For now none. Ideally, we would be unschoolers, but I don't think I'm quite trusting of myself to say that fully yet. Plus, I don't think the "real" unschoolers would call me one fully either since I do suggest things and try to help her learn particular things that I think of as well as what she asks about. Instead, I think we will be more of a child-led subject and interest based style molding things around whatever topic she is interested in at the time. As it is, she ended up learning alot about the life cylce of a tree in the fall as she kept asking why the leaves turned colors. Granted she doesn't understand really how the tree makes chlorophyl (sp?), but at least knows that it does and that makes the leaves green. I don't really believe in workbooks being assigned, though I'm not opposed to them being around if she wants to use them. Phil and I are both bigger into actual accounts of history rather than just textbooks. I just really don't see me ever purchasing much "official" curiculum, but can see loads of books on all things all around.

After that rambling...what are you considering?

we are considering child led, I need to find my books. their is a ood one I found that helps you choose your teaching style and your childs learning style. Are your parents supportive of you doing this. Mine are not. My mom said to someone the other day that I was thinking of homeschooling but I probally would not do it. That made me mad and more determined to do it.

okay i am going to say goodnight .

Tia is Terra still up?

Good morning Tammi and Elin.

how many years was Steven missing? You siad Shawn was missing for 4 years, right?

I always wonder if the kids are still alive and if they are going to school. If they are why dont they tell the teachers?

Someone on another thread said that Steven was missing for 7 years. I had thought it was closer to 10, but don't know for sure. Shawn was missing for 4 1/2 years.

Robin told the reporter for the newspaper that she hoped Daniel would get a Heros Welcome home, not just for him but for all that have lost their lives & for the ones still fighting. How does this sound for the reader board:

A Heros Welcome
Daniel B Miller Jr

I like it! I would definitely put the "Hero" in there since that was something so important to Robin. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you all tomorrow. I hope that the weather doesn't cause any problems or delays.

Are your parents supportive of you doing this. Mine are not. My mom said to someone the other day that I was thinking of homeschooling but I probally would not do it. That made me mad and more determined to do it.

My Mom is okay with it. She's known more people involved with it over the years so understands it better. However, she also has concerns with things like band since it was so big in all of our high school careers (Mom, Dad, Me, Kristi and Erin). My Dad is not much for it, but I found out that is because he believes that it is our duty to be "in" the community and part of that is going to the schools. (Or this is what he told Phil anyway.) Of course, I said (to Phil only since it was later on that I foundt his out) that I wondered how Dad feels about all of those people (including many in our church) who send their kids to private schools - religious or non. To me, going to a school 20 miles away is not "in" the community.

My in-laws simply don't know and we plan to keep it that way for as long as we can. They will not agree if only for the reason if "it's just not proper". They are completely into what is "right" socially, especially on the social ladder. My MIL has been asking us since Terra was 15mo when we were going to put her into preschool. She says, "How else will she learn to follow commands." However, they are both approaching 80 and not in the best of health so it may never been an issue that we need to broach with them.

Luckily, there are a lot of families in my parent's church that homeschool and that have homeschooled over the past 15 years so the ground work has been laid for the idea already. Our church even offers enrichment classes for homeschool kids where they can work with other church members in music, advanced science, etc.

okay i am going to say goodnight .

Tia is Terra still up?

Good morning Tammi and Elin.

Not anymore. She fell asleep on the couch a little bit ago. This time I think that I was the one keeping her up as she was looking pretty tired, but I hadn't gotten my pajamas yet. It's hard with Phil going to bed so early because we can't just go lay down in bed otherwise her talking wakes him up. I usually read in the recliner while she falls asleep on my lap and then we both go up.

Oh, I didn't quite catch up quickly enough to see the goodnights. I had a great time with my sister at the church thing tonight! I think that it was the first time since months before Terra was born that I got to spend an evening alone with other women. We met for dinner at one woman's house with a group of 8. Then all of the groups met at the church for dessert and a devotional lead by another woman. Plus, she and her 16yo sang a beautiful song and we played a couple of "ice breaker" games. It was SO nice to just be able to sit and talk with other women for an evening without having to worry about kids. Of course, I could have done without the 12 phone calls from my husband, but then that is why I left Terra in my mother's charge, not his. I can't help that he chose to come down and decided not to try to get back upstairs alone.

The woman who spoke over dessert was sharing about the true, life-long friendships that she has made over the years and how important it is to really nurture them. Some friends you just know are going to be around for a long long time. It was another reminder how thankful I am for the DDA.

On that note, it is past my bedtime. Thank you all for your time and your friendship. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers everyday. :grouphug:

See now that is just wrong. We are supposed to have a winter mix, today till Tues. but it just sprinkled today.
It can rain and snow all it wants, just no ice please.

It's raining pretty hard here. I have a real dilemma with this forecast. I'm supposed to be heading out of here this morning to visit my parents in the Buffalo area (and return their dog to them). The weather report for Buffalo and Rochester indicate up to 6" of snow Sunday into Monday, and we are supposed to have a wintry mix with sleet and freezing rain here all weekend. I NEED to be at work on Tuesday morning, so I can't stay in Buffalo an extra day. I don't want to take risks, especially with the kids, but I don't know if this weather is really going to happen.

Beth

Good Morning DDA,

Jen - :grouphug: I hope your grandmother is well soon

Stay warm everyone, it sounds like a cold weekend for most of us.

I better get myself in gear and head off to work, I decided against the new job offer. It is a management position in a retail chain, I have been offered management more than once in the past and have always turned it down. I've seen it and I don't want to dedicate that much time to my job, that simply doesn't leave enough time for family and home, and those have been and always will be my priority. So for the time being I will have to do my best to work it out where I'm at.

Have a good weekend everyone

Debbie

Don't take any risks, Beth. Good luck with deciding.

Good morning, DDA!

It's a balmy 50 degrees here. I'm starting to feel guilty with this mild weather we are having, when so many of you are buried under inches of snow, or expecting bad weather. Oh well, guilt over!!!

Congrats, Deb and Chris! Both your logos made it into the twelve in the poll! How do I know which one to vote for?

Mine didn't make it. Here it is:

And here is the one I didn't enter. I decided that it was too complex to be a "logo" but looking at the others in the poll, I think I should have gone with this one.

When the girls are out they just set up a table and never ask anyone if they would like to buy. The adult(s) with them sell the cookies for them. :confused3

That is what happens here too--
My grandpa refuses to buy from the ones that their parents sell!

We usually get a TON of cookies from the firefighter's kids
