The Conservative - Liberal Debate Thread

By her logic, Laura Bush could just as easily run. She was a Governor's wife and a First Lady for 8 years. :confused3

Hillary has done an excellent job as Senator of NY, I won't take that away from her-but I've said many times that I do NOT like her campaign style. I think she's made serious mistakes that she may not be able to recover from.

Well, in all fairness, Hillary did try to accomplish things with her position as first lady and not just sit there gazing at her husband adoringly for 8 years.

And the question I have is WHAT experience really prepares anyone to be President?

I think the position is much more about (the) vision (thing). LEAD and people will follow.

What experience did JFK have? By all accounts he would not be electable in this race.... If someone is intelligent, surrounds themselves with people of substance, does have public policy that can be looked upon, and they don't flip flop on the issues, I don't see a problem here.... and if you can get people to stand up and say it's time to be heard, well I don't find that to be a bad thing....

I'd like to see what she got accomplished personally... too bad we can't seem to open up the paperwork to the public. And, in reference, I think Laura worked on children and literacy. I don't think it made much traction.

I agree 100%. I think it's also why old school Washington types like McCain and Clinton are bewildered by the popularity of Obama, even across party lines, and simply do not get it. Problem for them is...they never will.

Personally I'm more upset that local Obama signs have been taken, and replaced with Clinton signs (it was seen while others were canvassing the area), and one Obama sign was burned up last night in a supporter's yard... these are the tactics of her volunteers? Makes me wonder....

I can no longer support her in any way shape or form....

Wow - your kidding. That is just disgusting IMO.

*try* being the operative word...

so she's got failed policy experience as a first lady, and a few years as a senator.

Sadly I am not kidding, it IS disgusting, and has been reported to the State's voting hotline.... but seriously, I just shake my head :confused3

Yup, you are right Fitswimmer, why didn't she run for this go round I wonder?? Another President Bush, it's what this country needs afterall

Speaking of women however, does anyone wonder what Chelsea Clinton might do in the future? She may have good standing if she can move to a state where she could get into the Senate....

New York magazine did a great article on her last week and proposed just that. She has her Dad's ability to work a crowd and her mother's brains. Quite the package indeed.

She could hardly do this when every time she looked up, Willie had a different woman on is arm....

Looks like another power trip/grab by a Clinton will lock the Dems out of the WH for at least another 4 years.

If Bill would have resigned in 1998/1999 over the Lewinsky scandal, Gore would have been the sitting President and would have won in 2000. But no, Clinton had to STAY in power.

Fast forward to 2008…

Hillary is starting to drag Obama through the mud and is producing sound bites that the Republicans will be able to use against Obama in the fall. So as I see it, as long as Hillary stays in the race here are the two outcomes

a) she slashes and burns Obama so that he loses in the Fall

or

b) she somehow manipulates the Super Delegates to win the nominal and in doing so splits the party and she loses in the Fall.

Either way I’m happy cause we get McCain (a RINO) in the WH which is better than either Hillary or Obama.

The Clintons will give up power when you pry it from their cold dead fingers.

Does anyone here know about the issues with hedge funds? One of my financial advisors that I work with who is a true down to bone conservative - told me he was thinking of voting for Obama (if he wins the nomination) over McCain because he feels a democrat would more likely go after the hedge fund abusers then a republican will. He said that the issues with hedge funds was part of the problem with the housing market, the price of oil, and so forth.

I don't know anything about it and am googling to find out more info but I thought I would ask to see if anyone here had any experience with it.

I don't know much, but it appears they favor Obama in the WH.:confused3

That's what I saw to when I googled. I'll give it a day or so then call the guy again. We usually talk politics so the question won't seem out of left flied for him. He is one of the few FA guys I work with that know I lean left - most think the opposite.

My basic understanding is that the hedge funds bought all those sub-prime loans, bundled them with prime loans, then sold them as an investment vehicle on the stock market. Because the prime loans technically offset the risk of the sub-prime loans, it looked like a better investment than it was. Once the banks saw that people and/or institutions were willing to buy these questionable loans, they went nuts and gave mortgages to anyone with a pulse.

I'm sure it's a lot more technical than my explaination though!

I don't quite get the (sometimes) rabid attacks on women from hard core women's libbers. It's like they're less of a woman if they don't conform to their standards. But they say some species eat their own. I guess. :confused3

moved from Conservative Thread.......response to wrevy......

Ah, but I would say that Obama's stance against the war is every bit the "accomplishment" that McCain's stance for it is for you. Yet, somehow I don't think he'd get credit for that from your side. :teeth:

I disagree. It was no kind of accomplishment for Sen. Obama. What kind of current was he swimming against after all?

To me, he just did what demagogues have always done.......

Look around for an angry mob......run and jump in front of them and yell "Follow Me!" ;)

Yes, I am calling Sen. Obama a demagogue ie 1 : a leader who makes use of popular prejudices and false claims and promises in order to gain power.

Not saying he is evil or anything.....just that there is downside to all this "hope" and "change" rhetoric. We should not ignore it.

Regards,

If Obama had been in Congress when the possible use of force in Iraq had come to a vote, he probably would have voted "present."

Naked Messiah.

Voting Present in the Chicago State Legislature is a commonly used tactic in order to negotiate further and possibly come to the outcome for what you desire. Since most of us know nothing of Chicago politics, perhaps we should investigate a little further. It's a common tactical practice from both sides of the aisle. Obama had 100 plus votes of present in 8000 votes...

And may I say at least he READ the Military assessment at the time the vote was being taken for Iraq, something all but a few legislatures DID NOT DO....

I don't know, I think I'll take the guy that reads the reports that come across his desk before making decisions :confused3

I live near Chicago.

So far Obama is known for: 1) real estate dealings and 2) running for President
