So much for "pre-conditions"... During the campaign Obama backpedaled away from his earlier comments about meeting with hostile governments without pre-conditions. In the case of Hamas it was said that the Obama administration would only meet with them if "it renounces terrorism, recognizes Israel's right to exist and agrees to abide by past agreements". Well, it looks like that was a bit of an "un-truth". In a British Arabic language newspaper, Dr. Ahmad Yousef, a political adviser to the prime minister of the Hamas-led Palestinian government has said that Obama advisers held a secret meeting with Hamas officials in Gaza before the election and the two groups they remained in contact since. "We were in contact with a number of Obama's aides through the Internet, and later met with some of them in Gaza, but they advised us not to reveal this information as it may influence the elections or become manipulated by McCain's campaign"

Are you really surprised? Obama made secret promises out of his wazoo to who knows who and America will pay for it.

Nice succinct column by Michael Steele today.

Listen. Adapt. Be Positive

You know, everytime that man came on Fox to be interviewed, I liked him more and more. He speaks well, doesn't come off angry and to boot.....is good looking. I don't know anything not to like about him. Anyone else know? He seems like a true conservative. Maybe we should think about him as running in the future.

wanted to share an e-mail message i received this morning. this was one of the issues i had in general with the "no on 8" campaign in california, as i was certain churches/organizations would be targeted for not cooperating if same sex marriages remained accessible. looks as though all those people on the other thread were wrong when they (unpleasantly) insisted it would never happen.

XXX and I will be at the Sonoma County Court house for the protest, but please go
to a court house in SF or LA or whichever county you belong and join us.

If you can't then please consider signing the petition attached.

The Mormon church spent heavily in CA to get Prop 8 passed.

However, according to the IRS, "No organization,INCLUDING A CHURCH,may qualify for IRC section 501(c)(3) status if a substantial part of its activites is attempting to influence legislation (commonly known as lobbying).

That's right folks. The Mormon Church, by purchasing ads specifically for promoting the passage of Prop 8 - according to the IRS - should lose its tax exempt status.

Please sign this petition (follow the link on the page this link
will take you to), which calls upon the IRS to follow the law and strip the Mormon Church of tax exemption:

then i found this on the IRS site, which makes it look as though those behind this protest junk are ignoring the pertinent details:

churches and other 501(c)(3) organizations can engage in a limited amount of lobbying (including ballot measures) and advocate for or against issues that are in the political arena.

That was horrible. What got me was at the very last second, the male news anchor said that there was "obviously a lot of hate going on on both sides". I didn't see the woman say or do anything hateful. The only hate was from the protestors.

"A lot of hate going on on both sides." Seriously, WTH? :confused3
How is the old lady hating on anyone? Those opponents of Prop 8 need to have a big ol' cup of Get Over It. Their intolerance, including trampling on the cross, is horrifying and sad.

I know...amazing, isn't it? :sad2:

I have an MRI today and I'm a little nervous for it. If you don't mind, would you say a prayer for me that it all goes okay? They are knocking me out for it. This will be my fourth one and it's so hard for me to sit still for an hour and a half. Hopefully the sedation will make it a lot easier for me.

I'll pray for you.

Haha, that's hilarious! You better believe my mom listens to whatever conservative radio talk show host is on anytime she's in the car. My siblings, from the 5 year old to the 15 year old, all know them far too well.

I have talk radio on all the time in my car. My poor kids...:rotfl2:

I don't hate anyone. It might be hard for some to believe but I can disagree whole heartedly with someone and not hate them. You disagree with me, do you hate me? That's the arguement you are using.

Yes, I'm a christian. Yes, I have certain beliefs. I am not homophobic. I don't think one should drink and drive, does that mean I am alchophobic? Because someone disagrees with a lifestyle, that means they are afraid of that person/lifestyle? Gee, I guess my family shouldn't have invited my BIL's brother and his SO to my niece's wedding cause we are so scared of them. Who knew? I just thought sharing a nice memory and a glass of wine, maybe a dance, would be nice. We treated them the same as any other relative/friend at the wedding ..........is that the hypocrisy I'm supposed to see?

Just because I disagree doesn't mean anything except that I disagree! And because I'm a christian, does that make me,or any other christian perfect? Yea, I'm a hypocrite every time I say I want to be self-controlled with God's help and I eat a whopper with cheese and fries for lunch. But does that make me a terrible person that you would hate me? I struggle just like anyone, I try to be a loving, caring person every day that I wake up but it is a struggle since I'm not like Jesus yet? Can you show me some grace and not hate me for not being perfect yet?

I would feel free to have a cup of coffee with you if you lived nearby. I only ask that I am free to have an opinion and freedom to vote as I please and maybe I might want to protest peacefully sometime. I will never call you names, disrespect you as a person or raise my children to hate you.

Now, if all of this makes you hate me, or become phobic of me, I guess I can't help that. But nothing you could do or say will make me hate you. There are those blasted christian beliefs again.

Very nicely put...exactly how I feel too. :goodvibes

See, there goes that ridiculous combination of logic and compassion again. :lmao:
I try to explain that to people, too, but I am learning to save my breath IRL because they hate us for our religion before they even know us. It doesn't seem to get through that we can disagree with someone's lifestyle and not hate them. :sad2:
But I digress...let's move on to better topics. Like the fact that bo is apparently a treasonous snake. If true, that meeting with hamas doesn't surprise me a bit.

Praying for you, MM.

This is going to be a LONG four years...:sad1:

I was 25!

I'll be praying for you. I get them every year to check on the cyst on my pituitary gland to make sure it doesn't grow. I know it is uncomfortable so I hope they can sedate you where it is easier on you.

I've had a pituitary adenoma for over 20 years. It's changed very little over the years. I've always wondered if this has effect on my fibro. I'm a LITTLE claustrophobic but, valium seems to do the trick (during the MRI) for me.

Unfortunately, not at all. It's my worst fears come true. The saddest thing? His supporters won't care one iota. They will either be oblivious to what he does.:sad2: or be happy he's bringing "hope and change".

You got that right. They really don't care. If I hear "hope and change" one more time.....

Hmmmm.... Obama considering a "congestion tax" for cars???

THAT IS JUST SUCKY!!!! i already drive 90 miles in each direction (2 - 2.5hours each direction!) in the s.f. bay area to work where i can earn enough to pay my bills. bridge toll is already $4, and we already pay a gas tax. i drive a fuel efficient car. now he's gonna make it unreasonable for me to have a job which allows me to pay my bills? does anybody seriously think i'd commute like this if there were jobs near home paying the same? i'm sorry to offend, but how about we add taxes to the single drivers of hummers and giant SUVs...these things are HUGE, guzzle gas, and there's only ONE PERSON IN THEM!!! if you're driving a passel o' kids or need it for work or something, then i understand, but COME ON!!!!!!!!

i'm ready for obummer to GO AWAY NOW!!!!

thank you. i'll be here all week.

NEWT in 2012!!!

I met Newt in........DisneyWorld!! Yes, I did. Literally bumped into him at the German Pavilion trains. I apologized to him and then realized who he was and screamed, "OMG you're Newt." He said, "why yes I am" He laughed at me. He was really nice.

Sarasotamom, I'm sorry your family is going through tough times but there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel. Much like their minds, peoples' eyes can be opened. I've seen it happen first hand.

I came from the same background as you, just throw in career military! My upbringing falls into the uber-conservative Republican take-no-prisoners category. And you're right, there is a huge amount of homophobia and hatred in this country even today, in the 21st century. It baffles me.

You are very, very encouraged to come over to the GLBT board of the DIS and post your thoughts over there. You'll find all the support and hugs you need so join us! Here's a link: http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=112

If your post was for Sarasotamom, I would suggest sending a PM. I don't think she has the tolerance to read this thread.
