I agree with what he is saying. I do not understand why McCain didn't go after the Fannie Freddie mess. It makes me wonder if it really is a conspiracy, both dems and reps involved. I am so mad!!!:scared1:

I hear some people say that if McCain had voted "NO" on the bailout, that he would have won. I don't know if he would have won, but my DH was furious at him for voting for the bailout.

What do you think?:confused3

I look at this administration as "Put Up or Shut Up time" for the liberals. President-elect Obama promised the Moon during the campaign and there is no way he can deliver on any of it......and keep the Moonbats happy.
Funny, the Washington Times has noted that all of Obama's 25 "agenda" priorities that were initially copied from his campaign site to the change.gov official transition site have been removed and replaced with more generic comments about improving the economy, promoting energy independence, bringing the war in Iraq to an end, etc. The back-pedaling is already starting!!!

From my own perspective, I know I lost a lot of enthusiasm for McCain when he voted for the bailout. Some people would say I need to refit my tin foil hat, but I still suspect that the bailout is mostly a way for Wall Street fat cats to get out of their investements while the market is being propped up for suckers -all at taxpayer expense.

Just a little update on Governor Palin, back home:

Palin reflects on her run
The defeat, the future and the critics are all addressed

By SEAN COCKERHAM
scockerham@adn.com

(11/09/08 23:38:24)

Gov. Sarah Palin blames the Bush administration for the failure of the McCain-Palin ticket, thinks people need to move on from the so-called "Troopergate" controversy and has no regrets about state per diem for time spent at her home in Wasilla or state-funded travel for her children.

Palin also said she loved her time in the national spotlight and won't rule out a run for president or vice president in 2012.

Those were some of Palin's responses to questions posed Sunday afternoon in a wide-ranging interview with the Daily News and KTUU Channel 2 at the governor's Wasilla home.

Despite the defeat of the Republican ticket at the polls Nov. 4, Palin remains a national media obsession: Greta Van Susteren of Fox News had just finished an interview with her Sunday and was chatting with the governor and her husband in the kitchen. Moose chili cooked in the crock pot and moose hot dogs lay on the table. Palin insisted they weren't a prop for the national media but just how the family likes to dine.

sp1.jpg

Seven-year-old Piper Palin walked around with an apron and a notebook, asking people what they wanted to drink. Outside, an "Entertainment Tonight" crew waited, hoping without success that the governor would grant them an interview.

Here are some excerpts from the interview:

Q. Why do you think your campaign lost?

A. I think the Republican ticket represented too much of the status quo, too much of what had gone on in these last eight years, that Americans were kind of shaking their heads like going, wait a minute, how did we run up a 10 trillion dollar debt in a Republican administration? How have there been blunders with war strategy under a Republican administration? If we're talking change, we want to get far away from what it was that the present administration represented and that is to a great degree what the Republican Party at the time had been representing. So people desiring change I think went as far from the administration that is presently seated as they could. It's amazing that we did as well as we did.

Q. There's been an enormous amount of information about you that Alaskans have been exposed to the past couple of months -- and lots of it very critical. What are Alaskans supposed to make of all this?

A. Regarding information regarding my record, that is now out there, much of it that was based on misinformation was a very, very frustrating thing to have to go through when the record was never corrected. And we would try to correct the record and too many in the media chose not to make those corrections.

Q. What misinformation are you talking about?

A. Some of the goofy things like who was Trig's mom. Well, I'm Trig's mom (raises her hand) and do you want to see my medical records to prove that? ... And banning books. That was a ridiculous thing also that could have so easily been corrected just by a reporter taking an extra step and not basing a report on gossip or speculation. But just looking into the record. It was reported that I tried to ban Harry Potter when it hadn't even been written when I was the mayor. So, gosh, we have so many examples, I mean every day, especially the first few weeks, every day something that was thrown out there.

sp2.jpg

Q. One of the things that came up during the campaign is that you charge the state per diem for time spent here in Wasilla. Is that something you are going to continue to do?

A. We've always followed the law and fully disclosed all that. The choice there in many months of the Juneau mansion being re-plumbed and all the improvements being made in the infrastructure of the Juneau house, where we weren't going to be there anyway. Knowing that in the end it would have cost the state more money to do what other governors had done and that is either charge the state for hotel rooms. Or the state rents you an apartment like they did for Governor Murkowski. We said no, we just won't sell our house, knowing that we're going to spend quite a bit of time here, especially those months where the remodels were taking place in the governor's mansion. And we would disclose my per diem, we wouldn't try to hide it ... trying to go above and beyond, not accepting any per diem for the kids or Todd at all, they've lived outside of the governor's house. Trying to follow the rules and doing what is legal and ethical and full disclosure.

Same with the family's travel. That's baffled me that all of a sudden two years later, again, never having tried to hide anything with either traveling back and forth to Juneau for first family events that were outside the capital city, in bringing Piper and, once in a while, Willow with me also, that anybody would think that I was trying to hide that they came with me ... just trying to do my job and part of my job is with the first family, having them with me at some of these events.

Q. What was it like running for vice president?

A. It was amazing. It was amazing and very, very busy and energizing. Every day was an amazing experience and I loved it ...

And I truly believe it was good for Alaska. I believe that, with tens of millions of people seeing kind of a different face of Alaska, and again, not me personally but what it is that we represent. Hardworking, unpretentious, conservationists, all these things that our administration and my family, all that we embody, has been good for Alaska because it's shown that up here we do work hard and we do want to produce and we want to contribute more to the U.S. ... And the eyes of the nation are on Alaska, they're going to be on us for a long time.

Q. They, of course, will be on you, governor. Rasmussen Reports said 64 percent of Republicans see you as their top presidential choice in 2012.

A. Oh, look how fickle poll numbers are. Look where I've gone, up and down, up and down, even in the state of Alaska the last couple of months. We can't pay attention to those numbers.

Q. Still that's got to be pretty heady stuff, you've got to be thinking about that?

A. I think OK, it provides opportunity, again, to do things right up here as the governor. And to make sure that, if those eyes of the nation are on the state, that we are responsible, we are just, we are fair, we are productive, all those things that this state already is but we have opportunity to be even more so. The eyes of the nation are on the state, we're not going to let them down, we're going to make sure that people know we can do things right up here.

And then that, too, opens the door for more opportunity for the state. Ultimately, what it results in is more job opportunity for Alaskans. Because as more of an allowance is given to our state to ethically and responsibly develop our resources, we'll have more explorers up here, we'll have more companies up here wanting to do business. That can lead to great job creation in the state.

Q. Were you aware that during the campaign there were some large protests in Anchorage against your candidacy as well as your handling of the Walt Monegan issue? What do you think about that and what can you do to bring those people back.

A. To bring those people back in terms of ... I wasn't aware of all the protests until like after they'd happened, I hear about it, a friend e-mailing me or something saying that there were placards out there saying whatever they would say. I think that's the nature of a national level campaign also. The opposition to our ticket on the national level, that's going to be expressed here on the local level too. The whole Monegan thing, I am glad that we've already gone through two different processes now, the personnel board, which is where it should have been all along, and the legislative investigation of it also. It's done. It's over. People need to move on.

Q. Do you think it's going to be difficult for the state to make a case for earmarks, given that you and John McCain were so outspoken against them?

A. Not so much the case being made more difficult for Alaska in requesting but we'd better make sure that every earmark we request is in the nation's best interest and is something that has been vetted and seen the light of day via public participation.

Q. So fewer earmark requests coming?

A. I'm sure there will be fewer earmark requests and they will be sensible earmark requests, again, those things that can help on a national front, not just on a state front.

Q. What did you think of Tina Fey, really?

A. I really liked her. Her in-laws came to one of our rallies and met us backstage. They're pretty hardcore Republicans, the in-laws were. She had told me that, she was like, believe it or not, I'm from a family of Republicans. You, know, it was like, we have more in common than you think.

The back-pedaling is already starting!!!

he met with the CIA for the first time last thursday. i'm sure he was shocked by that debriefing a number of times. i completely expected his "promises" to soften after he found out the truth. that's the problem with hiring somebody to this position who hasn't sufficient experience in general, and especially military experience...he didn't have a CLUE!!!!

I hear some people say that if McCain had voted "NO" on the bailout, that he would have won. I don't know if he would have won, but my DH was furious at him for voting for the bailout.

What do you think?:confused3

I honestly don't think it would have made any difference as far as him getting elected.
It would have made me feel better about him though.

What I wonder about is why he did not point fingers as to exactly who is responsible for the mortgage mess.

Amazing, isn't it? What H giveth, H can taketh away. And let no mere mortal question why.

blestmom, thank you for the Sara interview!

I wear that same tin foil hat! We can form a Tin Foil Hat club. Better than drinking Koolaid!:thumbsup2

I stopped watching the news, I'm tired of seeing the media praise "H". I also want to get back at Hollywood and so tempted to stop going to the theaters for awhile.
I'd rather read the news on the net on an unbiased nonpartisan website or Fox than watch even local crap.
We almost never go to movies. The last one we went to was Chronicles: Prince Caspian.

That man is not my president as I've stated before, he's a place holder.

They won't quit with the racist unless everyone drinks the koolaid and becomes a believer. I for one will never become a bot.
Then I guess I'll be their definition of a 'racist' for the next four years. I'll give him a chance, sure, and I'll respect the office. But as of right now he seems to be trying to implement all the crap we knew he was going to do. There's no centrist/moderate guts in this guy; he's hardcore lib. I don't care what mess they removed and replaced on his website. They probably just moved it because some of the koolaid drinkers were starting to worry..."Wait a minute! This is true? I thought the republicans were making this stuff up!".

On a happier note, DH and I were talking about our Christmas trip to Cali to visit family. He, too, would like to go to DL during Christmas. :yay:

Actually, didn't he say bringing the war in Iraq to a RESPONSIBLE end?

That's a BIG difference than "bring the troops home NOW"!!!

Bringing the war in Iraq to a RESPONSIBLE end has been the policy of the Bush administration, and exactly what McCain campaigned on.

Will the liberal lefties who carried Mr. Obama to the presidency attack him for not ending the war on 1/21/09?

Doubtful. They have a lot invested in ensuring that he is viewed in a positive light. They will find reasons to justify whatever decisions he makes.

I agree. There will be so many twists and contortions in the years to come that it will be hard to track them all.

Blestmom - thank you so much for sharing the SP interview. I love her! Is it too late to send you something for your scrapbook? I'm so bad with words...
they'll be trying to re-write history for the rest of time...to suit that agenda hilary mentioned in her letter.

so sad....as soon as history is forgotten, it repeats.
Wise, wise words.

I love this thread. I'm in and I'll try and check in regularly....

Palin/Huckabee in 2012! Or maybe Huckabee/Palin... I just can't decide...

Hi CastawayJP! Welcome to our thread!

Got Disney";28642752] Well howdy howdy howdy....have been off the CB for a bit hanging on the ABD (Adventures by Disney) board...we are thinking of taking a vacation through them. We had decided that we wee not going to vacation except for our Annual camping trip (if ya wanna call it that cause we use our Motor home :rolleyes1 ) but I am starting to have withdrawals for more. We cruise Disney every year to year and a half (just went to Mexico in July)....and also go to WDW(when cruising) and always DL because we are DVC members and AP holders there(in Ca.) ... so we were thinking of doing the Grand Canyon(Arizona) and Utah ABD....we don't have far to fly.... about 45 minutes at that.... Anyone ever done ABD????? As for the Hillary letter.....they will not have the money for that and many others things they want to do. I am still not sure how I feel about the Health care programs. Being a nurse and seeing how much moneys we spend in our taxes already due to sooooo many using health care free clinics and hospital stays and Emergency rooms and Medi-cal/Medi-caid....we are paying more in taxes for all this than you realize. In addition to the rising costs of private Ins. I am between the fence on it... Want it but dont want it.....We can afford the $900 a month for our HI...and that's for an HMO/Kaiser....people that can't afford it well I worry about them and also if they go to a Hospital ER they can not be turned away. JMO on the issue.....[/QUOTE] I would love to go to the Grand Canyon. Like you said:
Hi everybody. I'm away from the DIS for a couple of days and it feels like I've been gone forever. :upsidedow

I only read the last page or two, but am I correct in assuming that there continues to be an invasion of leftists? Poor things... they're like the Hare Krishna people in airports back in the 70's and 80's. They can't take "no" for an answer and they won't quit pestering you. :sad2: At any rate, continue with the bombardment of flowers and lasagna, and send up the batsignal if necessary. :goodvibes

Is anyone else feeling really out of place in terms of what's going on right now? I remember when the Bush-haters would say stuff like "Bush is not my president" and I wouldn't understand. I do now. I feel like some kind of outside observer of American politics at the moment. I don't look to H as any kind of leader, any more than I do the head of some foreign country -and he hasn't even taken office yet!
I didn't fell like that during the Clinton years. It honestly surprises me because I am typically a loyal and patriotic person, but right now I have nothing but disdain for the coming administration. Maybe worse yet, it could turn into apathy.
As I think about it, this is probably similar to the range of emotions that an assault victim goes through. Having been mugged the victim feels anger, and then just gets sort of numb. What comes next?

I feel the same way Zip - kind of numb. I don't know how to describe it.

not sure how okay it is to mention this here, but i'll do it anyway.

to make the work day go much smoother, i listen to an online station which plays nothing but disney music...it is called subsonic radio (subsonicradio.com). once you register, you can make requests from their extensive library of disney park music.

today somebody requested the most beautiful version of The Star Spangled Banner i have ever heard...it is a recording of The Voices of Liberty from the America epcot pavilion. another favorite of mine is My Country Tis of Thee. soooo beautiful it brings tears to the eyes.

while i'm sure some other threads wouldn't be interested, i knew this thread would like to know.

Cool - I'll check it out. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Hi everyone. Just checking in to say, "HI". It's getting to be crunch time at school, so I can't get on the computer as much as I really want to.

I was watching Hannity's America last night, and he did a story about how liberal history college professors teach history and how they distort things to suit their views and agendas. I know I've seen it first hand. Sick, sick, sick.
I feel for you. How do we "un"doctrinate our kids? How can we fight against this?

They cannot stop calling their opponents racist......it is still all they have.........and it works...... I still say it is a dumb strategy and one that ensures we stay divided, but they are obviously comfortable with that.

I don't believe that President-elect Obama will damage me.......he will very likely ensure that I keep less of my hard earned money than I know I should, but I don't see this being permanent.

I look at this administration as "Put Up or Shut Up time" for the liberals. President-elect Obama promised the Moon during the campaign and there is no way he can deliver on any of it......and keep the Moonbats happy.

capt_a3958b27579f40488a5f4563afc911.jpg

It is win/win for us, as long we keep referring to the list of promises from his campaign and what he actually does.....well that and not descend into the childish hatred we saw the last 8 years from screamers like above.

Keep in mind, Sen McCain (for all his faults), still received 46% of the popular vote.

We just need to get back to basics (like the thread title) & watch events unfold.

I already started. I no longer have cable TV or newspaper subscriptions. I am done with the media and their elite bias.

I am internet only. We have plenty of DVD's.

Regards,
Great post Mr. Man.

Yup, I guess "change" only meant no Rep president.

I was surprised that a dem got in for governor (trust me, I didn't vote dem). After the Black and Decker debacle, amazing that any dems got in anywhere.

I was not surprised that Dole got ousted. She ran a very strange campaign towards the end. And I don't think she was that great a senator, but I am less sure of her replacement.

Michael Regan was just on our local radio. He is thinking of giving up radio and going into politics. He is ticked at the way the White House has been run. And Reps in general.
I love Michael Reagan - he's a great guy. I'd love to see him in office some day.

I wasn't paying attention to Dole's campaign. What was she doing that was strange towards the end?

Funny, the Washington Times has noted that all of Obama's 25 "agenda" priorities that were initially copied from his campaign site to the change.gov official transition site have been removed and replaced with more generic comments about improving the economy, promoting energy independence, bringing the war in Iraq to an end, etc. The back-pedaling is already starting!!!

LOL - I'm surprised it's happening so soon...

Okay everyone - got any suggestions for Conservative newspapers or magazines? I need to put something on my Christmas list and I thought it would be nice to have a conservative paper or mag on the list. Makes it easy for my mom and dad.

Still not done with the laundry, but I did get all of the bills paid, six loads of wash done, all of the beds made and dinner in the oven...

Okay, I really messed up the formatting of my last post, but most of the bold in there are comments from me.

Blestmom - thank you so much for sharing the SP interview. I love her! Is it too late to send you something for your scrapbook? I'm so bad with words...Wise, wise words.

No, not too late at all. I'm working on it this week, and hope to deliver it next week.

I feel for you. How do we "un"doctrinate our kids? How can we fight against this?

I think this is a huge area. I'm not sure what to do about it. Time to really pay attention to the school boards. We homeschool our kids (which I know won't work for most people) but because of that, we have gotten quite involved with the state school board, etc. It isn't that hard to go to a school board meeting and let your thoughts be known. And, written communication goes a long way too. We've written lots and lots. I know of several changes...positive...that have been made because people in our community spoke out.

I love Michael Reagan - he's a great guy. I'd love to see him in office some day.

I don't know...I wonder about his lack of name recognition? LOL! :rotfl2:
From what I've been reading this week, he seems a little fired up. I'm glad. We need to get fired up to fight to get our country headed in the right direction. ..the way our founding fathers wanted it to go.

Okay everyone - got any suggestions for Conservative newspapers or magazines?

Yes, I'd like to know, too.

Still not done with the laundry, but I did get all of the bills paid, six loads of wash done, all of the beds made and dinner in the oven...

Well, you're ahead of me. I've only done 2 loads, still have the bills to pay, and haven't even thought about dinner!:rolleyes1

I finally ventured out in the CB last night and it didn't take long before I was called "ignorant". I am 50 and I have never been around a group of arrogant and vile discontents in all my life. I have also noticed that several are missing their siggies. :rolleyes1

I'm 50 too and those threads remind me of trying to argue with my 14 yo daughter. They are very discontented for being so young. Seems like it will be a long dark road for them.

I love this thread. I'm in and I'll try and check in regularly....

Palin/Huckabee in 2012! Or maybe Huckabee/Palin... I just can't decide...

Oh please, anyone but Huckabee...for anything. I think we would have had a winning ticket in a Romney/Palin ticket. Huckabee sabotaged Mitt and I am afraid he will be back in 2012 to do it again!

My opinion is...

...this is a conservative board, but there are lots of conservatives out there that are potential candidates. I'd hate for us to squabble too much here, because different people like different candidates.

Now, if there are stands on the issues with certain candidates that we are questioning, I think it would be helpful to bring them up here, in a nice, respectful way. :flower3:

But to say things like 'sabotage' is pretty emotionally loaded, and Romney supporters will agree, and Huckabee supporters will feel attacked.

Similarly, I'm sure Huckabee supporters could find lots to say about Romney, too.

So...can we agree to keep to the issues? I, for one, would like to start learning more about the potential leaders in the Republican party, so I would appreciate things people can share what they know.

Let's just not start bickering amongst ourselves.

Have y'all heard about the Obama spokesman who said that Obama is ready to take power and RULE from day one?

It's on Drudge. Disgusting. Well folks, we got what I thought we were gonna get - a dictator, not a president.

He has no intention of Governing - he wants to Rule. :sad2:

Prepare for massive amounts of Executive orders during the next 4 years.

That may be his intention and he may get his way for a bit. The thing he needs to realize is that there are 535 other would be kings waiting in the wings. The 100 senators and 435 representatives care more about their slush funds from lobbyists and about being reelected than they care about that man. If they feel their positions threatened, they'll turn on him as a rabid wolf would turn on an injured deer.

I am sorry if you saw my comments as bickering but I am concerned that Huckabee's asking "questionable" questions about Mormonism, created thoughts among some that Romney was a member of a "cult". Huckabee stood very little chance of ever winning the general election and I think that he will stand very little chance of winning the next general election. I would certainly support Romney, Palin, Jindal and I think that we need leaders to emerge now that will take Republicans back to their conservative roots. Again, Huckabee was socially conservative, but he wasn't a generally conservative candidate. He had a populist appeal but it wasn't he wasn't consistantly conservative. I agree that its important to talk about the positive leaders that need to emerge but I think its important to recognize the those who may show up at the prom but won't make it to graduation. Edited to add, if there are detractors that concern posters about Romney, that can be discussed as well. I won't take it personally. ;)
