The Dance Mom Thread

Anyone in or around the San Antonio area with intel on the dance studios there??

We are looking at a potential (more like probable, but too soon to tell for sure) move there within the next year. Now, not only do i have to consider schools in the equation, I have to factor in dance studios too! :headache:

Thanks!

San Antonio Here! I have LOADS of info on dance schools here in SA! PM me and I can help you out!

OMG, what a nightmare. We're going to the EDA event in Myrtle Beach next week, and we had to rebook our flight home -- we planned to leave Sunday night, right after the awards ceremony, but when coach got the lineup...our girls are scheduled to dance at 6 PM and our flight was supposed to be around 6:30. Not going to happen. We're styaing another night. $$$$ ouch!

Well, we're rebooked and ready to fly down on Thursday.

Does anyone know where I can find dance smilies that I can use on a website or message board? I'm trying to find either a kickline or a smiley doing ballet or jazz. :cool1: and  and :dance3: just aren't making the grade.

I've been wanting to know this too! That would really be cute to use.

Just wanted to bump this thread up a little. We were out of town for Spring Break so I just got caught up. DD10 has her first competition with the 4 dance team's production number on Saturday! She also has her 3rd duet competition. We are looking forward to it!

Regarding changing tights...DD's studio has them all wear tan tights and put on whatever other pair (fishnets, black, pink, etc) over the tan ones. This works alot better for changing tights when they are sweaty!

Good luck everyone!

My DDs do the same thing for tights. Tan on first- there is no way to quickly change tights when they are sweaty and in a hurry!

Anyone have any experience dying dance shoes? My son is in a duet to "Ease on Down the Road". He is the scarecrow and his partner is Dorothy. How could you be Dorothy and NOT have read shoes?

So we need some advice/helpful hints/What to watch for about dying shoes. We have not bought the shoes or the dye yet.

We've always painted the shoes w/ the spray paint from the dance shop, although they've always been the hard tap shoes. I believe I've heard you can paint the leather/gore-style shoes, but I believe it doesn't last very long on those. (I kind of assume they might crack @ the bending points.) The good part is it dries pretty fast & one can would be plenty to paint & keep touching-up one dancer's shoes. I am not certain it comes in red.

Hi all!

DD's teammate dances as Dorothy for Ease On Down the Road this year and has red, glittered shoes. She took tan character tap shoes and painted them red with a special paint that works on leather. Then, a flexible glue and lots o' glitter. They look fantastic! It can be done, but I remember the mom saying that she needed several thin layers of paint. I'll ask what kind and post back. They have not needed a touch up yet.

My DD had a competition this weekend. They did well - some numbers placed in the top ten and all dances earned at least a first for points. I'm really tired, however - we had a really long day yesterday.

Our next one is a convention (Dancemakers). Has anyone ever done a Dancemakers convention? What can we expect?

We always but spray paint from a shoe shop recommended by the dance school (or we can have the shop do it). Stuff the shoes with newspaper and spread out newspaper on your floor to protect it, spray the shoes evenly, and then let dry. Make sure the spray is made for shoes. One year I bought regular spray paint from Home Depot and the color cracked and looked horrible. :headache: I'd never do that again.

Can I get a little pixie dust from the dance moms for a cheerleader? I'm in WDW with my cheerleader daughter and one of her teammates fell and fractured her foot. Her mom isn't here and she,s scared.

Aww the poor girl. I am glad she got the care she needed, and got home to mom now.

I just heard that a competitor in the World Championships of Irish Dance broke her foot during her first round. She scored very well in that first round, so potentially would have ended up a World Medal Holder. Prayers, hoping she recovers well and qualifies again in to compete in Worlds again. I don';t even know the girl, she isn't from our dance school, but I am a mom and feel for her.

Aww, I tried to watch the video in your siggie but youtube won't let me. I think you have it private.

I will post one, though. THe faces are nice and blurry, so you can't recognize people. My 5yo's first recital...after dancing for just a few months. She is the one on the far right. The only other beginner in this show was right next to dd5, but she actually is in her beginner year for the second time (so not QUITE a beginner anymore. ) When dd and the other beginner are on opposite feet, my dd is the one doing it correctly, she wanted to make sure you all know that!

Here ya go

That's so sad. Especially if she traveled overseas for the competition. Do you know what school she is from? Is she from the States?

taximomfor4 I :worship: to your skillz as a dance mom. I know you're an expert when you tell us your dd is the one on the correct foot. :goodvibes

Very cute video, BTW. Irish step-dance is quite a commitment. :thumbsup2

Thanks for letting me know! I think I fixed it. New to youtube!I am off to watch your DD now!

We went to Stage One in Arlington, TX this weekend. Did pretty well....two of our dances got the high point award and two came in second. The cool thing is that one of the dances got the Best Choreography Award for the session. Funny...I think it's the least innovative and complex choreography of our four dances, and the judges thought it was the best choreography out of all the dances they watched! I'd love to hear the reasoning behind their decision-I might learn something!

Congratulations! If ever you do learn something about how those decisions are made, please come back & 'splain for all of us who have probably stood there more than once saying :confused3 .

We're off to NUVO this coming weekend. DD's dance isn't going to compete, we've still got girls on spring break -- & have for the past 2 weeks  . DD & friends are very down, feeling like they'll never get back to speed.

My other DD is a gymnast, but will be retiring soon. After seeing the Floor scores, my husband and I said, "We just CAN'T STAND these judged sports!" Even out of our team's 6 girls, the girl with the most blah, undemanding routine got the highest score (and ended up placing second)....and it's not because the others messsed up. All the other routines went very well. We just didn't have a clue why that girl's routine did so well (it hasn't at other meets.)

My DH goes nuts at competitions. He HATES things that are judged subjectively. He wants to see a winner and a loser!!

I agree that sometimes you have no idea what the judges are thinking when awards are announced and don't even get me started about competitions where EVERYONE gets a gold or higher!

I am trying to teach my girls that as long as they did the best they could in that moment that is all anyone could ask, regardless of the final judging. But it is still hard on them when they don't place where they think they should have.
