The Davinci Code

It's a nickname for the reborn christians who attempt to convert you by annoyingly soliciting you with their bibles and paphlets.

They are conservative christians exercising their constitutional right to protest.

I cannot wait to see it!

I read the book in about 3 years ago and love it! And I'd read Angels and Demons about 4 years ago, and love it too. Digital revolution and the Deception point are good too.

But the movie :yay: I want to see it so bad!

I don't remember ever saying that there was anything wrong with that :confused3 I just find them annoying and it's entertaining to debate with them, because most of them are completely ignorant to the things they preach about IMO.

The Constitutional right to protest, specifically, is a right to protest against the government, not other citizens or businesses. So what they're doing is simply exercising the simple right of free speech. Thie distinction is important, and often lost on some people who erroneously believe that they have the right to disrupt other citizens in the conduct of their lives. The simple right to free speech extends to the edge of the speaker's mouth -- it doesn't guarantee that the other side of the interchange has to listen or in any way be impacted by the speech.

Gracias :thumbsup2

While I loved the book, I can't get over Tom Hanks in the lead role :confused3 . Also, when was the last time a movie lived up to the book. I will wait until I can get it on Netflix. I love the idea of Russel Crowe though.

Looks like the early reviews say this movie is awful. I was afraid of that.

yeah - last week one of the top Chicago Movie Reviewers announced that they were holding onto the TDC movie until the last possible minute for Reviewers to see it and get their reviews out. He said that was a huge red flag that their might be problems with the movie. Basically they said none of the suspense works, there is no chemistry or romance between Sophie and Langdon, and the suspense is almost non-existant.

On CNN this morning they were reporting that during one of the big drama moments in the movie, the theatre broke out into laughter and nobody clapped at the end - they all just got up and left.

I really wish Hollywood would learn that it is a solid script and good acting that makes a movie good, not just one of the few top name stars and special effects.

The early reviews did say it was terrible, but 3 of the 4 also admitted that they didn't like the book. Most common complaint was that it was "slow." And Hanks is drawing a lot of critism (wooden performance, no chemestry). Of course I stand by my assessment that he was a terrible choice.

I am not really going with big expectations anyway, because the movie never stands up to the book. However, I will say that as far as mystery goes, anyone who has read the book won't expect suspense anyway since they already experienced it.

I read The Da Vinci Code first, then Angels and Demons. I am glad I read them in that order, otherwise I would have been disappointed in DC. Angels and Demons was a better book all around, story, suspense, characters.

Now Digital Fortress was so predictable, I was turning the pages without actually reading. Very dull.

As far as Tom Hanks, I also agree that he was a terrible choice. He doesn't even look the part. Russell Crowe is perfect!

The hoopla over this is such a waste of energy-its a NOVEL!

I am really hoping to see some bible thumpers there as well, we had alot of fun with them when Dogma came out :stir:
On the "An Evening with Kevin Smith" DVD, KS talks about going to protest at the opening of his movie, Dogma. He says that he and his friend made signs and he was even interviewed by a reporter who though he looked familiar. He said that when his mother saw him on the 11:00 news, she called him and told him that someone who looked just like him was interviewed protesting his movie. THAT is classic Kevin Smith! And, worth the rental fee for that DVD. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I have to LOL at this one :rotfl2: , truly Kevin Smith. I had an English professor who loved the movie Dogma he even used it in his film class that I took, said it was perfect catholic dogma and he didn't understand what all the protests were about :rolleyes1

I read them in this order as well, and I too was bored with digital fortress although I liked all the stuff about the government and their control over the masses.

I will be seeing this on friday nite -- been waiting for a long time for this

I can't see Tom Hanks in the lead role. He's a good actor, but he's not the right one for the role. And his hair looks REALLY bad.
I can't see Russel Crowe either. He would be good for the action, but he looks like someone who would want the action and my idea of Robert Langdon is that he is a more reluctant hero. I also can't see Russel Crowe as a college professor, especially a specialist in symbology.

An advantage of reading Angels and Demons first is that when they mention things about "the situation with the vatican 5 months before" you know what they are talking about.

But, Russell Crowe played a good nerdy professor in A Beautiful Mind. He was a convincing professor. I pictured Robert Langdon as a man somewhere between John Nash and Gladiator. A subdued sexy, I suppose.

I read the book and while it was good it was FAR from the best book I have ever read. I'll see the movie but in all honestly I don't remember much except some nasty sex ritual in the basement that I think Sophie walked in on.
