Toby: Toby smiled "it is wonderful" he said then he paused, Alex was the only person who knew what he wanted to do. He considered not telling Max, but wasn't sure why. It wasn't a huge secret or anything. "um, I want to teach. Which...seems odd since I said I don't really care about getting good grades. But...I think school shouldn't be about grades, I want to be a teacher who has students learn for learning, not for a letter. I want to actually get to know my students and help them..." he trailed off realizing he might have said to much.

Max: "I was born in San Francisco. Our house there was pretty close to the beach, and Mom would take me all the time." Max nodded. "That's an admirable goal. I've had so many teachers who were teaching just to make their students pass the exams, or to get a paycheck. I'm going army straight out of school so I can get free college, but I have no idea what I want to be. Nothing I'm really good at, I guess."

I didn't want to teach at all until this last year, my pre-calc teacher somehow made it the most interesting class. I got A's, and didn't even realize it, I just wanted to learn about the stuff. And now at this school professor Collins has really solidified it in me" he said.

Toby: Toby nodded about the beach and then smiled "thank you" he said, having someone say his idea was admirable meant a lot. "you'll find what you're good at, maybe you just havn't yet. I didn't want to teach at all until this last year, my pre-calc teacher somehow made it the most interesting class. I got A's, and didn't even realize it, I just wanted to learn about the stuff. And now at this school professor Collins has really solidified it in me" he said.

Max: "Professor Collins is pretty cool, isn't she? All I pretty much know career-wise is that as long as I don't go into law, education or medicine I'll probably be okay."

Toby: "yeah, she is. It's just how you can tell how much she cares about each of us. And the extra things she does. Like this trip. It's really inspirational" he said "see, you do know something. Knowing what you don't want to do can help you find what you want to do" he paused. "I should tell my parents at some point in time that I don't want to go to medical school" he said.

Max: Finally, the helicopter arrived. She climbed aboard. "I feel so pampered here. Only one roommate, I share my teacher with only like a dozen other kids, and I have a helicopter."

Diamond:She got in.

Toby: Toby shrugged again "why don't we just walk around" he said "I want to see some of the city."

Diamond: She walked aimlessly, wandering from the group, yet staying near.

Toby: "yeah, she is. It's just how you can tell how much she cares about each of us. And the extra things she does. Like this trip. It's really inspirational" he said "see, you do know something. Knowing what you don't want to do can help you find what you want to do" he paused. "I should tell my parents at some point in time that I don't want to go to medical school" he said.

Max: "She's the best teacher I ever had. She does care about us. At first I was surprised she never found out about - about me. But then I realized that she must really respect my privacy and hadn't been peeking around in my mind." She didn't say that she had strong mental training, so she probably could hide her thoughts from Professor Collins if she wanted. "I guess you're right about that. And you do need to tell them soon, you're a junior, right? Don't you start looking at SATs and college applications and stuff your junior and senior year? Won't they notice if you don't apply to any of the good medical schools?"

Max: "It's not stupid at all. They have dreams in mind for you, and you know you appreciate them having dreams for you, but don't want those particular dreams, and you don't want to shatter those dreams because you don't want to make them unhappy or upset, but you really want to forge your own path. Am I right?" she said, stopping. She suspected she was, but she figured she knew more about these kinds of things than people thought. "Well, you're just going to have to find the strength to tell them. Is your sister a doctor? If she isn't, you might ask her how she did it."

He didn't know how upset his parents would be, there was a possibility that they wouldn't be upset at all but that seemed unlikely, ever since he was little doctor was always in the plan. He figured they would pretend they weren't upset in front of him, and rather hide it. They love their jobs, and they may not understand not wanting it.

Toby: Toby smiled, he knew for a fact that Alex's life was not normal, and Daniel and Jack probably had their own secrets. He was never going to reveal Alex's secret, so he said. "My life is definitely not perfect. I think everyone has their own stories to tell."

Max: Max laughed with him. She felt better, it was easier to bear everything when she knew other kids had issues too. She also felt guilty for judging him though.

Toby: Toby smiled, he liked having Max as a friend it was amazing how much had changed since he found her on that cliff. "so, anything else you want to know?" he asked.
