let their father abuse them horribly. Then when she just couldn't take it any more, she dropped them off at an orphanage. It has caused so many emotional problems. They have been in and out of counseling almost since they arrived 9 years ago. The oldest now has a drinking and drug problem, the second is dropping out of high school, and the youngest was just put into a rehab program for drug addiction and suicide attempts.

Be very careful and research as much as you can. SIL thought she was ready to handle the problems, but it's been much tougher than they thought it would be, and the "bio" kids have suffered a lot because of it, too.

Thanks for the advice, Glynis. That is definetly one of my concerns as well. So far I haven't narrowed my thoughts down much because on the one hand, I don't want to "take" a newborn away from someone who can't have there own when I could if I wanted to, but at the same time I don't think that we as a family are fit for a child who starts would with so much emotional damage. Just thinking about it makes me so nervous, but then I felt the same what when pregnant with Terra.

Denise and Kristen-- extra :grouphug: , pixiedust: , and prayers to your families at this time!!

OK. Does anyone else see how close to another milestone we are? I wonder who will get it. I like it when someone gets it without realizing! That's always fun to watch.
