I have a small dilemma & would like your thoughts.

Garrett is not happy playing baseball this year. I am not sure if it is because he is in a different league or if he just doesn't care for it anymore. He says it is just not fun anymore. I told him he has to finish out this season & then he does not have to play anymore if he does not want to.

I am wondering if I am wrong telling him to stay. Should I let him quit or will I be giving him the wrong message? I don't want him to be unhappy, that will not help the team any, but then I don't want him to think it is ok to just quit in the middle of something.

What would you do? I think I already know what I am going to do, but I would like some thoughts or opinions.
HHmm....that is a tough one. I often get that from my kids, that they don't want to go, etc. but they are younger, so I make them go anyway. Garrett is of the age where he knows what he likes and doesn't like. How much more of the season is there? Can he convey to you exactly what makes it 'not fun' anymore? After all, it is the same game as before, so what is different? If he gives you a legitimate reason, then maybe I would let him quit, with the understanding that you will not re-enroll him next season. If he is being wishy-washy about his reason, then I would help him work through it so he enjoys it again. This way you send him the message that you are willing to work with him to get things back on track, instead of taking the easy way out and quitting.

Janet,
You have gotten great advice. I agree I would probably have him finish the season.

He has over a month left, tournaments start after the 4th of July. What I copied in the bold is how I am thinking. I know he is only 13, but if he is truly unhappy.........

At the moment I plan on keeping him in. I will talk to him some more & hopefully all will work out.

my parents told my brothers when they said they didnt want to play anymore that they had to finish the season because you just dont start something and not finish it. so thats what they did if they didnt wanna play next season they didnt sign them up.

welcome home jen. hope you had a blast and thanks for the postcard i got it today.

i have an interview on tuesday for glamour shots and the van is fixed supposedly. dad took it in this morning. i finally ordered my disney pictures and i am now separating them into groups how i am going to scrap them. 350+ pics ugh.

Has he said why it's not fun anymore? Maybe have him elaborate a little before you make a decision. My gut feeling is to have him stick it out, but I've never been in this situation, so take my comments with a grain of salt.

I did in January!

I left the rose there, and later that day, as we were leaving, we saw other people sitting on the bench, holding the rose for their picture, too. Pretty cool, huh?

Just a drive-by post letting you all know that all is well in the U.P. I was in Lansing for the last couple of days. Got home at midnight last night. I hoped to take off today and tomorrow but just too much work to do so I worked all day and will work most of tonight and tomorrow morning. Hoping I'll be able to get done by noon tomorrow. I have lots of relatives and friends coming in for Becky's graduation. There is still so much to get done before they arrive. The people that Becky really wanted to be able to come are all planning on being here. She doesn't know about my brother and his baby son yet. That is a surprise for Saturday. Talk to you later. I'm off to pick up dinner so we don't starve.

Hi, everyone! Sorry I didn't post much yesterday afternoon. Jacob stayed home from school with a fever yesterday. I was making him a Cup O Soup for lunch and spilled boiling water all over my dominant hand. Suffice it to say I'm pretty blistered, but it's not sore today!

Things here are pretty busy today. Katie left on her last school field trip at 8:00 this morning. They are going to the Great Salt Lake to play around, and then visit some museums on Utah history. Jacob has Field Day today, so he's off with sunscreen and a huge water bottle. The twins graduate from preschool in about an hour, so we're getting them ready to go! I'll post pictures later!

Once that's done, Alan and I are loading the twins into the car, driving to Salt Lake to drop our car DVD player off to be repaired (gotta have that for our trip), then make one final stop at the Disney Outlet store. Alan wants a few more T-shirts. Hopefully we'll make it home before Katie and Jacob make it home!

Have great days, DDA!!!
Hope you are both feeling better.

Katie had this happen with soccer. Mid-way thru the season she decided she didn't want to do it anymore. I said she had made a committment & had to stand by it. She finished the season.

Love your picture Glynis!

Hi Vicki! Sorry to hear things are so hectic for you right now. Hope you have a wonderful weekend & can relax a little :)

He is doing fine! He did great at his game last night, could not even tell anything had happened.

Have fun at Andrews ceremony today! Our schools are not out till next week & I am ready.

I am glad Riley is feeling OK!

Marci - Are your boys out of school after tomorrow?

OMG! I just heard screeching tires & a loud crash. There is a beauty salon across the street from me & an older lady just drove her car into the side of the building :scared1: Her car is sitting halfway inside! I here the sirens now.

The lady did get out of the car, so hopefully she is ok & everyone that was inside. I gotta go outside & see.

Yikes! That can't be good!

Oh and one last thing.....

I only have 6 weeks left. :cool1: :scared1:

Yay! Lucy will be here soon! I hope you enjoy the new van! I need to take the Pearl in for service. When I start it in the morning (only the first start of the day - kind of weird) it makes a noise like I turned the key too far, but there ISN'T a key - it is a push button. there is also somehting broken or unfastened or loose inthe driver's seat because it sort of "thumps" every time I go around a corner. It just turned 3000 miles this week so I should NOT be having problems!

June 21st,
yes the baby is active but I am not feeling the movements yet.

I was trying to take a nap one day when I was about 19 wks along with DS and he kicked and my shirt flew up. I think I could feel him before that, but I still remember that day so vividly!

Jen I received your postcard today, Thank you!

Jen, DH says we got your postcard today! Thank you!

Wow very busy day!

Glad to hear Jacob is feeling better. Hope your hand heals quickly, that sounds painful

Glynis, I am glad your hand isn't hurting!

Thank you all :goodvibes I guess I just needed reassurance that I was doing the right thing.

I do hope that he plays next year as it will be his last before high school. But I will leave that choice up to him. For now he will finish out this season(maybe he will get the good feeling back!).

I don't know. DS has never wanted to stop something in the middle. He just refuses to sign up for anything! Sometimes I wish he would just TRY something, anything, to get out of the house! I think he might enjoy Taekwondo but it is a pretty big time commitment and I don't know how intense middle school will be so we aren't going to try it right now. He does his theater class and that is it. I might see if he will take an art class, but he SHOULD have art as an elective so he might not need a class.

Well, it's official! DS is a 6th grader! He made STRAIGHT A's for the last 6 weeks! His semester and year-end averages are all A's and B's. Bless his heart, if it wasn't for the C he made in math the first 6 weeks he would have made A/B honor roll. We are SO proud of him!:dance3: I went in with him this morning and thanked all 3 of his core teachers. He has had a good year. I am terrified of middle school. I hope it doesn't show!

welcome home jen. hope you had a blast and thanks for the postcard i got it today.
