Batten down the hatches and be safe, my friend! You are in my prayers.

Thanks Zippa. We are set here and as ready as we are going to be.

I read your letter to my wife.......she teared up.......(I can't believe you made my wife cry, whyIoudda) ;) Do you mind if I forward it around to some friends and family? I will give you full credit (and sing your Zippa D Doodah song for them as a bonus) :)

That was an excellent heart-felt letter. I am glad I have been so busy today because 9/11 is usally a tough day for me......there was another thread where someone posted pictures of the children who died on the various planes on 9/11....... it was like an arrow through my heart....... but this letter is helping to seal the wound.

Thanks for sharing those heartfelt feelings with us, Zip.

I agree with Mr Man about it being a life changing event. My first graders were working on an assignment, and I was near the door of the classroom. A teacher went running by and I stepped out in the hall and asked what was wrong. She was already at the exit and paused long enough to say that terrorists had flown planes into the World Trade buildings, and they thought more were headed for Washington. Then she was gone. I looked back at my students working at their desks, and thought they were all about to lose a very special innocence.:sad1:

I know what you mean (sadly, no emoticon exists for this feeling). My oldest son was 10months old when the towers came down. He is learning about the world around him and I am dreading the time soon to come when I have to tell him about 9/11 and the war. I wish he could grow up like me, secure in the knowledge that everyone around me was my friend and blissfully unaware of harsh totalitarian forces that want me and mine dead because we are free.

why is that a negative. One should be proud of their beliefs. Why are you or anyone else taking this negatively. It wasn't meant that way. :confused3

Trolls come from Norway. I saw some out of the corner of my eyes while touring the HeeganHagenjviskyogenbogenkanogenfitzjergen Fjord (skol). You should never look directly at a Troll. More importantly, you should never EVER feed a Troll.

But, if you are going to feed them, give them a can of this:

I have scads of this stuff in my pantry......the people coming to our Hurricane Party are in for a treat! :)

This is the reason why public education is a failure.

We have raised up a generation of intolerant, ignorant people who are more content to pick a he said, she said battle, and whine when things aren't going their way, than to suck it up and work to fix the things that really need to be fixed.

It has taken all I have to not rip a new one in a few people for their comments on that other thread. I'm off to a hot bubble bath and bed. I would rather spend some time talking to my DH before I go to bed, instead of trying to defend my "closed minded-homophobic and racist opinions" to a few who wouldn't know logic if it smacked them upside the head.

Maybe I'll just stick to the confines of this thread. At least sanity seems to reign supreme here...the rest get shuffled out pretty quickly ;)

They are fewer than we think. They compensate for their numbers by the "volume" of their posts (as in ear-splitting decibels). I just laugh and laugh and laugh.......it drives them batty......or shuts em up.....either way, I have fun. Try it, it is liberating...... :)

There will be some loons on the left who will sink deeper into their feelings of despair and hatred. They will not be satisfied or accept any progress unless it is under democratic leadership. They most certainly do not put their country first.

Yup. :thumbsup2 I think the worm is turning though. The selection of Sarah Palin has absolutely energized me.

Bring. It. On.

(not you Ike, I am calling off the "on-bringer" for you) .

I forgot to thank everybody for their best wishes.

Thank you all very much. I appreciate your comments and I also appreciate this thread very much. It is a nice place to hang out (Disney stuff is a bonus too). There is a very pleasant tone to this thread, and it stands in stark contrast to certain "other" threads. This is noticed by others too, not just me. I like that.

After all these nice comments, I almost wish I was going to do something cool and not just sit around the house waiting for the power to go out and all of the wives plants to go sideways outside.

:rotfl2:

Well, I tell ya what. After you ride through this one, celebrate by going somewhere cool and we'll wish you well again. ;)

Seriously, prayers and positive thoughts to your family and all affected.

This so perfectly illustrates why I would never vote for Obama, and believe he would take our country in such a dangerous direction.

Obamanomics 101 For Useful Idiots

Like many other definitions that have been rewritten by left-wingnuts over time, the term “general welfare” no longer means what it did when it was written in our Constitution and ratified by the colonies in 1789.

As Thomas Jefferson once explained, “To take from one, because it is thought his own industry and that of his father has acquired too much, in order to spare to others who have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association, “to guarantee to everyone a free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it.”

The preamble to the Constitution establishes the goal of the effort as to; “establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.”

Today’s limousine liberals insist that the term “general welfare” implies a Marxist view that the federal government has the duty and the power to “take from each according to his ability, and give to each according to his need,” - to define and measure out individual well-being against the will of some on behalf of others. This is not only very dangerous to the basic concepts of liberty and freedom; it is diametrically at odds with everything the founders formed.

Target Taxing “the Rich”

Aside from the fact that punitive taxation penalizes the most productive members of society and rewards the least productive, it won’t work. This is not a subject up for debate. This is very old news which has been beyond dispute for centuries.

As a result, Jefferson, America’s best known liberal, stated it very clearly for future generations, - “I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.”

Jefferson’s point is this, - such an effort is not only punitive towards productivity; it is a “waste.” It won’t work. It is a “waste” of hard earned resources… in terms of simple economics. But that does not mean that the effort is without purpose. It has a political purpose.

Obama’s Target

The Obama campaign has been very clear about their intention to raise taxes on two specific target groups, “the rich” and “corporations.”

According to their campaign, Obama defines “rich” as those households making above $250,000 in annual income, approximately the top 2% of income earners. They claim that this target group of U.S. citizens is “not paying their fair share” and that they must pay more in order to provide for the “general welfare” of others.

Obama refers to this as “charity” – though charity is usually a private individual act which requires the consent of the giver.

This is exactly what Jefferson said we should not and could not do. But Karl Marx is very much in favor of such a notion, and so is the Obama campaign and all of their voters who never fail to cast their votes on the basis of what their government can do for them in their personal lives.

Who Pays Taxes Now?

Is it true that the Bush administration has lowered the tax burden for “the rich” and placed it upon the average Joe?

No, it isn’t… According to IRS reports for 2001 through 2006 (last report available) this statement is not at all true. It is patently false!

The Top 5% of income earners pay an increasing lion’s share of all taxes in America.

2001 – 53.25% (of all federal taxes collected)
2002 – 53.8%
2003 – 54.36%
2004 – 57.13%
2005 – 59.67%
2006 – 60.14%

In each year since Bush took office, the top 5% of income earners, those making more than $150,000 per year, have paid an increasing share of the federal tax burden.

It is not at all true that “the rich” do not pay their “fair share.” “The rich” have been targeted for a very long time already. I’d sure like to know what definition of “fair share” we are working with here.

Meanwhile, the bottom 50% of income earners ($32,000) have enjoyed a decreasing share of federal tax obligation under Bush.

2001 – 3.97% (of all federal taxes collected)
2002 – 3.5%
2003 – 3.46%
2004 – 3.3%
2005 – 3.07%
2006 – 2.99%

To put this in terms that even the average modern liberal can comprehend, according to the HYPERLINK “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Census_Bureau” \o “United States Census Bureau” Census Bureau, the HYPERLINK “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Median” \o “Median” median annual household income rose 1.3% to $50,233.00 in 2007. American households making below this figure will pay less than 3% of all federal taxes collected, while those making above this figure will pay 97%, with the top 5% paying over 60%.

We have been “wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them” for decades now and the fundamental basis for Obamanomics is to do even more of the same!

Class Warfare and Mob Mentality

There’s a good reason why today’s Marxists have adopted the democratic process as its means to advance its socialist agenda… Unlike communism at gun point, it works!

If you place a gun to the head of most Americans, there’s a reasonable chance it is you who won’t live to tell about it. But Americans can be talked into a kinder-gentler form socialism and few will look far enough down the road to see where they are headed.

Democratic Socialists like Obama have been counting on this trend for years now and their mission is all but complete. Jefferson was right about a lot of things… “A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine.”

Defining “Fair Share”

When those who pay little or no taxes at all (most Americans) get to define “fair share” in the tax code, they will seek out a small target (the rich – top 2%) with deep pockets.

James Madison wrote – “Government is instituted to protect property of every sort; as well that which lies in the various rights of individuals, as that which the term particularly expresses. This being the end of government, that alone is a just government which impartially secures to every man whatever is his own.”

Property rights are at the foundation of individual liberty and personal freedom and our government was formed for the primary purpose of protecting and preserving individual freedom via protecting the right of every individual to earn and own property.

Yet it is the principles of Marxism that drive Obamanomics and rule economic policy via democratic mob mentality today.

Choosing the Right Opponent

Winning any battle begins with choosing the right opponent. Left-leaning politicians understand the principle of choosing sides wisely. No matter how deep their pockets, the top 2% of income earners are completely defenseless against the mob mentality of the other 98% of voters who have defined “fair share” as “from each according to his ability; to each according to his need.”

Karl Marx wrote that “democracy is the road to socialism.” Marx was right, at least as relates to any democratic society in which the majority of voters mark their ballot on the basis of gifts from the public trough.

The Fundamental Lie called Corporate Taxation

Corporations are made up of individuals. You can’t tax a corporation. Every penny in corporate tax is passed on to employees, shareholders and consumers, aka - individuals.

The minute someone says they are only going to tax “corporations,” they are attempting to conceal the very real fact that they are in the end, raising taxes on employees, shareholders and consumers.

Back to the Drawing Board

Once again we return to the topic of targeting America’s “rich.” They are an easy target. The “rich” have been a defenseless target of the left ever since FDR’s Raw Deal re-wrote the Constitutional definition of “general welfare.”

If 2% of the nation’s population paying more than 60% of the nation’s federal taxes is not enough, what is enough?

Would 2% of Americans paying 70% of the federal tab be enough? Would 80% be enough? Or are we simply working our way towards the top 2-5% paying 100% of the federal tab?

This is Obamanomics 101 in a nutshell. It isn’t new, so it isn’t a change. It is more of the same.

More of the same mob mentality, class warfare and punitive measures against our nation’s most productive and most defenseless citizens.

2% of American citizens have no means of defending themselves against the will of the vast majority of modern voters who have been trained to believe that they have a right to the earnings of others. Democrats know this and it is their power.

It is not enough to protect only yourself from continued affronts on individual freedom and liberty. You must be willing to protect and defend the freedoms and liberties of others in order to protect and preserve your own.

What the mob can do to only 2% of your fellow citizens, they can also do to you. What Obamanomics can do to 2% of Americans, it can do to you, and eventually it will.

Charity requires the consent of the giver. Give as much as you like. But taking from a few against their will in the name of the mob, is called tyranny.

Do you really have any doubt about what Obamanomics represents?

Today, my six year old said, "When you put wipstick on a pig, a pig is still a pig. But if you put red wipstick on a pig, you get a red pig." He said that to my mom on the phone. I heard her say, "where did you hear that?" He goes, "Fox News." I was floored!! I didn't even know he noticed Fox News. That kid has a memory like an elephant. My mom said, "You're a little politician, aren't you?" I'm going to have to tape him saying that. It's hilarious.:lmao:

I was definitely energized after hearing Sarah was the VP choice. I was not excited about this election at all. I figured the dems would be happy because either way, they'd win (OB or JM.) When Sarah stepped in, I rejoiced!:worship: I quickly contacted the local GOP and signed up to volunteer. Sarah is a real conservative who shares a lot of my beliefs.

:rotfl2: That's so cute!

One day my mom had my boys in the car and she happened to drive by a place called Liberty Tax. There was a woman dressed as the Statue of Liberty trying to attract drive by customers. My mom pointed it out to them and, when asked, she told them it was a tax office. She said my boys (ages 9 and 5) just went off on a tangent about the government and unfair taxes. She said my 9 year old told her all about how we revolted against to British because of unfair taxes and now we are doing it to ourselves. My 5 year old kept pointing at his chest saying "it's our money, our money, we should get to keep it" :lmao: I was so proud :goodvibes

You think they aren't listening, but they hear every word, and repeat it! :scared1: I better watch myself better from now on

OMG what planet is she living on?

Cause 1 of us doesn't live on planet earth, and I'm pretty sure I'm on earth.

And since when did John McCain get out of military service? Her researchers obvuiosly haven't informed her of his stay at the Hanoi Hilton:confused:

Don't you know, he was on a 4 year vacation. He was captured on purpose so he could get out of the fighting and live a pampered life with the NV.

Okay 3 things:

1. Charlie Gibson is a condescending creep peering down his nose. I can't stand liberal media.

2. McCain once again came off way more Presidential last night in comparison to BO. Especially when BO was in his own Alma Mater and had the "home team advantage" as he said. In that case - can the next Q&A be on a Navy Base full of service members??? - that would just be outstanding!

3. I watched the 9/11 special on the History Channel last night. 7 years later and its just as painful.

Oh...just wanted to add one more thing. I had to call my 12 yr old DD's principal yesterday. Seems her Social Studies teacher decided to use 9/11 as her venue to force her political views on the students, bash Bush, and basically yelled at them that they need to convince anyone they know who is voting to pull the lever for BO. She also through a few snide remarks about how the Iraqi people absolutely HATE our troops. I told the principal how incredibly angry that I was over this and he agreed 100%. The teacher will be getting called into his office first thing this morning.

ITA with your observations. Regarding your DD's teacher -- I would have been incensed -- I think you totally did the right thing. Unbelievable!

I was incensed. In fact - I'm usually the one who has the temper and my DH is more level headed - when I told him about this...he was even more incensed that I was. I'm curious as to whether the principle calls me with the outcome of his conversation with her.

I agree 100 percent with your observations!

On the teacher part, the only view I ever gave was to tell my students to get their parents to VOTE! Being from the Great State of Michigan, I'm currently pink slipped. I work in the inner city when not pink slipped. Voter apathy is rampant. Our school was a voting place for two precincts. One election they only had 17 people show up!

You are right to be outraged. She shouldn't be putting her views into their lessons, even if you agree with her views. There is a curriculum and she obviously wasn't following it.

I vote to have the next forum at the Naval Academy in Annapolis. Since BO had "home team advantage" this time, its only fair for JM to have it too.:thumbsup2

As for the teacher, send her on down to Iraq. My mother has a best friend whose SIL spent almost a year in Iraq with his reserve unit. He told my mom lots of stories about his time down there. And it was all peppered with how much he loved the Iraqi ppl and how much they did for the troops, because they really were quite grateful to them for getting rid of You know who.

Yeah that sounds like aboatload of hate to me:rolleyes:

OMG! Have ya'll seen this the latest poll numbers, from Gallup?

INCREDIBLE!

Battle for Congress Suddenly Looks Competitive

PRINCETON, NJ -- A potential shift in fortunes for the Republicans in Congress is seen in the latest USA Today/Gallup survey, with the Democrats now leading the Republicans by just 3 percentage points, 48% to 45%, in voters' "generic ballot" preferences for Congress. This is down from consistent double-digit Democratic leads seen on this measure over the past year.

As is true for the current structure of voting preferences for president, Democratic voters are nearly uniform in their support for the Democratic candidate in their congressional districts (92%), Republican voters are nearly uniform in their support for the Republican candidate (94%), and independents are closely split, with 44% backing the Democrat and 40% the Republican.

The new results come from a Sept. 5-7 survey conducted immediately after the Republican National Convention and mirror the resulting enhanced position of the Republican Party seen in several other indicators. These range from John McCain's improved standing against Barack Obama in the presidential race to improved favorability ratings of the Republicans, to Republican gains in party identification. The sustainability of all of these findings is an open question that polling will answer over the next few weeks.

The positive impact of the GOP convention on polling indicators of Republican strength is further seen in the operation of Gallup's "likely voter" model in this survey. Republicans, who are now much more enthused about the 2008 election than they were prior to the convention, show heightened interest in voting, and thus outscore Democrats in apparent likelihood to vote in November. As a result, Republican candidates now lead Democratic candidates among likely voters by 5 percentage points, 50% to 45%.

If these numbers are sustained through Election Day -- a big if -- Republicans could be expected to regain control of the U.S. House of Representatives.

As Gallup's long-term "generic ballot" trend shows, the Democrats held a sizable lead on this measure from the time they won back control of Congress in the fall of 2006 through last month. If the current closer positioning of the parties holds, the structure of congressional preferences will be similar to most of the period from 1994 through 2005, when Republicans won and maintained control of Congress.

Congressional Approval Also Troubling for Democrats

With only 18% of Americans in August saying they approve of the job Congress is doing, similar to the average 20% approval rating for Congress all year, the Democrats in Congress have additional cause for concern. This scant level of approval could signal that voters are in the mood for change, disproportionately hurting Democratic incumbents.

The last time the yearly average for approval of Congress approached this low a level was in 2006, when the Republicans lost majority control of Congress after 12 years in power. The previous occasion was in 1994, when the Republicans wrested control from the Democrats. In both of these midterm election years, the average congressional approval score was 25%. However, with an 18% approval rating for Congress in 1992, the Democrats succeeded in holding their majority in Congress. That was a presidential year in which the Democratic candidate, Bill Clinton, won.

The issues raised by today's low approval ratings of Congress are reinforced by recent Gallup Poll findings that relatively few voters generally believe "most members" of Congress deserve re-election. That figure was only 36% in July, much lower than the 51% or better reading found in recent election years when the party of the sitting majority in Congress maintained power.

Bottom Line

The new USA Today/Gallup measurement of generic ballot preferences for Congress casts some doubt on the previously assumed inevitability of the Democrats' maintaining control of Congress.

Until now, the dark shadow cast by George W. Bush's widespread unpopularity has suppressed Republican Party identification nationwide, as well as voters' willingness to support the Republican candidate running for Congress in their district.

Now that the symbolic leadership of the party is shifting away from Bush and toward the suddenly popular Republican presidential ticket of John McCain and Sarah Palin, things may be changing. This shrinks Bush's shadow over the Republicans, revealing more of the Democrats' own shadow stemming from high disapproval of Congress. The key question is how much of this is temporary because of the tremendous bounce in support for the Republicans on many dimensions coming right off of their convention. The degree to which the Republican bounce is sustained, rather than dissipates, in the weeks ahead will determine whether the 2008 race for Congress could in fact be highly competitive, rather than a Democratic sweep.
