Words really can not begin to express what I am feeling right now. You are all most amazing people I have never met. :) As you all know,
I have been in such a funk and this has lifted my spirit more than you all could ever know.

I am simply overwhelmed by you all and your generosity and love.

I feel so horrible that I told you all that I would not keep designing yesterday. The best way for me to express my feelings is that I really miss our quiet little happy community that lived in its quiet little corner. Has anyone ever seen the movie Brigadoon?!?! :teeth: I know that with greater exposure - things will obviously be a little more bumpy at times.

I will of course be here to chat - because after all we are a family!! and I could never stay away from you guys.

I do need a designing break - but with that said - I really do still love to design for you guys - the people who truly appreciate it and are my friends. So if you need one of my designs I would be more than happy to pm them to you

If you click on my name in my signature you will be linked to my design gallery - but the images are not full size - I will have to pm you the full size designs. This gives me better control over my images and then I know who is using them!!!!!

Again - I can not thank you all enough - I really needed that - it is nice to know there are so many wonderful people that I know I can always count on!!

I love you all!!!

Kate

And we love you. You are our Queen. MidNite said it best when she said you and Denise are the glue that holds us together. We all totally understand that you need to take some personal time. Not one of us would EVER begrudge you that! But don't forget to check in here for a daily chuckle, and some Disney chat!

I know many of you are getting anxious, so I'm finally posting the "results" of our collection for Kate's and Nancy's grandmother's memorial. :sunny:

We collected an unbelieveable $483 dollars to donate to the St. Joseph Orphanage in Cincinnati, OH. :goodvibes

Thank you so much to everyone who responded to my PMs, whether you donated or not. Though most of us are strangers, we are one special internet family, and I know Kate, Nancy, and their family appreciate the DDA's overwhelming generosity and thoughtfulness. :wizard:

I hope everyone has a great day!
Amy :)

Thanks again, Amy, for coordinating this. :sunny:

Way to go, DDA! :thumbsup2

Have you tried the Berenstein Bear Chapter Books? My oldest loved getting these from the library when she was younger. They are actually written very well and I found them to be a bit more of a challenge than Amelia.

That is also a great idea. Are those too young for your son Glynis? My son just recently started Amelia. He had a really long, much harder book for the previous two months. It had a lot of difficult words (some even I couldn't pronounce, that were French, Chinese and Sioux, among others) so his teacher has been letting him pick books he can finish in one night during his 20 minutes of reading homework. I know we have some of them here at the house, so I'll pull one out and see if I can get him interested. Thanks for the advice.

Becky, these are fabulous ideas! I've stored them in a file for future use. Jacob is 6 right now, and can read quite well, but he just doesn't enjoy it as much as Katie. I know kids are different, and I don't want to force him, I just want to give him some choices. Have stuff lying around he might enjoy! Luckily the twins are younger than him, and they pester him to read to them.

I appreciate all your ideas!
:thanks:

Glynis,

My son didn't do a lot of reading at that age either, but there was one series he absolutely adored, and we all got a laugh out of it.

"Captain Underpants" by Dav Pilkey. If you google it, you can get lots of info, but they are absolutely hysterical with the "potty-minded" age group.

Pick one up at the library. He'll be reading it in no time.

By third grade he hooked up with Harry Potter. When he was too little to really read and understand them himself, we bought all of them on tape (most libraries carry them also) from e-bay and he used to listen. The rule was that he had to read along with it. The man who reads them does an amazing job and they are unabridged so they follow along word for word.

Now it's been HP, Series of Unfortunate Events, etc.

Jacob is 6, so Berenstein Bears might work. He's reading quite well for his age, as long as he can take the time to sound out the words. Thanks for all the suggestions.

From the description I read on the website I would say that it is a pretty soft consistency. Softer than a jelly bean or a gummi bear, "thicker" than jelly. Kind of like the apple candy sold here in Virginia.

It is yummy! Sort of a pasty consistency. I love it...

Kate! So glad to know you're staying. :woohoo: What was that about someone taking your designs for their own? I missed that.

I'd almost completely forgotten all about the Great Brain! I loved those books when I was a girl. I'm going to have to check those out of the library!

Now that I've seen that your son is 6, I have a few different suggestions as well. I have a 6 year old, too. He love the Henry and Mudge series and the Mr. Putter and Tabby series (all by Cynthia Rylant) which are very early chapter books. They may be a little easy for your son, but they are cute and quick, so they may encourage him to get started. Santa brought Miles a Chicken Little "cine-manga" for Christmas which is about 90 pages. There aren't a lot of words per page, but he absolutely devoured it. He also likes the Flat Stanley books which are a step up Henry and Mudge/Mr. Putter and Tabby.

I think that the Henry and Mudge books are about the same length/difficulty as the Amelia Bedelia books. They are about a boy named Henry and his big dog, Mudge. (There are also "Puppy Mudge" books that are for even younger readers.) They are very cute and there are a bunch to choose from. Mr. Putter and Tabby are about an older gentleman and his cat, Tabby. They are also cute. I haven't read Amelia Bedelia recently, but I think that they are comparable.

Kate-- I am so happy that you are still hanging out here with us! It's amazing how much I care about everyone here that I haven't even met. I tossed and turned worrying about you last night. (I hope that doesn't make me sound too weird!)
