So here is my proposal story.
The day before Dh graduated from College, we were hanging out at his apt. We decided to go for a walk around campus, kind of say goodbye, visit our favorite places. As we came to the chapel, we decided to go in and light a candle for the future and for Thanks. After I lit the candle and turned around Jim was down on one knee. It was pretty special.

He says I just lucked out. He had the ring in his pocket all night and did not know how he was going to ask.

While I was crying, securtiy came in and told us to leave he was locking up for the night! :rotfl2:

The next day his car broke down on the way to dinner with both our families and his best friend. My fav picture is me holding the jumper cables and my bright shiny ring in the sunlight!

He wants to be romantic and is pretty sappy, but I am not appreciative enough. What can I say??

My proposal. Dh and I started dating when I was a Senior in High School. He was a sophmore :thumbsup2 . Well I went off to college and he obviously didn't. I came home every weekend to spent time with him. The proposal came on Christmas Day. He said he needed to take me somewhere. He took me to the place that we met. It was a teen rec center that had weekly dances. It was closed, but he took me out onto the steps. It was snowing. He got down on one knee and proposed to me. It was very romantic and we were very young. I was a freshman in college and he was a junior in high school. All our friends thought we were crazy. They all thought we were too young to make such a big committment. My mother was very upset and insisted that I was not engaged that I could accept the ring as a "friendship" ring only. Well, I knew we were truly engaged and didn't care what anyone thought. I complete my BS and Chris went off and got his Associates Degree. We both graduate in 1991. We were married in July 1992. It was a long engagement, but we were lucky enough to have spent time together and time apart and we knew that we were perfect for each other. We have now been married for 13 1/2 years.

My engagement ring is very small. It wasn't very expensive. He has offered several times to buy me a bigger one, but it just wouldn't be the same. I love my tiny little diamond ring. He has given me 2 saphire and diamond rings since. They have several small diamonds with a sahpire which is my birthstone. Some things are just better unchanged.

I thinnk you and Steve are pretty sappy! If Jim ever sent me the kind of cards you and Steve buy, I'd laugh right there! Surely it would be a joke card!!

Then I'd yell for spending that much $$ on a card!!! :lmao:

Heck, I can eat a Wnedy's for what a nice card costs!!

Now that sounds like me! I used to love giving & receiving cards but not at the prices they want for them anymore. Give me a nice note and that is much better. Hey, that money can be saved for Disney. I don't buy wrapping paper much anymore either. Newspaper works fine! They are just going to tear it off and throw it away anyway. :lmao:

mom and I were at Target and she went to pick out an anniversary card for us - when she got back I could see the price on the back as 3.99 :confused3

I took it out of her hand - read and said thank you and then put it back!!! I made her go to the 99 cent aisle at Hallmark - see I learned something from grandma!!!! :thumbsup2

I keep trying to tell mom - never buy cards at Target!!!

Kate - you're gonna love this one -- I was out today and looked at Valentine Cards. There was one with Pepe LaPew right on the front. He kind of looked like Paul's signature.... so I read it and put it in the cart - thinking he would love it. It wasn't sappy enough in my opinion.... but I thought he'd get a kick out of it, especially this year. Then I looked at the price, cheaped out and put it back. I told him about it and he got a kick out of it, and I didn't spend the money. Heck - its only a card!!

My Mom has her original ring and she'll never get it reset or replaced! She does wear a pretty anniversary band.

I was not trying to be nosy, just shocked at his age!!!! But you have a wonderful story!!!

Marti, that cracks me up! I do that all the time!!

I thought of you last night. They opened a new Chick Fil A in town and the kids had to check it out. And Grace LOVES veggietales and got 2 cd's! That's the kids meal toy right now.
