This just turned up in the news:

Police protect woman who threw cat in trash bin
By QMI Agency

Police in England have been dispatched to a Coventry woman's home after a security camera recorded her throwing a cat into a trash bin.

The woman, who became an overnight sensation on YouTube when she was filmed stroking a cat before grabbing it and throwing it into a trash bin, is a local bank worker.

The cat, Lola, was trapped in the trash can for 15 hours before her owners found her the next morning, the Daily Mail is reporting.

Thousands joined a Facebook group to protest the woman's behaviour, many calling for violence.

Police are concerned for the woman's safety and posted two officers at her house. They also defended the fact she hasn't been arrested.

"Coventry police have not arrested the woman because she has not committed a criminal offence," police told the newspaper.

"Coventry police are making sure the woman is okay as we would with any other member of the community given what has happened."

Thoughts?

I have no tolerance for people who abuse children, the elderly or animals.

I would suspect she has mental health issues. Glad the kitty is ok.

That was my thought, too, but wow... some people go crazy in nice or at least relatively harmless ways. Other people, it seems, just get mean.

I'm also in awe of the strength of the public reaction. I mean, sure, I'm highly amused at the thought of that woman stuck head down in a bin with her legs kicking in the air, but I'd never actually DO it. And I'd certainly never wish physical harm on her.

Sorry...cretins that abuse animals make me crazy. Mentally unstable or not, I haven't an ounce of sympathy or understanding for her.

I say put her in the trash for 15 hours and she how she likes it.

Appropriate. Sounds like that's right where she belongs.

I wonder if she was doing it in a mean way, though. It looked like she had white hair? Maybe she has dementia or something.

I just don't get this. Maybe because I watched my grandmother suffer dementia and I know before it struck her, she was a completely different human being.

I'm waiting to see how this plays out, but my thinking is that it's highly unlikely that she has dementia if she's gainfully employed in a local bank.

In this case - at least from my perspective - "mentally unstable" is just another word for cruel. Hence, my lack of sympathy.

Ah, didn't see that local bank worker bit.

It will be interesting to hear more about it.

It's just so strange. She was so casual about it...stopped to pet the cat...looked over her shoulder and then picked the cat up and put it in the bin...and then off on her way again. Didn't look angry or agitated. Just like she was throwing out a piece of trash. She definitely needs to be looked at by a mental health professional. If I was her employer I'd be talking to human resources too.

If you notice on the video, she looked around to make sure no one was watching her first. She knew what she was doing was not ok. I hope they throw the book at her. There is no excuse for that behavior. I am glad she is getting the wrath from the public, she deserves it. She is a BAD person.

If she does have some kind of mental incapacity then she does not need to be wandering the streets alone.

However, since she seemed to know that what she was doing was wrong, I'm inclined to believe she's a terrible person and I agree she needs trash time herself.

Edited to add: I hope the owners keep the cat INDOORS from now on. It seemed to be wandering around really close to a street!

Well, the fact that she knew what she was doing was wrong would make her sane, but it doesn't negate that she might have some mental illness that would drive her to do this. I don't know if this is considered animal abuse, but if it is, she should absolutely be charged with it.

95% of cats in the UK go outdoors. Traffic in urban areas isn't anything like in the USA and people accept the risks in letting their cats outside. It's unusual to have an indoor cat here; usually they are only very elderly cats. Many rescue centres will not rehome an 'outdoor' cat to a home where they will be kept indoors.

Yep. I just watched the video myself and she's looking around for way to long, seeing if anyone is watching her before picking the cat up and dumping it into the bin.

And that kitty looked SO loving too... just rubbing up against her hand and probably loving the attention.

Foul woman.

If there is no law broken they won't be able to "throw the book at her'.

Its really odd. She doesn't look like she is trying to really be mean to the cat, I mean she didn't throw it in the can or do anything that would physically hurt the cat. Weird. It looks like she just thought it should be there. :confused3 Maybe its been keeping her awake at night? Don't excuse it, but would at least give some kind of reason.

Strange but I wouldn't really be asking for her head on a platter or anything.

If the cat was at its own house, why on earth did it take the owners 15 hours to find it? My cats would have been yowling up a storm, it wouldn't have taken 15 minutes to find them.
