I'm glad all of you had fun at the DC Meet. The pictures are great!

Is a Duck Tour a land and water tour?
Yes. It is essentially a boat on wheels that drives around the city, and then launches into the river via a boat dock. You really just drive down the ramp out onto the water. Elin is on a mission to do one in every city that offers them. She has now done Boston and DC, and goes to Savannah in December.

You should be able to just copy the properties and upload it to your avatar now.

Tu, Wed, Th are good for me. The Perimeter area is good for me. Is there still a Mick's at Perimeter??

Lynn

I think so, but I'll ask John. There's some new good places across from Perimeter next to the new Super Target too.

Thanks! How's the move stuff going? How's Phil coping? I know you are sooooooo excited to finally be moving "home".

ETA: just read a little further. I'm so sad I won't get to meet you and Terra in October. But I understand tight finances and cancelling. (still sad, though!)

I'm sad too! That's why I'm still holding out. First a near miss last year and now a last minute miss this year. It's getting to me too much! Plus, I was really looking forward to Halloween. Luckily, Terra seems to be okay with the promise of Christmas time.

The moving is going okay. I still have to price out all of the logistics, but I think I have the basic plan. Now I just need boxes so that I can start the big sorting process. Phil is doing pretty well. I think that he is getting burnt out on SAH-Daddy-ness so will be ready to switch roles. And needless to say I am REALLY ready to switch roles. Less than one month to go!!

They have a duck ride at Stone Mountain Park. You can hear them coming down the road with those duck bills in their mouths.

So, while you guys were having fun in DC, here's what I did last night:

Bet you didn't know I was a rock star! :rotfl: :lmao: ;)

One of my firm's major events of the summer is a Battle of the Bands, where legitimate bands (with at least one member of our firm in them) perform. It is a very LOUD, very fun, very tiring 7+ hour event, and it's my pleasure to coordinate the evening. We had about 450 people in attendance last night!

And for the past 5 years, there has always been a "surprise" act. The most infamous surprise act was back in 2001, when Frisky Kitty took the stage for the first time. FK was a band that arose out of a happy hour idea gone haywire, and produced 5 female members of the firm performing a song on stage, live, with real musical instruments, when no one had any sort of formal musical training (or talent). I was an inaugural member of that group, and after the raucuous reception (even though we were not very good - must have been the leather pants  ), we decided to repeat the act with 4 songs in 2002. We then retired on a "high" note.

Fast forward to 2006, when we all (and a few new members) reconvened after the 2005 "surprise" act, Sourpuss, threatened FK's integrity as the greatest all female band to ever perform at BOB. It was one final swan song - heck, it was 7 final swan songs!!! I'm happy it's over, but also happy to report that we were a heck of a lot better in 2006 than in the past - and we survived!
looks like you were having fun

We hope to go there in the next few years so we might have to try that.

I love seeing you guys having such a great time in DC. Love the Duck pictures especially.

Thanks everybody for the :cheer2: for my weight loss/new clothes. That was the first time shopping didn't make me want to cry in so long. I still have a long way to go but I think I'm going to do it this time (with a little help from my DDA weight loss accountability buddies) :teeth:

Anybody else going to the World or cruising in early Dec????

What are your dates? We will be there the 8-14, with MVMCP on the 12th

Moms of Kindergarten kids and up! Question about bookbags and lunch box.

  • We got the kids solid color back packs as I heard that kids can get made fun of for character back packs.
  • What about lunch boxes? Can they have characters on the lunch box?
  • Rees wants a jet lunch box and I found a good place to have one embroidered for him. Should I get his name or just the airplane? I'm thinking just the jet?

I don't know how much help I will be, but here I go:

Jacob has a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles backpack. He loves it, and the other kids his age all still have character backpacks. He starts first grade next month so just a bit older than the triples. I'd say go for it on the jet! It's not much and it will make him feel better about being at school.

Katie has had a character backpack until last year (3rd grade). That's when it stopped being cool around here. Now, she just picks a plain one in her favorite color.

I don't know much about lunchboxes, as my kids buy school lunch. We priced it out and for our area, it cost a lot more to make a lunch than to buy them from the school.

Hope this helps!

Their lunch box can have whatever they want on it. I got Nicholas what he wanted, which was Power Ranger's, backpack and lunch box. I figured at 5 years old it was a little early to push him into conformity. He has never said anything about being made fun of.

Thanks. We got them an orange, blue, and pink backpack from Lands End. But BK wants a Barbie lunchbox, Davis wants Scooby Doo, and Rees wants a jet. I found a place that can embroider the jet that looks like his shirt Paula made. He'll love it.

One more question. What characters are considered baby now and should be avoided? I presume Bob the Builder, but what about Thomas the Tank Engine?

I also sent these questions out to my triplet club.

To all the DC DDA'ers. WELCOME HOME!!!!!!! I have loved all the pictures! You guys look like you had such a great time!

Steffy - I agree with everyone else, you are gorgeous!!! You should have your picture taken more often!

The PM's looked like they were having fun with y'all. Hopefully, there weren't too many PM hangovers. :rotfl2:

Lindsay - You looked so good as a "rock star". And just think you now have an alternate career to fall back on!

All the swim meet talk sounds wonderful! I just can't get my kids interested in swimming competitively. They love to go to the pool and play around, but that's about it. Oh well, less for me to do, I guess!

Dawn - I can't believe that you are almost at the end of your pregnancy! I bet you are getting anxious for it to be over! I agree with what Denise said, snuggling your new little girl will make all the football games even better!

It's fun to hear you all gearing up for the football season! I don't really get into it, but the way you all talk, makes me want to give it a try!

Paula - I'm still praying for your SIL. Update us when you get a minute!

Tia - Sounds like you are not wasting any time with this move! Good for you! I'm sorry about your trip in October, but you have to do what's going to be best! Sounds like a Christmas trip will just fit the bill!

Clare - Thanks for posting the Disneyland Birthday information. Really interesting reading! Are you sure you don't want to hop across the pond for our DL meet in 2007?

For anyone else - I hope I didn't miss anything important. I did this from memory. I'll send along pixie dust and prayers for all of my DDA family! I'm glad that everyone got home safely.

Oh, one last thing: has anyone heard from Ellen (ellenbenny) lately? I don't remember her posting in some time.

Denise

I figure that it is up to them as to what is too young - I would get them what they want

I figure my kids will decide what is too babyish for them -
at my kids school they all carry character backpacks - up to Kindergarten -

I have seen a lot of HS students wearing characters -
