Good morning, everyone!

I think I'm still in a witchy mood, but please tell me what you think of this phone conversation.

Me: Is there going to be an 8th grade awards ceremony this year?
School Secretary: Yes, but the information hasn't come out yet.
Me: Can you tell me when it's going to be?
SS: The information will come home soon. It will be held during the school day this year on one of the days in exam week.
Me: During the school day?
SS: Yes, and it's only for the students. We decided to do it during the day this year, because we aren't having any half days for exams. (Note: They didn't have any half days last year either.)
Me (in state of shock): Only for the students?
SS: Yes. It's during the school day.
Me: So the parents aren't invited?
SS: No, it's only for the students, because it's during the school day.
Me: They aren't inviting the parents even though it's during the day?
SS: No.
Me: Thanks.

I kept repeating myself, because I was basically speechless. How do you not invite parents to the 8th grade (last year of middle school) awards assembly?! I haven't seen any misbehaving parents at previous awards ceremonies. Do you think that I'm being too controlling a parent or unreasonable to think that there should be parents invited to this? Should we not be allowed to celebrate our children's successes with them?

ETA: I should also add that there is no moving up ceremony for these kids, so this awards night was the last big night before heading to high school. The kids have a social dance (which I would never dream of wanting an invitation to as a parent), but there is nothing else to celebrate their move into high school.

Good morning, DDA!!

Yeah!! For Elin's summer vacation!!!:dance3:

Yay, Elin! I am glad you have some time off!

Tammi that was so sweet of Bob! Sounds like he might be a keeper :goodvibes

That was so thoughful! What a nice thing to do!:goodvibes

I want to be in Disney World right now!

I think we ALL want to be at WDW right now! I know I do! We have 72 more days.

Garrett & Riley's teams both won their games tonight, so the long day was well worth it! Tomorrow won't be as bad, Garrett only has practice & Riley has a game at 7.

Thanks for all the prayers for Butch. I wish I had good news to report. Kathy had left a message, so I called & talked to her when I got home. Butch had surgery for a blockage to his heart, but he is still in a coma. The problem is that he was not breathing for 5-10 minutes before they revived him. They are going to wait 24 hours to see if he comes out of it. If not they will do a cat scan & see what his chances are for recovery. I am hoping & praying with all my heart that he comes back. His wife & grandson both need him. About 3 years ago Butch's son hung himself because his wife left him. Butch was the one to find him. They now have custody of their grandson. It is just to sad :(

Please keep them all in your thoughts. Hopefully tomorrow I will have good news.

Congrats to the boys on their games!! What a sad thing for Butch's family! I really hope he wakes up and can go home!

Yay, Elin!!! I go in for one last cleaning/reorganization day at the preschool today, and then I am also on summer vacation!

Yay, Beth! Enjoy your "break". :)

I need to get in the shower. We're going ot the aquarium this morning, and I need to stop at the bank and get cash to pay for parking. It is one of those stupid pay lots where you have to jam the bills in the slot that corresponds to the number of your parking space. I hate those. We'll probably come home for lunch, then go to Target later today. Brother & Sister have 2 birthday parties to attend on Sunday so we need to go get presents for those.

Have a great day, everyone!!:yay:

Beth - That's weird. There were quite a few parents at the 5th grade awards, and they even brought the 4th graders in to watch as well! I don't know why they would have it as "students only". Hmm. Have there been big changes in administrators?

No changes in administrators. The 5th grade parents in our school had to fight to keep the 5th grade moving up ceremony this year, too. The other elementary schools in the district (which all feed into the same middle school) have great ceremonies planned, but our school had to fight to even have a little moving up night. I just don't get it. It feels like parents don't even count. I think that I am an involved parent, but I don't believe that I am over-involved or a "helicopter" parent.

Hunter received a letter in the mail today from the Principal of his school:

Dear Hunter

Enclosed with this letter is a free ticket to attend a Vermont Lake Monster game on either July 11 or August 7, 2007. Mrs. Read and I have selected two students from each grade, whom we consider Outstanding Students. If you are able to attend either Lake Monster game, you will join students who have been selected for this honor from schools all over Vermont. You will also have the opportunity to have your name announced during the game.

It has been a pleasure to work with Mrs. Read to honor students from our school who are all around good citizens. Thank you for all you bring to this school. We hope that you enjoy the show.

The Vermont Lake Monster's are our Baseball Team. We will go to the game and he will get to go out onto the field and introduce himself to all the fans. We are so Proud of him. He is very excited. Nick is a little jealous as he is also a Great Student and has had an acceptional year. Oh well, maybe next year.

Very cool! Enjoy the game.

Fly-by post ala Paula-style. :)

My friend emailed me this question this morning, but since we've never done the dining plan nor traveled with other family members, I don't know the answer! Any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! :thumbsup2

My friend writes:

I thought of this question today and wanted to ask you this before I proceed with more ADR's. For the ones I have made, I have placed them all under our reservation for 7 people. Since we are actually a party of 5 and 2, when we pay will they be able to split it like that or will it all be billed to the way the reservation was made which was 7 people? So, are we going to get docked our 5 credits and have to pay cash for the other 2 in our party or will they be able to pull the meal credits from both rooms? Does that make sense?

I believe they will be able to pull from 2 different rooms. When we went last month we were all on the same "meal card", but we were all in the same room under the same ressie. I would think it would be just like asking for 2 separate checks. :confused3

Happy Birthday, June...

Thanks for the reminder. I think about her often.

I love the Inner Harbor! I haven't been there since Miles was a baby. Maybe the date will work out for me, too. Though it's a little far.

Oh I hope it works out that you could come down!

o wow--didnt realize i was close to so many people haha

Well that just means we will count you in for the meet in Baltimore!

Yay!!

So I need so good wishes to relax. I am so worked up and not sure over what exactly. Perhaps it is the pouring rain, and the 45 minute drive to the interview, or perhaps the interview itself or the fact I never got a confirmation email about the time of the interview, or perhaps the fact I don't feel well. I am off to call the interviewer to confirm.

I know I can do well, I currently just feel very blah.

ETA: I called the interviewer she was so apologetic, as she thought she sent me a response email. At least that is one thing off my list of worries.

I'm sure you'll do great!

Here are some pictures from this weekend

Thanks for sharing Jen

I spent from early on Saturday until almost 9 p.m. running errands for work and personal errands. I really have to find a way to do some of them during the week. Maybe we really will get our make-up games in this week, so that the only baseball left will be tournament games on weekends. We'll see how it goes...

Sending PD and prayers to all who need them!

Hopefully you'll get all the games in this week. Sounds like an exhausting Saturday.

Today is a good day so far..i have a bit of a fever so im taking it easy..i decided to cancel my plans to go to the movies and stay home and relax. My friend emailed me that she is looking into a cruise..so now i am too ;)
its giving me something to research today at least!

Have fun planning!

When is Lucy due and when do you all want to meet?

My mom has been wanting to get back to Inner Harbor, so it would be no problem getting her and my sister to meet up with ya all.

She is due July 5th.

Today my Daniel turns 8.

I feel like it was just yesterday that I was having him.

I am so sad how fast it has gone.

Happy Birthday Daniel!

Emma will be 8 in November and I feel your pain. Where did our babies go?

We LOVED the Inner Harbor! Kyle is still bummed that we disliked the UMD and JH programs so much, or we would have definitely ended up in Baltimore!

Well, it is a bummer. I could only imagine if you did end up near hear, Emma wouldn't leave you alone.

Well, I feel incredibly guilty about it all (even though it was totally my mom's fault), but we're keeping the tickets as they are! I still can't get totally excited yet, because I just hate the position I put my mom in. And to top it off, we're leaving ON my Dad's birthday now (he can't come with us because of work conflicts), going to a resort he would love more than anyone I know (VWL) and making him cancel their trip that he was looking forward to. I just talked to him for a few minutes asking him if I could please try and switch their flight, etc, and he truly seems like he doesn't mind. I guess that's what Dad's are for, among other things :sad1: Sheesh! I'm such an emotional goober.

I need to just look at it this way:

I BOUGHT MY AIRFARE FOR SEPTEMBER! (And paid $321, including all taxes and fees, for 4 people round trip on n/s flights)!

Sorry it didn't work out for you.

Hi all! I only have a few minutes before I have to head back out.

I need the power of the DDA to say a prayer for one of my co-workers, Butch & his family. His wife called me at work today & he had a massive heart attack. When the paramedics got to him, he had no pulse & they were able to bring him back. Right now he is comatose & has been life lighted to a hospital that specializes in heart attacks. Kathy was told that they hope he pulls through.

Please pray, say a good thought, or whatever you do for Butch. He just has to make it through this :sad1:

Prayers for Butch and his family.

I think the interview went well. It lasted over an hour. It would be something I would be interested in doing. The only thing is it would be like an hour commute each way everyday. However I would only be working 35 hours most weeks, which would be full time. They will be calling back for second interviews sometime this week. They want the 3 positions filled by Friday. My big concern is my store has a lack of staff and if they call me back for a second interview I am not sure if I would be able to go.

I also went out to Applebee's for my Dad's b-day which is tomorrow. It was the first food I really ate today except for a rice krispy treat and a piece of toast as I felt pretty crappy this morning.

I have to go to the DMV tomorrow to get my photo taken for my renewed driver's license. I am also picking up my Grandma so she can get her picture ID photo retaken as she does not have a driver's license. I hope to not be there forever.

Good to hear the interview went well. Happy Birthday to your dad!!

Hello, Jen!:)

Becky - I have to tell you, your first allegiance should NOT be to your store. I know you feel responsible. I used to work retail management, so I really do understand, but you can NOT turn down a second interview if they call you for one. Your District Mgr. will just have to figure it out. That is her job. Good luck!!

Well put Elizabeth!!

hi everyone :)
im good,,still sick so im headed to the doctor tomorrow--i had a fever of 102 and feel like its a sinus infection so figure its best to go in

ive been reading this post about an amazing sweet 16 trip http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1395059

Hope you feel better.

Hello, Kelli!

So who has exciting plans for the week? I am taking the kids to the aquarium tomorrow, then Wednesday we are going to see Madagascar at the theater for $1.:cool1:

Well last night we waited for 2 hours for a carpet company to come out for an estimate. They never showed, they had us booked for Tuesday but I was told Monday. :headache: We went through BJ's wholesale club so they made the appointment. So they are coming out tonight. Wednesday I have my OB checkup! And I need to get Emma packed as she leaves Thursday for Michigan for my cousin's wedding. My parents are taking her and my niece. Oh and our new van had to go back to the dealer today as the cd player isn't working right.

Well said, Elizabeth... so I am just quoting you! Listen to her, Becky!

::yes::

I am officially on summer vacation! The last 3 recitals are done and I am in my PJs...
:cool1:

Enjoy!!

Yes, because we have a gazillion snow days to make up.

And for most of them there wasn't any snow on the ground!!

I had the best surprise tonight. Bob was supposed to come over this evening. I told him I'd be home around 7:30 and we agreed 8 would be a good time for him to come by. So at 7:20 I'm pulling into my driveway and Alyssa yells "Bob's here!" (She sees his car in the driveway). That wonderful man came over as soon as he dropped his dd off and started mowing my grass for me. He sure knows the way to my heart! ;) :goodvibes  So of course I change clothes and go out and help, but it is so nice having it done. I was wondering how I was going to get it all done since I'm working late all week. And with TS Barry that came through over the weekend it seems to have revived the growing.

Now I'm going to bed.

What a guy!!

135 days people!!! 135 days!!!

:dance3: :yay: :jumping1: :rainbow:

:grouphug: to all in need :grouphug:

I want to be in Disney World. I need to be back in Disney World.

My DD and I are now official scrapbookers. We have a Cricut. I'm looking for the Disney font cartridge for less than $59.99.

That's it for now....:goodvibes

I agree, WDW sounds perfect right about now! And it seems like everyone else wants to be there too.

Can you use a 40% off coupon at Michael's or AC Moore.

Garrett & Riley's teams both won their games tonight, so the long day was well worth it! Tomorrow won't be as bad, Garrett only has practice & Riley has a game at 7.

Here's hoping for good news today for Butch.

Morning DDA! Nothing too exciting today - Bob's in the Detroit area - and called to brag about the gas mileage he got driving up there (I'm sure driving 80 helps some!)

Today is my girlfriends 50th birthday - I sent her flowers and balloons which hopefully she'll be suprised about. I should go find her a Hallmark E Card too...
At the Disney store yesterday there were so much Pirates stuff there - AND the scary Disney Tiki guys...they even make stuffed animals with them!
Other than that, nothing exciting! Oh yea! I'm trying on dresses this Saturday with Mom! :teeth:

Glad Bob made it safely to Detroit. Have fun with Mom on Saturday!

Good morning, everyone!

I think I'm still in a witchy mood, but please tell me what you think of this phone conversation.

Me: Is there going to be an 8th grade awards ceremony this year?

Wow, I would think that most parents would want to be there for something like that.

:thumbsup2 dont think baltimore is too far..ill have to check!

It's about 2 hrs or so. Not far at all! ;)

It really sounds like you guys have a great relationship. I'm glad to see you so happy. A year ago you couldn't have imagined being this happy. Isn't it funny how life works.

I think I've lived with a car guy for too long because I know for a fact that cars and trucks get there best gas mileage at 55 miles per hour. Over that speed you start to lose gas economy.

Our school has every event open to parents. In fact I could show up any day at any time and visit the classrooms. We are always notified of any show, assembly event and the public is always welcome. That being said even if our school didn't work that way I would show up for something that important anyway. You're a tax payer and parent, you have that right. Would they really kick you out? Good luck.

Deb

Well I need to get off of here. I need to get more of Lucy's clothes and things washed and put away. I'm slowly making progress, but I just really hate folding all the little clothes. Have a great day.

That's what I thought too, but having limited experience with the dining plan, I wasn't sure if there was "small print" I should warn her about. Thanks. :)

Maybe soon! Like in 135 days. ;)

Bob's going to WDW?!! :yay:

Thanks, Deb, and you are so right. I thought my world was coming to an end, and it did for awhile. But like the song says.....If you're going through h*** keep on going....which is what I had to do. Now I've met someone wonderful who treats me good. So I'm going to ride the wave and see where it takes us. Last night he and I were talking and I made the comment about how my children are always asking if he is coming over and that they have taken to him quite well. His response was 'maybe it's because they see that I make their mom happy.' Ok, I know that is sappy, but it made me realize that even my kids must see the difference in me. Sorry to go on and on, but I just wanted to share that.
