Marti, that cracks me up! I do that all the time!!

I thought of you last night. They opened a new Chick Fil A in town and the kids had to check it out. And Grace LOVES veggietales and got 2 cd's! That's the kids meal toy right now.

OK - now that is just not fair!! I never did get to try the food - my stomach was messed up... and I have no idea when we'll have a chance to go back! What's your favorite thing on the menu??

Thanks. I got it from another thread here ("Let's go Steelers")... pretty amazing stories, videos, etc :goodvibes

Here is my engagement story...

DH and I were in school in different cities - he in Abilene getting his Masters, me in Austin finishing my BBA. We are both originally from the Houston area.

May 1 of my junior year in college, we both met in Houston for the weekend. He had been acting a little weird (cared a whole lot about what I would be wearing on our date that Friday night!), but I didn't think too much of it. However, my college roommate was so certain that I was getting engaged that weekend!

We went to a nice dinner at a steakhouse, and then drove across town (and in Houston, that's a long way!) to the pier where we spent about 4 hours talking into the wee hours of the morning on our first date.

However, on the way, I guess from nerves and our large dinner, DH's stomach began bothering him - so much, that we had to pull over at a really ratty gas station so he could take care of things! He was then in there for so long, that after waiting, I decided that I should go in there after he was done since we would be down at the harbour for a while.

Needless to say, we continued on to the pier, he proposed in a very sweet way (we were so worried we were going to end up dropping my ring in the water!), and then we headed back to his parents house, where unbeknownst to me ,our entire family, and several friends, had gathered. DH told everyone the story, and said that he knew that we were destined to make it if I was still willing to marry him after "witnessing" (and smelling) what I did earlier that night! :p

It was 7 years on January 2!

Tinkaroo -

your story reminded me of the worst proposal story I have ever heard:

one of my DH's friend took his girlfriend to this church in Cincinnati

photo4-43.gif

anyone who lives here knows where this is

anyway - they stood at the top of the hill overlooking the city and the river - it is one of the best views in Cincinnati - see the big hill?? the long drop down

He pulls out the ring - proposes and then he was so nervous - he stumbled around trying to get it out of the box and dropped the ring down the hill

he let her panic for a minute or two - and then pulled out the real ring in his pocket

he had bought a fake ring to drop - I would have been very :furious:

Okay -- while we are talking about romantic, my DH told me I had to tell you the rest of the story from last week. If you've been following my saga, I have a fantastic husband, but I have one major complaint -- he has no sympathy for all my sinus infection/allergy problems. Anyway, last week I told him about my posts here on that topic, and I think he actually started understanding that it really hurt my feelings. Anyway, he surprised me with this big bouquet of flowers. I was so excited and posted my good fortune on here, before seeing what he had done. He had the florist do red and yellow flowers (who do we know that wears fed and yellow???) AND....
he had her put a hidden mickey in the water of the flowers. He really gets it! (this addiction to Mickey...)

That's sweet!!

My proposal:

I think that my DH actually proposed in a letter he wrote after our three dates telling how much he loved me. He knew after seeing me the first time we were meant to be together.
He would take other guys duty days so he could save the $$ to get my ring. He even told me the style so I could go see it. Never was able but I knew he had good taste because he had given me a pearl ring first.
So after almost three years I came to Pa to meet his family. We are laying on the couch in the family room, making out. :cool1:
He takes the pearl ring off my finger and tried to throw it away and says
"I have something else that will look much better" and puts the engagement ring on my finger. He askes me to marry him so he could keep me happy and of course I started crying and then said yes. :cloud9:

Glynis - I'm so glad your hubbie came up trumps on the proposal second time round ::yes:: maybe he wanted to check you'd definitely say yes before he asked you in public!

Jennifer - your DH sounds soooooo romantic! Love the proposal

Marci - love the idea of those hidden mickey flowers :mickey:

Nancy & Deb &Tinkerbell - love your proposal stories too - blimey everyone has such romantic DHs!

Tinkaroo - Wow I think your DH is a very lucky man that you married him after that! :)

Nancy & Vicki & Marti - I was joking with my friend at work yesterday saying that I'd put away last year's Christmas cards that DH and I wrote each other so we could put them back out next year! They're just so expensive and what's a piece of card anyway?? I read this book once about a woman who bought a journal and on their first anniversary wrote a note to her hubbie about her thoughts on the year and how much she  him - then got him to do the same, then each "card occassion" instead of buying cards they'd write another message - so over the years they had something to look back on and see how their relationship had grown. I started a journal but it got packed away when we moved out last year and I haven't found it again yet - must dig it out as I still love that idea :)

I have to admit I am a suckler for wrapping paper though!

Kate - :lmao:

Brenda  FANTASTIC news on the tax rebate :)

Hope I didn't miss anyone...

Your dh sounds like mine lol

Kate,

Keep in mind when you are designing this backpack that some of us have outgrown strollers so we need a larger main zipper section than those with the storage compartments under the strollers. Some people have mentioned about having backpacks where things fall all the way down. That's why I love my Vera Bradley purse since within the purse there are 6 other smaller pockets so I know where everything is. There are very few backpacks that have smaller compartments within the larger zipper section. Of course most backpacks are not designed for Disney trips they are designed to hold books for school so there is the problem.

Lynn

Lynn -- That is exactly why I love my Vera Bradley purse too! I have not checked out her backpacks to see if they have the pocket "system" too. Anyone have one of those? They might be worth taking a look at, Kate.

I thinnk you and Steve are pretty sappy! If Jim ever sent me the kind of cards you and Steve buy, I'd laugh right there! Surely it would be a joke card!!

Then I'd yell for spending that much $$ on a card!!! :lmao:

Heck, I can eat a Wnedy's for what a nice card costs!!

Hey, Nancy.... aren't you supposed to be back on your diet!?!? :rolleyes2 ;)

I always let my DH wear the backpack. That way he doesn't have to take it off he just turns toward me so I can get in and out of it. Works pretty good for us. Soooooo.....I can't picture him wearing a Vera Bradley backpack. But one like a Vera Bradley with two outside zippers and the pockets on the inside would be great. But would we want it made of fabric or a more durable material?? That's another good thought for Kate.

I am going to try to catch up on about 20 pages
Glynnis - I will let you know when I go to Salt Lake City & I would love it DH sang to me. :cloud9:
J&N's Mom - love the picture, Aren't I special I know someone who is a celebrity :woohoo:
My favorite bag. I like to travel small. Even though my family makes fun of me, I wear a fanny pack at disney. DH carries the camera back pack (he brings all his lenses & 3 cameras with him). All I bring is money, charge card, license, AP, small camera, room key and pins. Sometimes I wear my Pin fanny pack also, if it's going to be a pin trading day. When I carry a purse at home, my biggest problem is finding things inside of it. However I have two friends who carry big pocketbooks & always complain they can't find anything they want, when they want it, so clear pockets would be wonderful.
Amy - sorry about the termites, I hate bugs.
Marci - love the hiden mickey flowers. How nice.
Glynis, Nancy, Deb & TInkeroo & Tinkerbell (hope I didn't forget anyone) - I love your engagement stories

My engagement (non-engagement :rotfl2: ) story.
My first husband & I split up when I was 40. I met my DH the following year. He was a friend of my tennant's (I own a duplex). We became friends & eventually roommates. I fell in love with him right away, but he was younger than I so I didn't want to pursue it. While we were room mates we both dated other people & we were just friends. Eventually we stopped dating other people and became more than just friends. We talked about marriage but I didn't want to go there because of the age difference. Eventually we agreed that since we had been together for such a long time (10 years) & we were both still very happy we might as well get married. He insisted on asking my Dad's permission (I was 50 years old, I didn't think I needed Daddy's permission, blessing maybe :goodvibes )
We have now been married 7 wonderful years. He is a perfect husband in so many ways. He is romantic, caring & loves to cater & take care of me. I get flowers for no reason & he goes out of his way to do things that make me happy. His only downfall is that he doesn't like Disney & won't wear a Disney tshirt. But he goes to Disney with me at least once a year and encourages my pin trading. In short, even though my engagement wasn't romantic, my life with him is & I feel blessed to have found him.
