My Disney Scent;
(and the story of how I know scent is linked with memory)

In 2007 I took my first trip to WDW since 1991. In preparation for the trip, I bought some extra toiletries so I could pack early. I decided to try a new scent of deodorant, Wild Jasmin. I packed it in my suitcase and didn't see it again until I was at Pop Century.
For two weeks I used that deodorant. (I know, where on Earth is this story going!? Patience.) When I got home I put it away in a cupboard and didn't use it again.
Months later upon breaking my current deodorant (don't you hate that?) I went searching for another in my cupboard. Finding my Disney deo, I used that.
Immediately I experienced a rush of memories -- I was waiting to get on it's a small world. I was flying on Soarin'. I was meeting the Mouse. I was standing in our room at Pop Century. They say your sense of smell is the sense most strongly linked to memory, and I believed it. That deodorant was the only product I had used exclusively at Disney. Others, such as body wash, shampoo etc., had been used at home too.
In 2008 when I brought Mr. Darling to Disney and again last year for our honeymoon I made sure to use the same Disney Deo. It strengthened the smell-memory link and now every time I need a little pick-me-up I start my morning with Jasmin Orient.
The first item on this year's Disney shopping list? Wild Jasmin deodorant.

this is the most unique and cutest story I have ever heard associated w/ a Disney memory...thanks for sharing brought a smile to my face :goodvibes

I'm a little shaky. My cheeks hurt from smiling. I feel like dancing or singing or maybe both.

I just got my much-wanted 8:05 breakfast reservation at Crystal Palace.

:cool1: awesome news...always a great feeling huh? and your other day to day plans sound good! :thumbsup2

How exciting, you're newleyweds! Congrats.
This is an adorable picture.

Yes we are! Although we will have been together for 8 years in 2 days time so sometimes it feels like we've been married forever :rotfl: and thank you!

This is the "final" schedule! And by "final" I mean "could change at any time."

Saturday October 1.
7:15 dinner at San Angel Inn, World showcase, Epcot.
A whole Epcot day including the food & wine festival.

Sunday October 2.
Remaining vacationers depart. Plane takes off at 8am

So we are staying for 8 nights and have 9 table service meals planned. One requires no reservations and another is not on the dining plan. Two big breakfasts, so I get into two parks before they open!

In summary:
DHS: 1 full day
AK: 1 half day (since it closes at 5)
MK: 1 full day
E: 1.5 days
U.S.: 1 day

And lots of time left to do what we want when we get there.

I'm back from a short hiatus. My grandmother passed away on Thursday and so I was fairly busy. I've just now gotten to waste time on the internet.

My grandmother was a courageous lady who had 8 children, 17 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She fought COPD for years and has recently been on oxygen 24/7. Her motor skills were poor due to lack of oxygen to her muscles. I feel a sense of relief now, as though somewhere she's assuring me that she can breath and walk with ease again. A lot of family came home and we managed to heal each other in the process. My grandfather is holding up fairly well, and some members of our family are staying with him for a few weeks to help him transition.

So rest peacefully, Nana. Your whole family misses you. We love you and will see you at the gates someday. :littleangel:

Sounds like she was a special lady that will be sorely missed. I'm sorry for your loss.

A list of our must-do's! (And by 'our' I mean Mr. Darling and I. :thumbsup2)

Magic Kingdom:

"it's a small world"
1478569591_f22d8d2e36.jpg

There's just something about this little ride that defines Disney for me. I think it has to do with my childhood... recap: WDW trip when I was 5, never made it back until I was 21, listened to my dad whistle this tune nostalgically for 16 years in between.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
149497_465397407988_508602988_5760167_6373715_n.jpg

What a great little coaster this is. It's my warm up ride for the bigger ones.

Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin
n508602988_947595_5577.jpg

So much fun, Mr. Darling and I just have so much fun here! Also I love the line up and the theme.

Cinderella Castle
n508602988_947598_6597.jpg

I could stand and look at this thing for hours. Just like i.a.s.w., it's iconic and it represented all my little girl belief that I WOULD get back there some time. I saw it in my dreams -- it was the wish my heart made.

Jungle Cruise
76946_465398627988_508602988_5760198_4154468_n.jpg

Apparently when I was 5 this was a serious ride. I was surprised at first, then very entertained when I learned that the cm's don't take it too seriously anymore. I love the commentary and it's just relaxing.

Mad Tea Party
n508602988_951608_3126.jpg

Had a ride like the cars in my childhood playground. Nicknamed The Barf Bucket. 'Nuff said.

Mickey's PhilharMagic
n508602988_947602_7888.jpg

The smells make me hungry and Donald makes me laugh.

Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor
155216_465400562988_508602988_5760253_5389416_n.jpg

The jokes might stay the same (mostly) but I still enjoy a good giggle at "That guy!"

Pirates of the Caribbean®
148100_465398672988_508602988_5760199_3168075_n.jpg

You can't NOT go here, amiright? Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me...

Splash Mountain®
156051_465398767988_508602988_5760201_2390752_n.jpg

The ride is mild but the drop is worth it!

The Haunted Mansion®
155435_465397307988_508602988_5760165_7890487_n.jpg

Quite possibly my favourite ever (ever) ride. Something about it... I love the catchy tunes too.

Town Square Theater (Have yet to see!)
I am so excited to see Mickey in the theater! I remember stories of Mickey's dressing room from 1991 and how cool it was to go see Mickey there. Something about the judge's tent never struck my fancy. I love the pictures I've seen of the theater so far!

Walt Disney World Railroad
n508602988_947594_5263.jpg

I love spotting the occasional real deer munching on the grass alongside the plastic ones.

Wishes
n508602988_951677_4874.jpg

Enough said?

The shows on the castle stage
155551_465396567988_508602988_5760145_6587852_n.jpg

I tear up every time.

And of course, the parades!
150579_465396257988_508602988_5760137_557491_n.jpg

Catchy tunes. Makes me wish it weren't frowned upon for 25 year olds to get up and dance with the characters.

Honorable mentions (OR the things that don't fall into the ride/attraction category OR the things that I could live without doing, but would sure like to!):
Sleepy Hollow
156817_465399302988_508602988_5760221_1648537_n.jpg

... for a funnel cake!
156637_465399412988_508602988_5760224_7934538_n.jpg

(and a great view of the castle!)

Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress
(Nostalgic, but that song...)

Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover
Enjoyable, relaxing.

Prince Charming Regal Carrousel
Adorable and romantic.

Space Mountain®

I admit, not my favourite. It hurts my neck and back every time! But I usually do it anyway.

Today is a sad day for my olfactory system. Remember the story about my Disney scent? How I wear the same deodorant every time I go to Disney?
For the past few months every time I get groceries or find myself at a pharmacy or department store I look for Wild Jasmin. I can't find it anywhere! So I went to the Secret website today and what did I find? They no longer have it. :sad2:
They have a little chart made up. If you used to like x scent, we think you'll like our new y scent, that sort of thing. What do they recommend for Wild Jasmin lovers? "Ooh-La-La Lavender". I hate lavender. I know that my type of deodorant falls pretty low on most priority lists, but I'm pretty sad right now.

HI

first I send my condolences for the loss of your Nana  My Papa suffered many yrs w/ COPD as well and was very sad when he passed many yrs ago...I love my Nana dearly and remark about how amazing and couragous she is like you said about your own Nana. Mine is an only child, has 4 children, 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren :goodvibes

also I love the polan on your AK day to eat at tusker house at closing :thumbsup2 brillant that is an awesome idea...probably won't be very crowded either!

Love all yours and Mr. Darling's picks for MK...I love many of the same rides for the same reasons...looks like an awesome day :woohoo:

lastly stinkers on the deorderant...I HATE :headache: when they change or discontinue a favorite product...hope you find something else you like! have you looked at other brands? It;s not remotely the same but Doves cucumber & green tea is real nice

Thanks for your sympathy, COPD sure is a pretty nasty disease.
The Tusker house ADR was a bit of a mistake -- I was thinking that the park was closing at 6pm and was trying to get a later reservation :lmao: I'm glad it worked out the way it did.
I'm so excited for Magic Kingdom! :goodvibes
Got an email back from the deodorant people, no chance of getting my scent. :sad2: Guess I'll have to pick a new one.

So random... but its the same way for me with my sunscreen. :) I never wear it... but bought it for Disney.

After we got back, I put it on one day, and excitedly ran to get DH. Was like, hey.... I smell like Disney!! He laughed, and agreed, but couldn't figure out what it was.

Muahaha.

I'm a little shaky. My cheeks hurt from smiling. I feel like dancing or singing or maybe both.

I just got my much-wanted 8:05 breakfast reservation at Crystal Palace.

Bonus? (Like it's not enough already!) It's on the day we had already planned to do Magic Kingdom!!!

:cloud9: <--- me!
i LOVE THIS FEELING. I got a CRT and BBB last minute ADR! Congrats!!!

Just joining in. Love your PTR so far, can't wait to read more!
