The Contemporary...I get it now. Though I still LOVE Disney!!!!

Our family (DW, DD3 and DD5) stayed at CR from 6/22 to 6/24. My wife attended a conference there so we decided to make a vacation out of it (we later stayed at CBR from 6/24 to 7/2). We were lucky enough to be placed in a newly refurbished tower room on the 8th floor facing MK. Overall, I agree with ScottieDog about his overall assessment of CR. I think the greatest thing going for CR is it's location. Walking distance from MK and in our case a great view of MK (especially Wishes fireworks each night!). What screams more Disney than a monorail that runs right through the resort? As a child, I remember saying to myself - I want to stay at that hotel with the train that goes through it.

Now the bathroom issue. I also had the same issues ScottieDog had. They're minor details but you think Disney would have thought about the details when they did the interior design especially considering the resort is also used by FAMILIES on vacation and not just conference attendees. Deluxe resorts are called deluxe resorts for those thoughtful "minor details". The sinks look nice and all but they are not very kid friendly. My girls had a hard time reaching the faucets to brush their teeth. Counter space is also very limited. We ended up not using one of the sinks (the one closest to the shower) for counter space. One other issue I had - not already mentioned - is the sliding bathroom doors do not lock. Not a big deal unless you want some privacy.

Now would I recommend CR to someone who's never stayed there? ABSOLUTELY! The location alone is worth every penny.

We had one of the newly renovated rooms and it was very nice...nicer than the moderate rooms at the other resorts I mentioned (BB, PO, Coranado). I guess my gripe is more with the "feel" of the grounds and such...it lacked magic, and at $350.00 a night I want magic! :thumbsup2 Never was I not aware that I was in a conferance hotel.

By the way, which moderates have you stayed at, and what about the CR keeps you so loyal?
1st of all my family & I have never stayed at any Moderate Resorts. We have only stayed at the Contemporary & a few times at the Wilderness Lodge.

What keeps us loyal to the Contemporary? Very friendly Cast Members, Chef Mickey's & the Concourse Steakhouse, transportation by the Monorail & being able to walk to the Magic Kingdom, services on the Atrium Club Concierge floor, if we have a MK view watching the fireworks, watching the electrical parade, the 4th floor pin station, Bay View Gifts & being so close to the Magic Kingdom.

Ahhhh....well we might be onto something here! :)

I fully expected you to respond that you'd stayed at all the moderates and that only after all your first hand experiences had you concluded that CR was the beyond critcism.

As it is though, you have only one other hotel to compare it to. This being, I'm kinda put off by the hard line you're taking on my trip report. :sad2:

Take Care~

PS- Give the Coranado or Caribean Beach Club a try...the staff is no less friendly, the grounds are gorgeous....hybiscus, gardenia, cannas etc... Also, there are white sand beached and fantasticy theamed pools (both with waterslides). As for the shopping, I suspect you won't be disapointed...really the 0nly thing missing are the character meals and high room rates.

I've never stayed at CR so I can't comment either way. It has been an interesting thread however. Thanks for all the pros / cons posted.
