Hello all,

Just checking in.....this thread moves so quickly I despair of ever keeping up.

I just wanted to share that we are now two weeks into our experiment with no cable TV (or really TV at all beyond DVD's for the kids).

It has been great! No stress from evening news or the omnipresent trash that represents the vast majority of the TV shows out there (with notable exceptions, DW misses Ugly Betty). But, we are spending quality time with each other by turning off the TV & don't expect to go back anytime soon.

Guess I need to write the networks and let them know at some point that they have officially lost us as viewers.
My TV viewing is way down too but the time is then spent on the internet. :lmao:

I do have some shows I do watch, like The Big Bang Theory, the Mentalist and Criminal Minds.

Hey everybody... just checking in and wishing every one well. :goodvibes

Guess what! I just registered yesterday for a continuing ed event in ORLANDO the first week of January. Leadership team features lots of creative types from Disney parks. The event includes a day in MK with some behind the scenes peeks, guided touring, and an emphasis on connecting with how Disney uses creativity (and how participants can use that in various settings). :teacher:

I'm so psyched...:cool1:
1) I get to formally connect my WDW geekdom with my job!
2) It's a business trip/expense! :)
3) The kids realy can't miss that week of school, but we may be able to work it so that DW can go with me. :woohoo:

We watch TV but it's all Discovery channel, A&E, Biography, History, Fox, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and My Friends Tigger & Pooh for DS, stuff like that. No MSNBC, no network channels. We refuse to watch them. We have a lot of DVDs and any shows we want, we just get the DVDs.

Tink, I want to learn how to sew too. I do have a sewing machine and my DD and I want to take lessons together. She really wants to make clothes for her dolls. I told her that we'd get hopping on that after Christmas.

I have three stockings to make before Christmas (got to get to that after the basement and bedroom are done) but those stockings are hand appliqued. I can do that, but use a sewing machine and a pattern? Never done that before.

if you have zero sewing experience I would suggest a beginning quilting class. You'll learn basic sewing techniques, cutting, ironing, and lots of straight seams. If you have basic knowlege but nothing with patterns, try starting with a Simplicity pattern. Those are the easiest by far.

I have 5 sewing machines in total. 2 are antiques that my grandmother had, one is my old one that I need to clean up for DD to use, the one I currently use, and then the one on my mid-arm quilting machine in the garage. I'm hoping to sell my mid-arm so I can get an embroidery machine. The one I want costs 9000 but hoping I can pick up a used one for around 3000. I'm going to miss my mid-arm but I can make $$ with an embroidery machine faster than I can with the quilting machine.

Hi guys. I've not been on for several days. My father passed away Friday. This, plus the fact that me and my DD have been sick has left me pretty bummed right now -- I haven't even watched the news since last Friday. I'll try to get caught up with you all but I am going out of town the rest of this week for work. Anyhow -- didn't want you to think I've abandoned you guys.

Sorry to hear this. Wishing you and yours the best during this trying time.

Whenever I am down, poetry brings me back.......

Sonnet 5, by William Shakespeare (or someone else by that name ;) )

Those hours, that with gentle work did frame
The lovely gaze where every eye doth dwell,
Will play the tyrants to the very same
And that unfair which fairly doth excel:
For never-resting time leads summer on
To hideous winter and confounds him there;
Sap cheque'd with frost and lusty leaves quite gone,
Beauty o'ersnow'd and bareness every where:
Then, were not summer's distillation left,
A liquid prisoner pent in walls of glass,
Beauty's effect with beauty were bereft,
Nor it nor no remembrance what it was:
But flowers distill'd though they with winter meet,
Leese but their show; their substance still lives sweet.

Oh AP, I am so sorry for your loss. You've had a couple of stressful months. I am so sorry for all that you've gone through. Hugs and prayers for you.

Uggh! It's too early for me to be getting Christmas greetings from anybody. :goodvibes I'm one of those scroogey types who bravely resists all things Christmasy until the day after Thanksgiving, then I turn into a big ol' sentimental puddle of holiday sappiness and joy.
I'm already thinking about what kinds of Christmas cards to buy. I'm ready!
Every year we send out picture postcards with a letter. Last year I was hugely pregnant; this year we have Tiny Man. :goodvibes

We put up our Christmas tree over the weekend.......yeah I know.....

:scared1: .

No, the decorations aren't up outside or anything. My excuse? I am traveling a lot and need to do as much of this stuff before the holidays hit.

Even my parents looked at us funny........and then promptly asked for cocoa and gingerbread cookies.

It aint easy keeping up with the Griswolds.
