The Darlings Do Disney (TR is started!)

Yay! I can't believe it's getting so close. I need to get cracking on my own lists! :scared1:

I actually don't have a first day tradition, which is strange because I've been so many times. I just go with it. :rotfl:

Great travel day plans! :thumbsup2 Gotta make sure you have your caffeine fix - am doing the same before we board the plane!

Think we are hoping to start a tradition of going to DTD on our arrival day but will be able to let you know if it happens soon enough!

Me too! I'm getting scared that I won't have everything done in time! :rotfl:
I don't really have a first day tradition either, I've always landed at different times and therefore done different things.

I must have my caffeine... especially that early in the day! :rotfl:
I think I have done DTD more often than not on arrival day. It's a good way to relax after long flights. I can't wait to hear what you guys do!

My head is spinning.

The other day I stumbled across the new “Wild Africa Trek” tour at Animal Kingdom. I guess I’m not an awesome DISer or else I would already have known about it ;) Anyway, I really want to do it but the price is a bit steep. It’s $189 per person for a 3 hour tour and a little bit of lunch.

Mr. D and I had been considering a gym membership at the YMCA. It’s $40 each per month if you sign up for 3 months. 40x2x3= $240. We came to the conclusion that for now, it’s either the gym membership or the WAT tour and not both. And maybe not either, depending.

Mr. D says to me today; “You know that tour is the same price as a day in Discovery Cove with the dolphin swim.”

:scared1:

He’s right! It’s $199! Only $10 difference. And for a lot more too. A dolphin swim, all day access to the amazing snorkeling reef, the warm lagoon, the free breakfast and huge dinner, free Pepsi and snacks all day, plus a free ticket to either Sea World, Aquatica or Busch Gardens… wow. Sorry Disney, but Discovery cove is the better deal!

So now? Discovery Cove, the WAT tour and a YMCA membership are chasing each other around in my head. Oh as well the option “just save the money” is running around in there too but unfortunately that one is losing the race.

I should save the money. But I don’t want to.

My next best option is that I should get the gym membership. Healthy living, losing weight, access to the pool… but I keep thinking that I can do that in the new year just as easily. There’s only one trip to Disney until 2015.

If I’m spending anyway, Discovery Cove is the best option for the money. The problem? I’ve been there twice, so when considering DC as an option, Save the Money seems like a better one.

The WAT is losing. I would LOVE to see the animals up close, trek through the jungles of AK, suspend over a ledge above the hippos, sit at the raised platform above the safari… but for $189x2? I’m just not so sure anymore.

We don’t have much time to decide.

What would you do?

Lol my head was spinning like crazy at one point as well with all the choices! :confused3

Luckily, I think I have everything sorted now. In answer to your question I would go with Discovery Cove (only because I have never been and it seems like you get more out of your money) however as you guys have already been I think WAT might be a better choice - have seen pics of the tour and it looks great.

Thy gym would be at the bottom of my list only because I know I would only go a few times and then not bother going after that!

So you see my issues? :rotfl: Ahhhh we still haven't made a decision. Mr. D is pulling for Discovery Cove and I'm actually leaning toward save the money now! :confused3 Round and round and round she goes, where she'll stop...

Trying to get all caught up on everyone's reports.

:banana: Yay for 3 weeks, your trip will be here before you know it!

What a decision to make, for me I would do Discovery Cove, I love dolphins and this would be a dream come true. Unfortunately it is not in the budget for our family of 6 at this time. You've been there twice but if your not returning until 2015 you may want to do it now because you never know what will happen in those next few years, you may have another person vacationing with you

Honestly, that's another thing I'm thinking of too. How long until we have our own family and things are much different? So we're leaning toward taking advantage of this opportunity.

getting caught up here...sorry miussed a few posts :guilty:

first off for the decision btwn saving=gym membership OR WAT or DC....I'd actually say go w/ the saving...:thumbsup2 Matt and i debated the WAT too when deciding on a tour for our trip and went w/ KTTK (as you know)... the price is just too steep. I have heard mixed reviews....although DC sounds really cool, I have read a few nice reviews...your trip isn't super long, do you have the spare gap in time to fit it in? what would it take out of your existing Disney touring plans  I personally don't want to leave my happy place of Disney while we are there

re "defeated" you are NOT defeated...to lose those few precious pounds to feel better about yourself to fit better in clothes TAKES time believe me I know...making a life style change of diet, excersize and new routine takes alot of time...was stoked when I lost 1.5 and then the next day gained it right back :headache: I have just over 40 days and will keep trying...if you don't lose it before you go...at least it will be getting easier to keep it up to keep it off :thumbsup2

re Day1) Arrival....a plane change...din't know you had to do that...sounds like a long travel day but i love your arrival plans of just easing into your resort and enjoying some time at the Boardwalk :thumbsup2 keep a PLAN B in your head for any possible travel delays or room not quite being ready on time...we always take a carry-on w/ change of clothes, med's...for anything we think we need after we land while waiting on luggage to arrive...I found POP to be a bit slow on that, but our rooms were ready. Our your ressies linked to keep rooms by each other? :confused3 call GS to find out...

looking forward to hearing more of your day to day plans :goodvibes

I was thinking save the money. That's what I had decided on and I was 100% sure, but DH convinced me with some logically and emotionally good arguments. This is the first trip where he will be getting paid vacation pay from work while he's away. Also, he is in the army reserves and they're starting back up next week. My employer owes me this year's vacation pay too, so there's actually going to be enough money around to cover it without it hurting. At this point I would rather do the KTTK tour than the WAT, more for your money. We've done DC (me twice) and normally I would say that's enough and there's no need to do it again, but we both loved it so so very much (an amazing way to relax in the middle of a busy Disney week, I must say!) Our trip isn't too long, but we actually have two fairly empty days -- Thursday nothing but a 6:20 ADR at Epcot and Friday nothing but Richard Petty for the boys in the morning, no afternoon plans. So even if we do go to DC on Thursday, we still have Friday afternoon as an extra day. I don't love "cheating" on Disney much either, but I can't help it, I do love Discovery Cove... :confused3

Thank you :goodvibes I'm feeling much better now. PMS maybe? lmao, I was just having an off day.

We're lucky we only have one plane change! We live in Cape Breton -- an island which makes up the northern 1/4 of Nova Scotia. It's small and has tiny planes that don't go anywhere, so usually we have to fly from Sydney to Halifax (an hour flight or a 4 hour drive, we'd rather fly, especially with Air Miles because it's the same amount of miles from Sydney or Halifax!) then from Halifax to Toronto or Montreal before going to Orlando, so this is great for us! We will definitely be packing a change of clothes etc in our carry on. Our ressies should be linked, they're supposed to be. I could call and find out!

More plans today!

We were supposed to be camping today but my poor Mr. D has a terrible fever. He's feeling pretty bad. He's laying in bed with a cold cloth and digesting two Tylenol so I'm writing this while he naps. I hope he gets over it soon!

Day 2

Sunday, September 25.

I’m going to very much hope that we got to bed at a decent hour the night before.

7:00AM: wake up call. Shower, dress and get ready for a long day. Get out to the DHS bus stop by no later than 7:45 (and hopefully earlier!). Arrive at DHS. Get in early thanks to ADR!

8:15AM: Breakfast at Hollywood & Vine. Relax over breakfast, but hope to make it back out of the restaurant for RD! Won't be upset if it doesn't happen.

Head here first:

Get a fastpass. If the standby line isn't too long, we'll probably do it stand by then come back later for a second spin with our fp!

Next most likely to One Man's Dream, the Studio Backlot Tour and the Voyage of the Little Mermaid, with the order depending on show times and line times.

Then on to:

The Great Movie Ride! Hope for the cowboy scene!

Next for some thrills OR some food depending on the time.

Either these babies:

Starring Rolls for a bite to eat.

If things work out right, we'll stop at:

Lights! Motors! Action!, Indiana Jones, and Star Tours, so the show times will determine the order.

TSMM is so much fun, like good old fashioned fun. Love it, can't wait to get back! I can't wait to hear what you think of everything!

I bring news.

We have made our decision.

We are going to Discovery Cove!

We made a list of pros/cons for each option, we went over numbers and figures a thousand times, and then we visited the DC website and discovered that their new Grand Reef is now open! Something new! We spoke to DH's parents and they want to try DC. The decision took a very long time to make, was made with a LOT of thought, but didn't end up being a hard one to swallow.

Today we booked our tickets so it is official. Thursday September 29 we go to Discovery Cove.

Mr. D and I and his mother are all doing the dolphin swim, his step-father is just doing the general admission.

That's not all we got done today!

We also:
-Pre-ordered our Photopass CD
-Placed our Garden Grocer order
-Made and printed our itinerary
-Perfected and printed our packing list
-Finished our to-do list (well, for now)

Also, forgot to mention that on Thursday I saw an eye doctor and got new contacts. I like my glasses and enjoy wearing them and treat them as an accessory, but in the Florida sun I want to wear sunglasses and do not want to pay for prescription ones! So I got contacts.

I'm feeling so accomplished and ready to go now.

Only 19 days!!

:dance3:

We're in the teens! Hard to believe it's coming so fast!

Yay on DC! I've never been there, but it's something I want to try to do on an upcoming trip. I just need to budget the money.

You got a lot accomplished! I was trying to do some packing today, but I think I failed miserably. :lmao:

:woohoo: on going to Discovery Cove!! Thinks it's a good choice and can't wait to hear all about it.

Wow, you sure got a lot accomplished - even I haven't done some of those things yet! :lmao:

Yay on being in the teens and on 18 days today! Single digits will be here before you know it! :cool1:

re DHS day...looks like a great day :thumbsup2 the shows are one of the best things there...too bad it so hard to juggle them all in one day :guilty:...that is one huge sandwich at SRC... :thumbsup2

happy you have made a plan for DC and you are happy w/ it and man you were busy w/ getting all that stuff done good for you!!! so exciting under 20 days now :cool1:

hope DH is feeling better real soon :goodvibes

I was just getting caught up on your PTR and was going to say how AWESOME Discovery Cove sounds and that would absolutely be my decision. Then I kept reading and saw you made that choice. So cool! :cool1:

It's a fantastic place. I mean, I'm a living testament -- I've already been there twice and I must go back! I adore Disney, but if there's going to be one day of non-Disney, the un-crowded all-inclusive free-food Discovery Cove is the way to go IMO.
I was very happy with my accomplishments! Mr. D was right on board so together we got a lot done. I'm going to start packing today. Our weather is slowly cooling down and I'm finding myself in longer and longer pants, leaving my shorts free to pack! :rotfl:

I can't wait to get to Discovery Cove now. I can't believe we're going! It was just last week that I thought our itinerary was done.
You're so close! 6 days! I can't believe it!
