The Crazy Life of a New Floridian & Ongoing TRs

As soon as we got off EE, I was ready to take Ally on Dinosaur. When we were here in May, we didn't even make it to Dinoland, so it wasn't an option. So this would be the first time she was tall enough to ride it.

Now when Jeff and I honeymooned at Disney 10 years ago, AK had only been open for 2 weeks, and Dinosaur was called Countdown to Extinction. It scared us both so bad we swore we'd never ride it again. So when we came back last month, Jeff agreed to try it again.

He rode with his eyes closed the whole time and swore again that was his last time riding that!!!

So I told Ally to just remember that it's all pretend, yada yada yada, and she'd love it. She was a little nervous waiting in line, I could tell. So I joked about how much braver she is than Daddy and she giggled a little bit and called him a chicken.

So to prove that she rode it.....

When we got into our time travel jeep, I immediately put my arm around Ally just to make sure she was okay. Fast forward backwards (???) through the Cretaceous period and wherever else we traveled, like maybe the Bumpy period, the Knockaround period, and the BangMommy'sLegAround Period, and soon we were back in 2008.

I looked over at Ally and asked her what she thought. She hesitated a minute and then said, "That wasn't so bad. Let's ride it again!!!!"

I'm telling ya - she's my little adrenaline junkie!!!!

So off we go back toward EE to use our Fast Pass. We passed Nemo:The Musical, again, and she still didn't want to see it. "Mommy, Nemo is for LITTLE kids, I don't think I'd like it." No matter what I said, she was just not into seeing Nemo this trip. :sad2: Jeff and I just saw it last month and loved it!!! I highly recommend it for anyone! Even little girls who think they're not so little anymore.

So back on EE, for the second time. After we rode this time, we headed over to KRR to score a fast pass for later in the day. We passed by Flights of Wonder and saw that there was a 1:00 and 2:00 show, either one would work great for us. Ally was up for this show once I explained it to her.

After getting FPs for KRR, Ally wanted to head back and ride EE AGAIN!!! OK, this time the line was 30 minutes, but we really only waited about 20 minutes. After this time, my knee was hurting, my head was spinning, and I realized I was getting OLD!!!

AllyMommyAK2.jpg

Ally wanted to ride Dino again after this, so we wandered back there again, the wait was 40 minutes, and I said NO WAY. So I suggested we head back to Kali, grab a bite to eat on the way, and grab FPs for EE for later in the day.

As we were walking past EE, Ally said, "Mommy I don't know if I can ride it again. My tummy feels funny." Say it ain't so, Joe! I mean, Ally! Can it be? Could the wild thing really be taming down?

I suggested we grab FPs just in case, and she agreed.

So off to ride KRR - and by this time it was downright HOT at AK. I swear this park is always a good 5-7 degrees hotter than the rest of Orlando. I don't know what it is, because there's plenty of shade. I think it's just the narrow pathways, and bottlenecks everywhere, and people trying to walk alongside their party of 8 on a path that only allows 4 people wide.

Speaking of which, I think I'd like to start a "Park Etiquette" class outside every theme park each morning. It would be required attendance in order to be admitted to the parks.

Subjects taught would include:

A. When and where to NOT stop and read the park maps. Is it just me or doesn't it seem like common sense to pull your group over the side of a path to stop and read a map. Or am I being unreasonable when I get exasperated at Joe and Jane Disney when they stop dead center of a path with their stroller for protection, Joe pulls the map out of his back pocket, and then proceeds to spin around with his arm pointed out, narrowly missing knocking my mickey ears right off my head, while Jane reaches over and grabs the map from him, spinning the other way to point out the direction SHE thinks they need to go. All the while guests are struggling to pass to the right and left of Joe and Jane's family, who of course are oblivious to the turmoil they're causing, and I of course, am stuck dead behind them with nowhere to go. Except of course to all the OPEN AREAS OFF TO THE SIDES!!!!!

B. Shower - it's not just for weekdays anymore. Seriously, I can understand a bit of a pungent aroma later in the day, but at 9:30am??? The park has only been open for 30 minutes, what have you done in 30 minutes to cause you to sweat right through your Right Guard already??? :confused3 The afternoon parade is crowded and smelly enough as it is, so please give the rest of us a reprieve until lunchtime?

C. Line Jumping - OK, let's examine. There are two of you in line. And two of me - well, okay only one of me, but I have a partner, that makes two. Then the other 8 people in your party get in line behind me. Let's look at this mathematically. If the other 8 in your party cut in front of me, that sets me back 8 places, right? But if your first two move BEHIND me, it only sets you back 2 places, and you can ride with your party without inconveniencing anyone else. Novel idea!!!! Use it!

D. When the CMs say, "Move all the way to the end of the row," they are talking to YOU! Do not plop down in the middle of the row and expect everyone else to step over you. Who decided to make you king for a day? You do not deserve to sit in the center any more than anyone else. Furthermore, the Disney theaters are designed so that virtually all the seats are "good" seats.

E. Hey, you with the large party! Yeah, you! It is physically impossible for all 12 of you to walk abreast of each other down every pathway in every park! Well, I guess it IS possible, if nobody were walking the OTHER WAY!!! So break it up, let someone else pass. We have places to go, things to do, too, and I'd like to be able to get there and do it without having to wait for your highness to pass. Oh, and when you turn a corner, you don't have to cut it at the inside, so those of us who are coming the other way have to wait for you... and apparently bow as you pass.

F. Parade Manners - how about you scout out your spot more than 2 minutes before the parade starts? And leave us our space that we've been occupying for the past 40 minutes? And I can understand 4 people saving a spot for 6, or maybe 2 saving a spot for 4. But one person saving a spot for 8 to cram in at the last minute??? Enough said.

I know there are a LOT more rules I could teach, with some help from the rest of you who actually practice park etiquette, but they slip my mind at the moment. Probably because I'm still reliving the one smelly who saved a place at the parade for the other 8 smellies who joined her with 1 minute to spare!!!!

Where was I? OH, yes, heading to KRR....

This was an entertaining attraction this time, to say the least. We boarded our raft with a family of 10. The woman sitting off to my right was bundled head to toe in a rain poncho. I won't make fun of that, cause I've done it. But I also learned real quick that the poncho can't keep the water from coming UP into the seat. At most you can keep your head and upper body dry.

But it was so hot that I was looking forward to a good soaking this time.

But not our raft mate there. She looked at me with terror in her eyes and asked, "Is this really bad? Is it scary? Is it a big drop?"

I assured her that this was a very tame river raft ride, and she'd be fine. Her teenage son kept taunting her, however, which I found amusing. Actually, I find KRR to be rather boring. Now if you REALLY want to get drenched, check out Universal's Bilge River Rats ride. THAT is a good water ride!

But I digress. This poor woman was being heckled by her entire family. Ally and I just kept laughing at her, and when it was over, sure enough, she got the brunt of it, while Ally and I just got a little damp.

I swear we dried out just walking out the exit queue! It was THAT hot.

So hot, in fact, that neither one of us really wanted to eat, even though it was about 2pm by now. So we grabbed some hot pretzels and frozen lemonade. We were able to find a shady spot to sit and relax for a few minutes. Then off to catch the train to Rafiki's Planet Watch and Conservation STation.

I hadn't been out here since the park opened 10 years ago, and I remembered why. BORING!!!! But Ally did enjoy the petting zoo. Goats. Like you can't find goats at any petting zoo across the country. Oy vey!

Up next, Conservation Station and Mickey's Jammin Jungle Parade!

:rotfl: OMG- the BEST park etiquette EVER!!! Maybe we should all take turns standing at the front gates of all the parks, handing out the rules and Right Guard samples!! It is true, though, I recall needing a clothespin for my nose when I was watching the Jungle parade last June...:scared: :crazy2: SOOOOO GROSS!!!!!

My youngest, DS9, would not go on Dinosaur when we were there last November- he was terrified of those dinos!! Maybe next time....

Park etiquette rules should be handed out with park maps, just in a much bigger font! :thumbsup2

And they need to be available in Portuguese, Japanese, French and Spanish. I am sure I am missing some other languages:lmao:

I have to admit that I didn't move from my seat at the Nemo show when they asked. We were in an empty section and seated at the left end of the row so my DD could see the stage. They were yelling at people to move to the middle section, but I knew DD wouldn't be able to see any of the stage if we moved. So I didn't. :rolleyes1 Sorry (not really)...:goodvibes

And would it be so wrong to administer common sense IQ tests? I mean, c'mon, you don't need to be a rocket scientist to be a good guest. But you do need at least 1/2 a brain. And I can assure you there were plenty of guests at AK this weekend who appeared to be sharing one brain amongst the whole family. Of 12.

How about the kid (about 12ish) who was explaining to his family (and they were all agreeing with him) that fast passes are a waste of time for attractions that aren't very long. Not the line. The attraction itself. This was while they were standing in a 30 minute line for EE. The kid said it would be a waste to use a FP on EE cause it was only a 2 minute ride. It would be better used on KS which lasts longer.

OK, call me crazy, but let me check my math. Let's wait 60 minutes for EE, and ride for 2 minutes, but get a FP for KS which only has a 15 min wait, cause it's a 10 minute ride. So 62 minutes for EE and use the FP for the 25 minutes it would take for KS. Yeah! Makes sense! To the family sharing a brain!!!! :sad2: And let me tell you, they thought they had it ALL figured out.

I guess I"m just a Disney snob. :snooty: :rotfl2:

The only time we were in Africa the whole day was to board the train to Rafiki's Planet Watch. I can't believe we didn't even ride KS - oh, well, not this time.

Allytrain1.jpg

Once we got off the train, Ally stopped and hunted for some hidden creatures at AK's version of Kidcot. Then we made the 7 mile journey to Conservation Station. OK, maybe not 7 miles, but it sure felt like it! Did I mention how hot it got on Saturday???

I remembered the booths with the headphones where you could listen to the sounds in the rainforest and thought Ally would like it.

AllyConservationStation1.jpg

Yeah, not so much. She was fine until the bees started buzzing and once she heard the wild animal growling right over her shoulder, she looked at me and said, "Mommy, I really don't like this." So off we went.

We watched a CM with a turtle, and Ally got a tattoo for answering a question, then off to the petting zoo. That's all Ally wanted to see out here. So glad we drove 2 1/2 hrs for her to pet goats. :sad2:

Once we got out of here, and hopped the train back to Africa, it was time to scout out a parade spot.

But first we happened to see these guys. I told Ally it made me feel like Daddy was with us! :rotfl2:

MonkeyIsland2.jpg

We wandered back through Dinoland first in hopes that the standby wait for Dinosaur wouldn't be too long. It was reading 40 minutes, so we grabbed some ice cream and found a spot right where the path to Dinoland hooks up by It's Tough to Be a Bug. There was a spot taped off with only room enough for one row of people to stand. So we grabbed it, popped a squat, and ate our ice cream. The CMs were already beginning to entertain the crowd and we still had 40 minutes to wait for the parade.

But Ally would wander out to find CMs with pin lanyards while I held our spot. As long as I could see her, I let her go, and she told the CM where I was before she began her trade, and then they'd walk her back to me. She totally scored some awesome pins without me! :thumbsup2

This parade was so much fun! The CMs were all totally into it and the character interaction was great!!! Of course, the characters in the parades have such a way of making eye contact with every child anyway.

Beware, I took pics of literally EVERY bit of this parade. So if you've never seen it and want to be surprised, get out of here!!!!

After the parade, we raced back to Dino to catch it one more time. The line said 30 minutes, but we were on in less than 10. Score!

AllyonDino2.jpg

Take that, Daddy! Ya big chicken!!!! :rotfl2:

After Dino, we were off to use our final FP on EE. For the 4th time!!! I got off this time, and my ankle was bleeding. Who knows what I cut it on. My knee was all bruised up. And my back was sore. Luckily it was after 5pm and we were heading out anyway.

When we hopped the tram to the parking lot, we got off in Unicorn 21-29 but this section is HUGE! I could not imagine how we would find the car. So I just started walking. The wrong way. Ally starts pulling me the other way, and sure enough, little eagle eye found the car right away. If she weren't there I'm sure I'd have still been there when the parking lot sweepers came out to clean the lot! :rotfl2:

This child wore me out today!!! But we had an awesome time! The first thing I told Jeff is that he has to do the same with her one day soon. She is so much fun to hang out with. Totally brings out my inner child!

After we stopped in Daytona for gas, Ally was out cold the rest of the trip, which is a good thing because I do not drive well after dark. I only had about an hour in the dark so I just hopped in the right lane and kept taillights in front of me.

As we pulled into our neighborhood I woke her up so she'd be awake to help me with the dog when we got home.

She said, "Mommy, I miss Daddy." I teased her and reminded her how we saw Daddy that day at the monkey island!

She thought about it for a minute, and said, "Yeah, but we didn't see any chickens." :rotfl2: I knew then that Jeff was in for a helluva teasing from his daughter when he got home the next day!

ME TOO!!!!! :snooty: Kara, you are sooo funny-:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: So sad I'm missing your meet with Cammie by a week!:sad2:

So just change your plans! I mean seriously, how hard can it be? :confused3 :rotfl2:

Sure! I'll get right on that!!

Ally sounds and looks like a LOT of fun to hang out with- just like her Mom.:thumbsup2 A great day to read about, how long is your Nov trip for? Maybe you should come back in May when I'm there with Loni.::yes::

Actually, we probably WILL be there in May, at least for a weekend! We love Disney in May!!!!

What a great picture! :thumbsup2

She's such a ham! Don't know where she gets it... :rolleyes1

Great report Kara!:thumbsup2:

Ally is too funny ... gotta love her sense of humor.

We've never seen the AK parade so thanks for the great photos.

Got great news yesterday! Well, I guess I should first give you a little background.....

Jeff was planning a golf weekend here while Ally and I are in Disney in 4 weeks. All his weekly golf buds from SC were going to be invited to come down and stay for the weekend and golf during the day, and hang out at our new outdoor bar at night. But Jeff's sister needed a baby sitter that weekend so his dad had to cancel to stay home and help Jeff's mom with the kids.

Turns out that they all had the wrong weekend so now his dad IS available to come down that weekend so the golf weekend is back on. Jeff didn't want to have the other guys down without his dad. So there will be about 8 guys here that weekend destroying my house while I'm gone. Wait, did I say I got "great" news yesterday??? Oy vey!!!

But this way Jeff won't be stuck here by himself. Even though Ally and I invited him to join us, he didn't want to mess up our "girls weekend" which was sweet. And now we don't have to worry about him messing up our weekend!!!!

Sounds like EVERYONE will be happy in four weeks:cool1:

I bet the real reason Jeff didn't want to go with you and Ally is because his brave DD would taunt him about riding Dinosaur:lmao:
