Debbie isn't the only single gal out there. T&G, would this guy you refer to happen to be in the 25-29 year old age range? Is he a conservative? If so, send him to Virginia! If he's in grad school, law school or med school, it can count as community service hours under Obama's "mandatory volunteerism" act.

*elbowing SD out of my way* heck yeah! I even have a new raincoat!

He's 37, never married, no children, wants both. Strong Christian conservative, no college but is thinking of getting degree in criminal investigations; he loves CSI. :rotfl:

We watched "The Patriot" tonight. Really makes you proud of country, a reminder that she's worth fighting for.

How Sarah Could Run for the Senate
Posted by: Amanda Carpenter at 3:19 PM

As we wait for the final results to come in about Ted Steven's Senate race many of you have been wondering about Sarah Palin's options for the slot.

I have all the relevant Alaskan state law statutes in front of me so let me run down the scenarios for you.

SCENARIO 1)
If Ted Stevens loses, Democrat Mark Begich becomes Alaska's new senator. Palin can challenge Lisa Murkowski for her seat in 2010. (This would be fitting since Palin unseated Murkowski's father. It would be interesting to watch Palin go after the daughter, too.)

SCENARIO 2)
Ted Stevens wins and then the Senate refuses to seat him. Or, Stevens does the right thing and resigns.

If this happens and Palin wanted to get his seat she would be best off temporarily appointing someone else and running for the seat straight up in a special election. This is because Alaskan law requires a special election and while Palin may be able to temporarily appoint herself the laws on this are too new and confusing to mess with.

Regardless of whether she runs or not, Palin would need to call for a special election between 60 and 90 days AFTER the vacancy occurs.

Now, about the temporary appointment. It's complicated. Alaskans passed a ballot measure in 2004 that said the Govenor is allowed to call for a special election, but NOT make a temporary appointment.

The Alaskan state legislature passed something on this in 2004 as well. And, it's at odds with what the voters did. The legislature passed a measure that says "When a vacancy occurs in the office of United States senator, the governor may, at least five days after the date of the vacancy but within 30 days after the date of the vacancy, appoint a qualified individual to fill the vacancy temporarily until the results of the special election called to fill the vacancy are certified."

You got that? The ballot initiative says she can't do it, but the legislature says she can. No one knows which measure would win in the end because it's never been tested.

But, it wouldn't make a lot of sense for her to appoint herself at all. That would be a touch "diva." Appointing the place holder and then running honestly would be much better and, I'm guessing, more Palin's style.

I was on a conference call with conservative activists this afternoon and a leader from Alaska said, "If she runs, she wins."

He's so cute!!! I want one. I can't believe I just said that. I never wanted a dog before. I'm a cat gal, we have two. I think my kids' constant begging and my sister's cute chihuahas have weakened me.

I'd like to think that all the folks who voted for him weren't necessarily Obots -- just stupid enough to believe he was conservative. I'd like to think that, when he, say, flips off a major world leader and starts absolute chaos, that the stupid ones might buy a clue and get him out of office in 2012.

I don't think that they are. Since the general had started, Obama has had to heavily campaign from the center - even sometimes move a little right. He never showed that he was a true lefty that he really is.

Most people that voted for him were really clueless to who this man is. To them, the media didn't allow them to see this man for what he really is and a vote for him was a vote against Bush. Obama is already showing that he will not be governing from the center that he attempted to run the bulk of his campaign on. Plenty of people will be waking up over the next year with "buyer’s remorse".

The liberal's can laugh right now in the victory from this election and kid themselves that the 2012 map will be painted all blue but unless the Republicans screw up in 2012 (and no, should they put Palin on the ticket that won't be a screw-up. The majority of the Republican's love her) than the Dem's are toast. And seriously, the Republican’s are pissed about the screw-ups of this election, their pissed that McCain - who is too far left for most of them - was their nominee and they're going to get a more conservative nominee for 2012 and they will kick Obama out of office.

I hope she does. It's been a long time since I've seen a Republican do what comes so effortlessly for her. Energize the base.

I was just reading and re-reading world headlines this morning. I know the economy is front and foremost on everyone's minds - but apparently Osama is getting ready to threaten Obama and his Cabinet as soon as it is named. Putin and Russia are flexing their muscles - seemingly antagonizing the US. For all of our sakes, I hope that Obama is up to the challenge and places the security of this nation before what may or may not be politically popular. It seems that he will be tested on or before January 20. I just hope he listens to Colin Powell rather than listening to Joe Biden.

Hi guys
I had to take my hubby to the airport at Odark am. He's going to be in CA for 2 weeks.
We had to leave the house at 5am.
Thats not really that bad, because I'm usually at work by 5am anyway.

Thanks

I have a question for all of you

Are you a Republican first, conservative second or

Conservative first, Republican second?

I have been doing a lot of soul searching this past week. Politically speaking that is.
We are about to leave the Republican party.

I just wanted to get some thoughts on where the party is heading, in your opinion.

(For the record, we are conservative first)

Honestly, in my younger days (college) - I truly think I was Republican first. Now, as I age (sometimes not so gracefully) - I'm becoming more conservative. Personally, I am very socially conservative, although this does not translate into my politic beliefs. My motto is - if you are not hurting me or my family and you are not hurting any one else, it is none of my business nor that of the governments to tell you what to do.

Bottom line-- I am for very limited government. I expect the federal government to provide a very strong military to protect this country and my family. I do not want the government involved in all aspects of my life. In fact, I wish they would bud out. I am also very fiscally conservative - spend money only on things which are necessary. I think these areas are where the republican party has left conservative principles behind.

I do not think however that the republican party is alone. Many of my friends are democrats. They do not believe that the democrat party of today is the democrat party that they believed in and supported. It goes both ways.

I'm conservative first, Republican second. I think over the past several years, the government has been growing way too much. I still voted for McCain, because even though he's not entirely conservative, he was much, much better than the other choice. And because Sarah Palin rocks.

Conservative First! Moderate Republicans have not had a very good track record of late and are ticking me off.

He's so cute!! I still say go with caribou or moose!

I have to go with AP's version of rep/conservative... right down to the "as I get older", part. Even during this election I found myself changing a few views to go more conservative. The more I read the more I didn't like my previous stance on certain issues.

oh yeah.. GOOD MORNING! OK, at 4am I totally lost it and smoked my last cigarette. Now there are NONE in the house, and I'm doing fine. I think I'm going to insist we take dh's car to hockey today. Its a dealer car so no smoking. Couldn't even if I wanted to. I don't trust myself in my own vehicle. This is the same vehicle that doesn't start without lighting up. Well, it might, but I've never tried it! LOL
