The Contemporary Never Appealed to Me

But I made reservations for Mar 03 through Shades of Green for $89 per night with tax because of the price.

According to what I've read from these boards, the rooms shake when the monorail comes through, the cast members are not too nice, the rooms need upgrading, etc.

But I'm thinking of the plus side and I've come up with the monorail to MK in a matter of minutes, the beach and Chef Mickey's.

Please tell me whether to stick with Contemporary or try for Port Orleans or a Downtown resort when SoG's overflow rates come out in October.

jaye, don't believe everything you hear! Go, and have a great time!

The Contemporary never appealed to me, either, but last year when they were closing PO-FQ and PO-R, we were giving the choice of AK-pool view or the Contemporary. Since we were going in the winter, and probably wouldn't be using the pool, and for convenience sake, we choose a Garden Wing room at the Contemporary.

Boy, was I surprised. That resort is so full of energy. The CM's were wonderful... not one did we fine that was rude, grumpy or just having an off day ( and being that were there right after the Christmas rush, it was very surprising), we LOVED the rooms... very large, bright and cheery. We had a great view of Bay Lake, and could lie in bed at night and watch the Electrical Light Pageant. The walk from the wing wasnt' bad at all, especially when compared to the moderates, AS, and even the Poly and GF (depending on your building, and it all could be accomplished under shelter---which was good, because it was cold and rainy). We loved the convenience to the MK, and never had any problems at all with the transportation.. and this is a first!

Go, and don't look for problems... we have found that those who choose to have a good time, do! Just remember, you can't control everything... look for the magic.. you will find it!:)

I loved the Contemp. back in September of 2001. Our room didn't shake, we were on the bay side. Loved watching the water pageant every night from our balcony. Castmembers were very nice. Room was huge and comfy, we couldn't hear noise or toilets flushing (of course it was 2 weeks after 9/11, not many people were there). The arcade was awesome. It was very cool to roll out of bed, go to Chef Mickey's and walk to the MK in 10 min. for early entry. I hope you enjoy your stay.

No way would I pass this resort up for that price!

I don't think you'll get a tower room, and the garden wings don't shake. Plus, you can WALK to MK faster than you can ride the monorail -- now that's a good location!

We stayed at the Contemporary this past New Year's, and I *LOVED* the place! It has always been my dream to stay there, and I finally got to experience it! We had a Magic Kingdom View room on the 12th floor (club level) of the Tower - cool room and beautiful view! Every staff member I spoke to was very friendly and helpful. I would not hesitate to return to the Contemporary (the problem is finding availability there!).

Wow, that's the best price I've ever heard for contemporary. I thought I did good one time at $120.00.
It is our favorite resort. The rooms are the roomiest. I've stayed at FWL and Polynesian. The day bed is very comfortable. We actually request the north tower, parking lot view, third floor, (second is okay too) near the elevator toward the tower. You can see the fireworks from your room at night and kids love watching the monorail go in and out of the tower.
If that's a tower price, double wow, we've never dropped the dough for that.
My kids say, it's where the monorail lives.

have fun.

We love the Contemporary. If we could get $89 a night for it, my son would want to live there. It is a fantastic resort (in my opinion) and I've never experienced a bad CM there (so far). This next trip will be our first time in the tower, so all of our past experience was in the wings. Go and enjoy!

Jaye the Contemporary is a wonderful resort! If you are getting the SOG discount you will likely be put into a wing room. They certainly don't shake since they are not built around the monorail. I've never encountered any rude cast members there. Everyone I saw from check in to housekeeping was wonderful!
The location is great and I loved the pool since it was spacious. The beach is also quite nice.
Sometimes people go with the wrong attitude and look for stuff to pick on. I'm not directing this at you but sometimes people who complain about cast members are the ones that give attitude to cast members. They are people too. I've always found being nice to them gets you better service. It has always worked for me.

Go, enjoy and have a great time!

If you want to be close to the MK, the Contemporary is in a great location. Despite being so close, however, I believe the resort monorail goes in the opposite direction and stops at the Poly and the GF before reaching the MK --- still not a long ride, but not just a couple minutes. We stayed in the North wing and it was about 7 minutes walk to the MK entrance.

Rooms are huge, which is good for families.

It's also great to be able to get on the monorail and visit one of the MK resorts for a meal. There's a big selection of full service restaurants available, which we like, but that's not always important to others.

We also love the boat to WL or FW for a meal or a walk. And, there's always the spectacular view of the MK fireworks from the lookouts on the top floor. All those things would be available to you, even if you weren't staying there, but are nice.

We had a great vacation when we stayed there and I wouldn't discourage ANYONE from staying there, but we just like the theme and the 'feel' of some of the other resorts better --- strictly a matter of personal taste. If I got that rate, I'd stay there in a heartbeat! Have a great trip!

You guys are getting me SO excited!:D We will be staying there at the beginning of November thru SoG.

I'll be the lone dissenter and say that I would stay at POR any day over the Contemporary, but that's my opinion. I love POR and was totally unimpressed with the Contemporary. We received poor service all around. However, what really matters is you. For this price and the convenience to Magic Kingdom, this may be the hotel for you. Whatever you decide - enjoy! It's your vacation!!:p

We've never stayed at the Contemporary but to say that we spent a lot of time there when we stayed at the Polynesian is a major understatement. The CM's were always real nice to us, the restaurants are fun and you have a huge arcade. Plus I feel like staying in any of the monorail resorts is almost like staying in one huge resort tied by monorail since it's so easy to hop to the other two resorts.

I would love to stay there at that price and would love to get a report if you choose to try it. Remember it's all Disney!

The deal is that the SOG movement allows people to get the Contemporary at $89.00 per night compared to the rates at the Poly. We will defently do the Contemporary this time but do agree that what we have seen at the Poly the theaming is COOL and we do want to stay there sometime. I did stay at a tower room in '75 and back then the rooms were COOL but I do know that the resort was new then.

Actually the CR does not appeal to alot of people which is GREAT cause it is actually a WELL kept SECRET! SHHHH! It is our favorite resort. Always has been, and we have stayed every where with the exception of all stars & cs.

Yes, 1 floor of the tower actually has a minimal vibration to it. it is the floor directly over the monorail I think 6th floor. And we only notice it on take off and when we were in bed cause of the motion on the bed it is actually caused by the wind movement of the train not the the train itself. I never felt it on the 6th floor over the resturant area only over the shop area, thou.

CR is a big city kinda feel to it, lot of coming & going activities, lots to do a huge game center, large lobby, many shops, great marnia, nice pools, great beach.

oh no, I forgot its a secret , so I will just say, we are heart broken we could not get ressies this year cause of being sold out! for our dates, (the nerve).

Have a great time, you will really love the CR, go with an open mind and enjoy the "campy" decore' , we do.

MKY  :earseek:

We're staying at the contemporary for the 1st time in December. we've stayed at ASM and POR (also when it was Dixie Landings) we're looking forward to staying at a monorail hotel this time. we're staying there because dh has a conference there. i don't know if we'll get a tower or garden wing room. my question is, what sort of view can we expect from a garden wing room? what should we request? is it possible to see the fireworks from a garden wing room? can you see the EWP from a tower room? is it possible to see the fireworks AND the EWP from the same room (or are they on opposite sides of the hotel)?

If your in the tower, that is a category of room unless you get a complimentary upgrade. there is 2 sides of the tower and they are the same price. Magic kingdom side, sees park & fireworks, you can watch electrical parade in front of mk, but its at an angle. but you can also see it in fron of poly and gf at points also. Then the bay side of tower sees the electrical parade entirely. all tower rooms have balconies.

Garden ask for the bay view you over look the lake and it is really pretty to look out. sog is in the north garden and non-sog is in the south (closer to wl) (closer to pool). south also can have a pool view. the 1st floors all have patios the 2nd and 3rd floor do not have balcony. Some rooms can see electrical parade. You can see parade from beach.

The tower has roof acess and you can go to roof and see fireworks, and parades and whatever you want!

We stayed at Contemporary a number of years ago.....we didn't notice any shaking, we were in a garden wing which is where SOG goes I think. you can't beat the location especially for MK, transporation very convenient....its BIG tho, my recollections are of lots of people.....this is especially noticable if you've stayed at SOG....again several years ago, no problem with staff other then persisting (after requesting otherwise) in wanting to clean room in afternoon when we wanted the kids to have downtime...Greg

We stayed at the Contemporary in 2000 and we LOVED it!!! We were in the North Garden Wing, 2nd Floor, and we could see the fireworks from our window! The staff was very nice, and we enjoyed the walk to the MK, and we'd hop on the monorail to come back. The game room was a big hit with my older girls, and my 5 yr old's favorite thing to do was to sit by the TV right outside the arcade and watch the Disney cartoons! It is a great spot to people watch! The convenience of the monorail is wonderful, as well as the boat ride to Wilderness Lodge.

I would highly recommend this hotel!

I THINK THAT THE $89.00 RATE IS WITHOUT TAX, AND WOULD BE RIGHT BUT SINCE WE SOG PEOPLE HAVE BEEN MOVED TO THE CONTEMPORARY WE HAVE TO PAY THE APPLICABLE TAX ON THE ROOMS. IT'S NO TAX WHEN YOU STAY ON THE MILITARY PROPERTY.
