The crazy things we do for our kids!

the most recent thing for us has been these pair of PJ's for DS8.

He is in a bit of a hoarding phase, and did not want to get rid of, or pass down any of his old, small, ripped PJ's. So, I cut them up and made one pair out of them that actually fit him.

I think you rock. :thumbsup2

My kids like to be surprised with their birthday cakes. I enjoy making cakes for them but I'm not an expert. Because they don't want to see the cake until their birthday, I don't start baking and decorating until they go to bed. Because I'm not an expert, it takes me all night. Literally.....ALL.....night!

I took my DD to see Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers (they were on tour together). No big deal, imo. However, when the Jonas Brothers went on tour by themselves a year later, my DD asked her Dad to take her. She said she wanted to be "fair" to us and Mommy already saw them. :lmao: I guess she's under the impression that we love them as much as she does.

Anyway, DH sat through a Jonas Brothers concert with his DD and pretended to love every minute of it. He was actually in agony the whole time.

I went crazy trying to get Hannah Montana tix a couple of years ago. Joined the fan club to get the code to buy the day they went on sale. Then like tons of other people logged right on when tix went on sale, only to be met with a "sold out". Then I tracked down other venues, and found one near my sister in VA. Repeated the process and actually got the tix, and then couldn't buy them b/c I didn't live in the area. :scared1: Called my sister to get on line to buy them, and of course by the time she could get them.. they were sold out. Then the day before the concert some tix were released to the public at the arena near us. So there I was down at the box office waiting as long as I could as the tix were slowly released.

The day of the concert I could look out my office window and see all the Miley World stuff going up, and sat there CRYING because I couldn't take my DD. CRYING! Yes, I knew at the time how ridiculous I was, and looking back I can't believe I went through all that much less let myself get upset about not being able to take my DD to Hannah Montana! Frankly it is embarassing, but I will own up to my craziness. I think I can safely say that I won't be doing anything near that crazy in the future.

That is such an amazing, creative idea!! Love it!

My daughter did a watercolor painting for the 2009 PTA Reflections contest, of course, she waited to the last day to get this all together;) As I'm looking at the rules, it states it must be mounted on foam board. So, there I am, running around at 9:00 pm at night, trying to find foam board and trying to figure out how to mount it so she could turn in in the next day. I did and she got it in within the deadline:)

Found out she one 1st Place in visual arts at her school:banana: She was then sent on to State judging.

Found out on Sunday, she took 1st Place in the STATE in visual arts:banana: Now, she goes on to Nationals:banana:

I did remind her that next year, she can't wait until the night before to get it done:rotfl:

Cute! What is it with boys and their superhero pajamas? :)

I'm now a soccer coach! If you only knew me you would realize just how funny this is! (think pink, nail polish and high heels) I was late signing my DS5 up for soccer and the only way I could get him on a team was to volunteer to coach!! So now I have been to coach camp and I'm ready to go ( thank goodness it is only 4 and 5 year olds) and guess who will NOT be late to sign up next time!

I know exactly how you felt. I felt that panic! I was actually able to get her the tickets during the early sale and couldn't believe my luck. There was a huge issue with scalpers that year. I was at work when they went on sale......I told my boss I needed 20-30 minutes to buy HM tickets so I needed to close my door with a Do Not Disturb. LoL!! She smiled knowingly!!

This is something my father did for me. I was in first grade and he was going across country to work with my uncle for a few weeks. Well, this was back in the day where you could go to the airport and watch the plane take off. Big mistake. I watched him leave to get on the plane and started screaming my head off and crying hysterically. My father was able to see me at the gate from his seat and couldn't stand to see me cry anymore. He got off the plane and said he couldn't go. (Imagine trying that today :scared1: ) Now his luggage made it and my uncle had to go to the airport to collect it and ship it back for him.

OH and he used to have to kiss my Winnie the Pooh doll every night when he tucked me in.

I'm sure I'll be doing the same thing - but my son is only 3 months old so we've got a little time yet :goodvibes

I know how you feel. This is how I became a cubscout den leader. If you knew me you would realize how funny it is for me too. Besides I really think a Dad should lead the boys. I thought I would do it one year, and a Dad would step up, but nope. This is my 3rd year. I have also coached OM.

I have to admit it has been good for me to step out of my comfort zone. I never would have done these things if it weren't for my kids.

From the Registrar for our town soccer league, I say THANK YOU!!!!! You will have a blast with the little ones. And, my tip for you, contact the Athletic Director at your local HS. Explain to him your dilemma, and ask to be put in touch with the Varsity and JV Soccer coaches. MANY HS kids are needing to do community service as part of their graduation requirements. And this is a great way for them to do it, and for you to have an extra set of eyes on the field, and have someone to help with drills, etc. I do this every year, and usually get 3 or 4 kids from the boys and girls team to help out.

LOVE the jammies!!

And this reminded me of a pajama tragedy that occurred in our house. DS loves Star Wars and got a pair of pajamas for Christmas in 2008. Loved, loved, LOVED them - they were his favorites!

Well, DH isn't very careful with picking things up...and this combined with a German Shepherd that LOVES to destroy clothing items naturally resulted in a Destructo-Dog attack on said jams. DS was all :sad1: , DH was all  at Destructo-Dog and :sad1: for DS.

So there I sit one evening with needle and thread for about 1-1/2 hours patching the pajamas. They were Franken-jammies by the time I was done if you looked at the inside, but by God they looked good from the outside. :rotfl:

DS was SO grateful - it was really a wonderful feeling to be his champion for that moment. He was thrilled and, despite being a kid who finds seams annoying (he hates it when his socks have big bunchy seams and stuff) he wore them without ever once complaining about all the extra bunched up seams I had to do to close the gaping holes left by the dog. :thumbsup2

So yes, I think I'm officially nuts. :rotfl:

Probably the most unusualy thing I have done was when DD15 was a toddler. We didn't have much oney for extras. I was at home with her and Dh was a low man on the totem pole in the Army. She LOVED Little Cesar's Crazy bread. Sometimes we'd go to town for groceries and they had where you would put a quarter in the cart to use it and get it back when you returned it (Like Aldi's.) So many people wouoldn't return them though, they were everywhere, so I'd go and return some and get her a snack of Crazy Bread and an Icee for $2. It was sort of our thing for a while.

Crazies thing DH did was take that same child, years later, to an N'Sync concert. I was supposed to take her but was in the midst of a lot of morning, noon and night sickness and just couldn't pull myslef off the bathrrom floor, so he took her. Worst part was it was his first concert and it always seems to come up. "What was your first concert?" You hear all kinds of bands and then he says N'Sync. Poor guy, but great dad!!! Last year I got him and his friend tickets to see Roger Waters so Imade up for it. :rotfl:

People say I do crazy things for my kids, but it's the little things they remember.

Every year on the first day of school and Dr. Suess' b-day we have Green Eggs and Ham. This year DD15 started school a day after her sisters and wanted me to assure her I'd make them for her again the next day. I was shocked, but thrilled. I suspect some day my girls will be doing the same for their kids.

When I was a little girl and I was sick my grandma would make me "muffin tins." She'd take a muffin tin and put a treat in each little hole so I'd get 12 little treats. It almost made getting sick fun. To this day I always do it with my kids (and my DH.) Agagin, even my teenager still likes it when she gets sick. (Side note, my grandma hadn't thought about that in years. She had surgery last month and I made muffin tins for her. I shipped them to the rehab center she was at. Her nurse brought her the package and stayed to see what was inside. My grandma saw and started crying. She hadn't though about it in so lon. She loved that I did it for her, but loved more to know that all these years later I still keep it going. (She knew I did it with he kids but had kind of let it slip her mnd.)

I totally think the little things are the best part of being a mom.

i am headed to WDW with a 7/5/3 year old this December, and it won't be the first trip for any of them. Does that count?
And to the OP: Bacon is a wonderful christmas present.

Earlier in the thread I posted no I didn't do anything. Then I went out to the garage today:

When DD was about to get out of 1st grade, she saw this bike she wanted, a bigger girl bike. Well, I didn't buy when i should have. I went to where it had been and no luck.

So, a few days before they got out of school, her best friends's mom and I went to a city nearby about 40 minutes, no bike there, but they found the kind of bike in yet another city.

We came back to where we live, DD's best friends mom picked them up and kept dd while I went to get the bike, almost an hour away. It was all ready assembled. Thank goodness I took the bigger vehicle. Then I had to hide it.

So, the last day of school, we had a little party and out comes the bike. She loved it!!!!! She was on training wheels for awhile because it was a bigger bike, but it was different from any other bike around.

It soothes my soul to read these posts and realize I am not the only crazy mom on the planet and that we are not spoiling our kids by doing these things but actually we love them so fiercely we would go to the end of the earth if we had too! Here is my story. My DD was pretty young and wasnt used to staying all night anywhere but home. She was spending the day an hour from home with my dad and extended family that came in from out of town.I am a nurse and got stuck doing a double shift and couldnt come and get her.She begged to spend the night there and said she wouldnt be scared.I agreed finished 16 long hrs and just got in bed at 1 am and she called crying that she was scared cuz it was storming!I drove through the worst storm ever took me 2 hrs!My dad thought I was insane and my grammy about had a heart attack when she saw us sleeping together on the couch the next morning! You know what I want my DD to know I will always be there for her! That was like 6 yrs ago and she and my family still talks about the big storm I drove through! But I know my dad and my grammy would have done the same for me!I scored some big points in the mommy catagory with my grammy that day!
