My mother is still crying over the election. She has friends in Germany (former east Germans) and they are laughing at the stupid Americans for voting the socialist in office. Americans sold out for a few bucks and some slick words.

Too true...:sad1: :sad2:

I didn't quite realize the monster I was going to create.;)

I lament the fact that I did not volunteer more in High School. I am a prime example of what forced volunteerism is. It has no heart and it taught me nothing. I did simply so I could stay in NHS. Now I used to do VBS at my old church, and I loved it. That I enjoyed. In my homegroup at my church, and friend of mine who is mentoring me is wanting me and him to get together once a week to do some volunteer work. It has been hard to find a time both of us can do. And sadly the semester is coming quickly to a close, and I won't be down in A&M next semester as I will be doing the Disney College Program. Hopefully he and I can get a few in before I leave, and do more when I get back.

I really have to question the legality of what Obama is bringing about. I can bet you that as soon as this hits legislation and is enacted, there will be suing involved to get it to the Supreme Court. They will use the 13th Amendment as well as what power Congress is using to pass it. They might have gotten away with a tax and spending power if it were just the college students getting money in return, but there is no way they can spin that for high and middle schoolers. They might get it under the Commerce Clause, but I am not sure it will work. Especially since 1995 after the Lopez case. The Supreme Court is not as willing to let Congress do whatever they want with their powers.(at least in relation to Commerce Clause Powers)

Doesn't matter if it legal. They will change the laws to suit their wants and needs. They have total control.

Seriously, what has happened to (some of) the people in this country. I ventured over to the liberal board and can not believe the hypocracy. They are slamming conservatives for the opinions expressed on this thread. HELLO!! Obviously this is the typical liberalism "Do as I say, not as I do". Well, they want "change"...they're certainly going to get it when the radical left dream team takes over. I honestly believe the liberal public think only republicans with a decent income will be "spreading the wealth". I, for one, work too hard for my income to have it "spread" for those who simply want a handout. And, do they not see that a man who cohorts with "domestic terrorists" and "America haters" does NOT have this country's best interests at heart? If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it's a ............DUCK.

Also, to the posters on the liberal thread (we know you're reading) who gave themselves such props for standing behind George W. Bush after 9/11 and now say "what has he done since?" Let me tell you what he's done. He has kept this country safe from another terrorist attack, something that I highly doubt is going to be on Obama's list of "things to do".:sad2:

There is still the Supreme Court. With 5 justices that are conservative. And there might be a liberal or two that might side with them in this case in the best case scenario.

Hey, did anyone see what's happened with Berg's case in the U.S. Supreme Court? He was denied a delay of the election, obviously, but the case wasn't thrown out! Souter is giving Obama and the rest of the gang until December 1st to respond. :scratchin

http://www.obamacrimes.com/index.php/news/50-justice-souter-denies-injunction-for-stay-of-presdidential-election#comments

Can a brighter legal mind than mine figure out what this means? Does it mean he has to provide a vault BC, or that he can simply say Berg has no standing?

I'm just currently stunned the whole shebang wasn't tossed out.

Sorry, Europe, if anything happens and ya'll get in trouble again I don't think we're going to be able to come help you anymore. Not after he takes office.

My pastor has friends in England who emailed him about the election. They're very nervous about this new POTUS ---- another European colleague, much more liberal in his politics had the same response.

In the interest of optimism here, let's look toward 2010's mid-term elections - there's too much to think about otherwise...:scared1:

We have to lobby our legislators. W/out a veto proof majority, he may not get his way. We have a Democratic representative and maybe 1 senator who are more centrist who probably won't vote with him all of the time.

As I stated on another thread, our (inclusive) representatives and senators are more interested in being reelected than they are in kissing his rear end. We can monitor bills presented and then if it's one we don't like, get everyone you know to call and hound to make sure they don't back it.

The biggest problem with the Republicans and I say this as a Democrat, is that y'all play nice. Get dirty. Pull every stop. Call, call, hound, hound your people in Washington. They work for YOU. They may not act like it but w/out you, they're nothing. REMIND them of this. The dems do it all the time-think Marie Barone. The dems have a voice because they use their voice. We have to keep that man to 1 term and to do that we all have to work together!

Souter, ugh. The only worse justices would have been Ginsberg or Breyer. It wans't tossed out because that would have looked bad.

The Supremes won't hear the case:

In the United States, certiorari is the writ that an appellate court issues to a lower court in order to review its judgment for legal error and review, where no appeal is available as a matter of right. Since the Judiciary Act of 1925, most cases cannot be appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court as a matter of right; therefore,
a party who wants that court to review a decision of a federal or state court files a "petition for writ of certiorari" in the Supreme Court. If the Court grants the petition (see Procedures of the Supreme Court of the United States), the case is scheduled for the filing of briefs and for oral argument.

Four of the nine Justices are required to grant a writ of certiorari, referred to as the "rule of four." The great majority of cases brought to the Supreme Court are denied certiorari

I may not be a brighter legal mind but,......I think the BC is a moot point at this time. There is no way they will allow anyone to prove he doesn't meet the qualifications. The damage to our Country... in it's fragile state... would be enormous.

Agreed.

blestmom, I am about to get to work typing up a message for your scrapbook. Is there a length you have in mind? I ask because, in case you haven't noticed, I'm a conservative of the long-winded variety. :rolleyes1

:rotfl:

As long as you want...:)

Here, Here !!!! You are exactly right -- because we are not fighting for ourselves, we are fighting for our country and our children and their children. This is big stuff folks! That bailout response -- that really sent a message -- and we need to do it again and again and again. I don't care what some liberal thinks of me - I care that my country doesn't slip further away....

And Saxsoon - I am worried about the Supreme Court - we have two justices who are getting older, way past retirement age. I do shudder to think of who H would appoint in their places and the stupid House/Senate would let him.

ITA!!! The first time I saw Republicans stand up and fight was during the 2000 election. I am so tired of them rolling over and playing dead. This is why folks are so afraid of Palin. She's not afraid to mix it up.

Ah yes. The party of tolerance strikes again. My advice is don't go over there. The scales will fall from their eyes soon enough.

GWB has kept us safe for 7 years. We'll see how well BOH does after we are attacked again.

I agree whole-heartedly. I think a lot of us are angry at the way the country is headed. We need to turn that anger into action. Good post!

He has already said he will choose replacements based on their progressive social thinking and if they advance that agenda. It's going to be scary once our current SCOTUS starts to retire.

I know you guys may be all about Palin now....But my advice (and i know you dont want it)....would be to get yourselves on the Bobby Jindal Bandwagon. He is an exceptional public servant, who clearly has what it takes, and HOPEFULLY in 8 years will make a great candidate!!!

Remember you heard it from this loony liberal first

Thank-you. We really need to take a page from the PUMA handbook and hand them their ____ on a plate in 2010.
They want change-let's give it to 'em.
