The crazy things we do for our kids!

When DS was about 4 or 5, he got some duplicate b-day gifts. We went to the store to return them and he picked out a stuffed crocodile with his store credit. When we got home, he told me that he would like to have his crocodile wrapped because it technically was a birthday gift. So, I got out the wrapping paper and wrapped the stuffed croc so that DS could then unwrap it.

Oh, and DS's imaginary friend has his own Facebook page.

DS has to sleep with his stuffed puppy Max that he has had since he was 1. I never let him take Max anywhere unless I'm there to make sure he comes home, so no trips to school for show and share when that used to happen, no trips to friends houses, no he couldn't bring him in on pyjama day to complete his jammies like his friends did...Max is gold and protected at all costs.

One summer he and a bunch of kids in the neighborhood were out playing and they all had stuffed toys for various purposes. All the parents were out front chatting and the kids were in and out of everyone's houses at different times. I didn't realize he had gone in and taken Max outside.

At bedtime many hours later, of course Max was missing. He then, in huge tears, tells me that he left him outside. It was now dark, it had rained and he "thought" he left him in a particular neighbor's yard on a swing. I called over and told the neighbor not to be alarmed, that it was only me shining a flashlight in his yard. Max was not there. I then called the other neighbors to see if he had been left at any of their houses.

By the time we found him, under the original neighbors' bushes, we had a full scale mommy search party out. At 10:30 I was blow drying Max's scraggly fur so DS could sleep with him.

My oldest has this little lovey, she got the day she was born from daddy, he goes with us everywhere. WHen we are out I count kids, and he is considered a kid, I automatically count to 5(we have 4 kids). She is almost 9, and he is still there all the time (at this point he stays home all the time except over night trips).
When my daughter was about 5, we went camping, it rained. I HATE camping in the rain, we were only about 30 minutes from the house, so I went home early. She wanted to come home with me, great, we pack me, and her up to go home. My husband stayed with my other daughter, and neice to clean up and check out the next day (we had been there a week, it was our last day anyway). We stopped on the way home to pick up the mail, and came right home. That night we couldn't find her dolly ANYWHERE, we searched the whole car (a million time), the entire house, I was convinced he was laying in the mud at the campground, or at the post office. I of course drove back to the post office the next AM, hes not there. My husband had searched the campground, we sent flyers up in case someone turned him in (missing lovely...looks like this).
I stalked the internet for days looking for a replacement, I was calling stores in california because they had a picture of him up on their website (it was outdated, they didn't have any left, and we live in nj). I called corporate DIRECT (it was a gund doll), had them looking everywhere, nothing. My poor little thing cried herself to sleep for days, my husband and I were both wrecks.
We searched and serached, and searched, and had many many sleepless nights, and many tears over this poor little lovey.
8 weeks later (yes 8 full sad weeks of searching), we were packing up to go to disney!! My daughter was distraught, how could she possibly go without her lovey???? Go to pack her clothes, and guess who showed up, he was in her room the ENTIRE TIME!! (and I swear we searched over and over and over), how we over looked him...I don't know.
So, my daughter tells everyone that daddy gave it to her when she was born, but mommy saved the day by finding lovey when he was lost.

Also, turns out this lovey was made in a group of 4, a lamb, duck, cow, and pig. I have since been able to find the duck, cow, and pig on ebay, and have purchased them all (don't ask how much, because the cow was WAY more than I will even admit to my husband). I am still searching for the lamb, which of course is her favorite, just to have an extra...but nothing.

(by the way, if you have a lamb from baby gund called floppums....let me know!!)

Going out in the middle of the night to my Mom's because dd had forgotten her "bear". She was 5 but I knew she couldn't sleep without him.

When my oldest dd (turning 33 tomorrow!) was 6 I waited outside all night, pregnant, to be able to get her a cabbage patch doll when the store opened.

Yes it's inconvenient to do some of these things but it means so much to the kids. Believe me they'll be grown before you know it and you'll wish you had that time back!

I've peeled skinless hotdogs because my kids "don't like the skin." Tedious.

My dad drove to my cousins house middle of the night about 1.5 hour away to pick me up from my first sleep over with them because I was home sick and crying.

I drove my DS7 .. he was 4 at the time to Tennessee which is about 10 hours away to ride on Thomas the Tank Engine because he loved him so much .
Did this two years in a row, my friends thought I was nuts.
:rotfl:

Every night before bed I dress "Buddy' (the build- bear tiger) in his PJ's and every am I get him dressed in his clothes. I strap him in the car everytime we go anywhere, and I set a plate for him at the table every meal. I did draw the line at ordering (and paying for) his own meal at dinner the other night!!!

LOL! I had a little girl in the restaurant I work in this morning who brought her Winnie the Pooh plush in with her - I got him a high chair, a little place setting, everything like that. When I came to take the order, the mom looked at me with a very weary expression and asked me to bring an extra order of waffles for the bear! I sort of scooted around to her and asked quietly if she really wanted those, and she said yes - so Winnie the Pooh got an order of $7 kids waffles!!! Oh, and of course he didn't want syrup - I had to track down honey for him!

Recently DS has decided that when he wants Mcnuggets, he doesn't want the breading (what is up with that?!) so guess who is stuck peeling off the bext part of a chicken nugget? Me. Seriously, without the breading, it's really just sponge-chicken.

My DD(7) received a Baby Gund Frog Dottie Dot blanket from her aunt when she was born. She holds onto to Baby Frog all the time. When we went to Germany when she was 16 months, we searched the internet for duplicates and actually brought 2 extra frogs hidden in our suitcases in case she lost Baby Frog. Princess Baby Frog (her new name) even went to WDW with us and came back with mini princess Mickey ears which are still on today! Baby Frog is her constant companion.

Those are AMAZING!!! My kids love tie dye but I've never attempted it. I'd love to be able to do a Mickey head one. Great job!!

The Mickey head tie-dyes are deceivingly easy!!!! I mean really, really simple! I thought "No way!!" when I was perusing the tie-dye threads, but I cranked out almost a dozen of them for our fall trip and some other activities. Give it a try...fun weekend activity!! :thumbsup2

I'm soooo not domestic, but I made six different costumes for the kids for our last trip (which included two MNSSHPs). I mean, I broke out the sewing machine I'd bought a couple years back and never touched.

A little pre story here... when I was growing up I had a best friend who would only eat sandwiches with the crust cut off...now at that time we were pretty poor and I thought that she was A.totally spoiled and B. her mom was a crazy to put up with this behavior and encourage it...I thought that at 10yo....guess who's cutting off crust these days? :rotfl2:Thank gosh it's only for 1 of them!

Ewww...gross! Haha!

My child gets her clothes warmed up every morning so they're not cold when she puts them on. She also gets towels and pajamas warmed so when she gets out of the shower she is nice and toasty.

My boys each have a lizard in their bedroom.:scared1: If you had asked me a few year ago, I would have said I would never have a lizard in the house. Now I have 2. What is worse there are live meal worms in my fridge:sick:, and crickets sitting on my son's dresser. I guess the lizards do have to eat. I do draw the line at snakes. If we had one of those I would never sleep.

Honestly, this thread is making me feel better. :rotfl:

DH thought I was positively nuts, but DD had ONE item she really wanted for Christmas. It was hard to get (think selling for $200+ on eBay) and I drove to a toy store 1 hour away to get one for her the Sunday before Christmas. I had been trying the local toy store for days, and actually drove there (40 minute RT) only to find the last one on hold behind the desk. :headache:

Anyways, thank you all for making me feel like I'm not the only one going above and beyond for my kiddos!

the most recent thing for us has been these pair of PJ's for DS8.

He is in a bit of a hoarding phase, and did not want to get rid of, or pass down any of his old, small, ripped PJ's. So, I cut them up and made one pair out of them that actually fit him.

I would do anything for DS14. The problem is, now he is old enough that I can't just swoop in and fix things for him. It kills me. So I think if you can do something for your children that you know will make them happy, you should do it. Because one of these days there won't be anything you CAN do. :guilty:

We are waiting to hear if he has been accepted to a magnet high school. If he doesn't get in he will have to go to a regular school, which will be a terrible fit for him. I think about it for hours and hours every single day. Ultimately I don't know what we will do. Maybe we will move. I feel like I have to come up with some other solution - just sending him off to the regular high school will make me feel like I have failed him.

We did the same with my DD's bear - a Classic Pooh blankie from Target. We got it as a shower gift, and started giving it to DD in her stroller when she was a few months old. She really took to it, so we went to Target & bought another one just in case. We rotate them out so they get equally worn in, lol.
