The Crazy Life of a New Floridian & Ongoing TRs

Power outages don't bother me too much, except it gets so boring! Best make sure my laptop battery is charged so I can still DIS!!!

If our laptop wasn't ancient, I'd be ok too. :headache:

Gonna clean out our big garden tub tomorrow morning and fill with water. If I do it tonight Jeff will make so much fun of me. He is soooo NOT the planner. His attitude is "it won't happen to me." Well, I'd rather overprepare for something like this.

This is my DH too! Wouldn't it be better to get everything in from outside so I'm not freaking out, than to tell me things will be fine? Boys! :sad2:

Yea, we don't have those. :confused3 Thank goodness!

Angela - you should get what we get, but about 12-24 hrs ahead of us, so keep us posted!!!!! That is, assuming you don't lose power.....

And good luck!!! :thumbsup2

I went to the store today and bought so much water and Chef Boyardee. I now have about 50 bottles of water and 4 gallon jugs of water. And yes, there's only 3 of us too! :lmao: I figure we can always use the bottled water for WDW! I think I looked quite crazy because no one else was buying anything that really resembled storm supplies.

That's too funny that you chose to buy Relax riesling! I've had that before - I remember it being pretty good.

Wonder how well that web will hold up in TS force winds??? :confused3

You should rescue it and bring it inside! :rotfl2:

I just heard Dr. Lyons on the Weather Channel say they think (whoever "they" are) it's a possibility for Fay to stall near the coast of Jax and then turn back in. Here's hoping they're really wrong. Guess it's a good thing that the the beaches off the coast of Jax have been so cold this summer. I can't imagine it would strengthen much...

While I am a Penn Stater (where 1 of every 7 meteorologist have earned their degree including the founder of AccuWeather!!) ... I do hope that the weather folks are wrong and that Fay doesn't double back on all you fine folks in Jacksonville pixiedust:

We really need the rain here in NC but I need it to hold off until after the Kenny Chesney Concert on Thursday:laughing:

Seriously ... keeping good thoughts for all of you. If we filled the garden tub the two golden retrievers would be IN the water ... play time!!

Lots of pixiedust::wizard: pixiedust:

I love me some Accuweather!!! The morning radio show I used to listen to in Greenville/Spartanburg had Dr Joe Sobel on every morning. And a few years back all the "suits" as he calls the TV weather celebs, were predicting 2-4 inches of snow. Dr Joe said he wouldn't be surprised if we got 10-12. Guess what? A foot of snow in our back yard that day!!! Ever since then, I don't care what the Weather Channel says, I go straight to Accuweather!

And glad to see you're a Big Ten fan! Gotta love JoePa!

HOly cow! Have you seen the latest forecast cone? Fay is now cutting diagonally across the state, justting back out into the Atlantic, and getting stuck before heading back toward the FL/GA border and heading west. Really weird!

Jen - looks like you should be okay for your concert! :thumbsup2 Until they change the forecast track again..... :rolleyes1

It was so funny last night. Jeff told me that we're probably the laughing stock of the neighborhood, yada yada yada, and then he watches the news, and FINALLY he believes me that it's still going to be a TS when it gets to Jacksonville. I told him we could have sustained winds of 50 mph, he said "no way" and then Mr Joe Meteorologist says "50 mph" and Jeff is jumping up and bringing stuff in from outside! WTH? We've been together for 15 years, is he that clueless that he doesn't know how I watch the weather????

It took the local news to convince him that maybe it wasn't such a bad idea that I bought batteries and water. Duh!

I hear you about the local yokel weather people. We lived outside of Philadelphia until we moved here some 5 years ago. One of the biggest changes/challenges for me was having AccuWeather on TV for our local stations in PA and then having weather readers here:faint:

We root for all the Big 10 teams ... except when we (Penn State) play them:rotfl: JoePa is a god at our house:thumbsup2

Fay really does have a mind of her own ... as my DH would say ... "Typical woman.":lmao:

The forecast looks good here through the weekend ... but then again:rolleyes1

Sending pixiedust: to all you Floridians!!

I must say, "Go Buckeyes!" but I always root for Big Ten! Even Michigan! Until the last game of the year.... :rolleyes1 Jeff and I always say that's what makes Big Ten fans the best fans in college football. We not only root for our team, but we root for the conference and for our rivals, too! The SEC and ACC drive me nuts! South Carolina fans root against everyone else in the SEC and also against Clemson! Drives me nuts. Don't they realize that if all the other teams in the conference lose, it makes any of their conference wins worthless? :confused3

Oh, since moving to NC, have you picked up the accent? How about "y'all?" It's a great word!!!

Typical man to say that! :rotfl2:

Thank you! I'm feeling much better about it now. Not sure if that's a good thing or not.

Have y'all seen the video of that idiot kite rider who got swept up in the winds from the storm and crashed into a wall? They say he's gonna be okay, but seriously, what are people thinking??? :confused3

The ACC thing is HUGE here ... and yes it drive me nuts!

I have been known to drop "y'all" into a conversation now and again. Actually I don't think I have picked up the accent until I talk to friends back North. And my Southern friends still refer to me as a Yankee/Northerner:lmao:

You must be watching "Good Morning America" ... I saw that video and could not believe it. Talk about not playing with a full deck!

Thanx to JaxJags08 and other locals, I have a good grip on what to expect over the next few days, so over the weekend I stocked up.

I now have 2 varieties of beer, a bottle of Relax riesling (heaven knows I'll need to relax!), peanut butter, crackers, granola bars, chips and tuna. But if I drink enough beer I won't worry about being hungry! Oh, also stocked up on tp and paper towels, got paper plates and plasitc utensils.

Also now have 5 flashlights. Yes, there are three of us in the house. Don't ask. I panicked! :scared:

Gonna clean out our big garden tub tomorrow morning and fill with water. If I do it tonight Jeff will make so much fun of me. He is soooo NOT the planner. His attitude is "it won't happen to me." Well, I'd rather overprepare for something like this.

Now onto something so much more fun that hurricanes. Banana Spiders!!! I haven't seen one since we moved, but while laying mulch over the weekend, I spotted this little beauty! He's probably 3-4 inches long (back me up fellow Floridians!!!!).

Yikes! You know I believe you!

As a Florida newbie, I'm gonna make a prediction - since it looks like we're gonna be on the western side of Fay, I don't think it will be too bad. Unless it really stalls off the coast and builds up stronger than the experts are predicting. Cause this has been a very unpredictable storm so far..... That's the only thing that worries me. Here we are letting our guard down, and she decides to spin in the Atlantic for awhile and then make a turn and head straight for Jacksonville! :scared1:

Angela - how's your weather???? Are you supposed to get the worst of it tonight?

Angela - how's your weather???? Are you supposed to get the worst of it tonight?

Right now rain and not too much wind. The big news now is about the space coast and the possibility of turning back to the west. DH is supposed to go to Indy tomorrow. Noooooooooo. Hopefully you'll be spared. Stay safe Kara. :)

What is up with this Tropical Storm Warning???:scared1:

Ally had school today so hopefully Clay County knows what they're doing... :confused3 Although the county offices are closed - what's up with that? Wait, I guess it's just the county courts. So they don't want the criminals out in this unpredictable weather, but it's fine to send our kids? :lmao:

Got the last of the gas at our nearest gas station yesterday - I figured, what the heck, I've got about 2/3 of a tank, might as well top off. All the pump handles were covered except a couple that only had premium, the gal told me I was the last one to get gas. Whew!

Then ran back to Publix for milk, and all the bottled water was gone, so was most of the Chef Boyardee and other ready to eat canned goods, chili, etc. So I guess people are taking it seriously.

I cleaned out my laundry room really well, swept and mopped in there, moved all my cleaning supplies out, so we have room to "camp out" if we're seeing lots of tornadoes or what not. I've got candles and flashlights, and weather radio, etc, in there. I guess better to play it safe, right? Especially if this chick comes ashore in St Augustine and we're on the eastern side of the storm.

Well, guess I'm getting broken in, right? Here I'm thinking we're gonna get remnants of a TS, and now we may be getting a Cat 1 hurricane! What was I thinking?????

Stay safe everyone, and cuddle up with those kids!!! :cloud9:

I'm glad you're prepared, Kara. Hopefully it will slow down before it gets to you. Stay Safe!

Hopefully you'll just get rain like we have so far. Although it sounds like you're more than prepared. :thumbsup2

I can't believe they didn't close Ally's school! I'm sure everything will be fine and they'll probably close it tomorrow. But really - isn't it better to just be safe? I can't believe that there is anything going on today that can't be made up over the upcoming, long school year! Glad to hear your prepared! Stay safe!

All I can assume is that today's weather is not safe for Clay Co judges and criminals, but it's fine for kids! :confused3 Seriously, what is up with that?

Still waiting to see what Fay does. Really weird. I just hate the waiting and not knowing.
