The DB Board, How do you REALLY feel?

How do you really feel about the DB?

  • I miss it, I liked it, I participated in the DB.

  • I am glad it is gone. Posters were rude and arrogant.

  • I liked it because it "kept them over there".

  • I couldn't care less.

Possibly, the people who are momentarily honored by being asked to Moderate, then jump in and see a lot more is expected of them then they realize.

I've seen Mods completely disapear from the Dis a short time after being listed as a Mod, yet their names stays on top of that board.. I surely won't complain about a Mod not doing 'their job" for an unpaid -no perks- position.

I understand completely what you are saying - but I believe that when you make a committment you either live up to it or resign gracefully.. You don't stay on and simply slack off on your duties.. Try to think of it this way.. If a person were to volunteer to drive cancer patients to their chemotherapy sessions, would it be okay for that volunteer to simply not show up because they were too busy with other things in their lives? A drastic comparison for sure, but the basis remains the same - committment..

I agree with C. Ann about the moderator thing but it has nothing to do with any one particular person, and wouldn't want Dee to feel responsible. A lot of moderators came and went, and most were there only to babysit. You could see a difference when they were active participants. IMO.

I liked, I posted there and I miss it. That was the board that was my DIS link in my favorites. :(

Me too!

I miss it. During our breaks here, I would check both the DB and the CB. It was a nice little break from my world. I did have a problem recently with folks that appeared to just be popping in to be rude and cause trouble. And I did on occasion report such incidents. I liked the fact that a conversation could be held, though, because it wasn't (usually) a fast moving board. I could think about a topic and come back to it if I wanted to.

I miss reading it. I liked to see what was going on and who had what to say and even some of the repetive debates that were going on. I realize it really wasn't a true debate board....but it was a cool place to see the personalities come through.

I am having a hard time finding a new routine now that it is gone.

I put I could care less. I read over there occasionally and now I'll probably read debates more often as they don't involve me clicking on another board and they'll just be mixed in here.

It makes absolutely no difference to me. On any given day, at any given time, a thread as innocuous as what kind of flower you like, or to blow bubbles or not blow bubbles at WDW, can turn into one of the most heated, name calling, finger pointing, offensive debates. A debate can/and will break out at any time on the CB - they have in the past and they will in the future, no matter if there is a DB or not! So -- it makes no difference one way or the other to me.

I miss it. And despite the warm welcome initiated by Dan, those really nasty comments made by some have left me feeling differntly about the CB. I wish it were not so, but feelings are feelings, not something controlled by logic. It could have been handled much better in my opinion.

I will miss it and the especially group who were consistently involved in the debates. I have much respect for 99% of the people I debated with over the years there...whether or not I agreed with them.

I really think the problem was lack of the guidelines being enforced. I was a regular there for years and I cannot even tell you who the moderator/s were for the last year or so...I really mean no offense by that, but when a board like the DB does not have a strong moderator presence, it is BOUND to get ugly. And, of course, it did.

I am not sure how I feel about the changes. I think it is silly to allow debates on the CB when most regulars here have expressed a wish for that not to happen. I was tired of reading a heated thread on the CB and everyone saying 'take it to the DB' when it really wasn't a debate but ugliness. The DB wasn't usually ugly. It became that way because it was allowed.

I just wonder how it is expected that the 'strict guidelines', regarding debates, will be enforced on the CB yet they couldn't be enforced on the DB? Just doesn't make much sense to me.

I used to like the DB, but unfortunately a few bad apples who wanted to personally attack each other ruined it for everyone who genuinely wanted to to debate. Now it's gone. :(

IA. I gave up the DB several months ago & haven't gone back.

Maybe because the mods of the CB are here and active. I know that when there was a big problem on the DB that it was necessary to come to the CB for help.

That is not to say that I don't realize the difficulty of the position, but there were many people recently just popping in for trouble, who were gone and the damage done by the time anyone seemed to have read the reports.

at any rate, the best part about it is not having to follow "debate" rules when posting a debate. :o :p ;)

It is MUCH more interesting to just "throw" a controvesial idea out there! Just reading throught the topics of the day give me all kinds of ideas!

No, really, I miss it. I liked the controversy. Didn't like the crazies who dropped by, however!

Exactly, and shouldn't ALL boards have a active moderators? Isn't that the point? They couldn't find a few people out of the 60,000 members to actively moderate the DB? If that is the case, I totally understand.

Yes, and that has also happened here on the CB (anyone who visits late night would know). That is why active moderation is so important.

Bottom line, IMO, the DB was obviously not a priority so it is gone. I can deal with that. It just stinks for those who enjoyed it on a regular basis. I imagine CBers would feel the same way if their playground was moved to the DB or another board.

SOM!!! so glad you made it over here!!! :) i hope you stay. :)

Is this a new thread about the DB, or the one that I threw a psychotic episode on the other day?;) (Just kidding)

I hope that a lot of people stick around.:sunny:
