The Coca-Cola Company is discontinuing Tab

We're caffeine-free Diet Dr. Pepper fiends and couldn't find it anywhere for months. Cusstomer service at our grocery store said it was because of an aluminum can shortage. It's even harder to find in bottles. Cans of the stuff suddenly reappeared two or three weeks ago. Has to be Diet because DH is diabetic.

Dr. Pepper is supposedly becoming more popular and they're adding more plants to make the stuff. No idea how long it's been since I saw a Tab, or Orange Fanta. I kinda miss Grape Nehi.

i will be in a long mourning period over the loss of my beloved tab. i last had one sometime last spring. i hadn't seen it in markets for years but about 6 or 7 years ago it started appearing sporadically and i would snap up several 12 packs of it when coca cola products were on sale. when the pandemic hit i went to the extent of calling our local coca cola bottling plant to find out tab's status b/c it wasn't on shelves-at that point they claimed that coke was just focusing on their most popular products.

i'll miss you tab 😭😭😭😭😭

Tab and cigarettes were my meal replacements in the 80's.

Like others, I thought Tab was discontinued long ago. Never liked it. To me, the only good thing about it was its distinctive, pretty pink can. Fresca was worse IMO, but I really dislike grapefruit. :crazy2:

I don’t drink soda very often anymore, but when I do, it’s Diet Coke or occasionally I splurge on regular (classic) Coke.

Tab was the leading diet cola before Diet Coke. In the 80s Coca-Cola repositioned Tab as a different diet soda than Diet Coke.

I wonder if Fresca is behind. That might get renewed popularity after the Amazon Prime series The Boys featured it as the drink of choice of a Scientology-like religious group.

aww, I remember TAB growing up, I think my mom drank it sometimes, but I'm not sure I've ever tried it much. I am addicted to Diet Dr Pepper....
Ha, I saw someone checking into BCV last week, with a case of Fresca. I'm loving that it's been such a part of the Boys and that church of the collective. That's been hilarious!

I remember my grandmother drinking it in the late 60’s/early 70’s.

I love Mello Yello! It's hard to find around here. I check in every store I go to and buy it when I can. DS#2 and I can usually only find it in the Freestyle machines but it doesn't quite taste the same. DS #1 loves Moxie!

Lots of young college aged women drank Tab back in the early 80s. Yeah, it was sort of vile, but still better than Diet Pepsi. I switched to Diet Coke soon after it was introduced.

I occasionally still see Tab at one local supermarket. Seems to be hit or miss.

One long discontinued drink I enjoyed was Teem, Pepsi’s version of 7 Up/Sprite. It was replaced by Slice sometime in the mid 80s.

I'm another person who thought they stopped making Tab years ago. I used to drink it in the 80s and the taste was...interesting. It doesn't really taste like a cola. It's a curious, slightly metallic taste.

Not sure if it was everywhere, but some Pepsi distributors had Bubble Up as their lemon-lime soda. It might have just been one of the regional Pepsi bottlers that was distributing it. I had a relative who owned a restaurant that had Coca-Cola products on tap, but in a fit of anger (after they screwed up and sprayed syrup all over the kitchen) they switched to Pepsi. Bubble Up was one of the selections. This was back when syrup came in refillable aluminum canisters like little half kegs.

Of course then came Slice before it was mostly discontinued in favor of Sierra Mist.

Speaking of grapefruit..

DD#2 found this in the store when she was here.

It's surprisingly...ok. I'm not a grapefruit fan and I kinda like this.

We found Watermelon Crush a few years ago, but didn't get it. Kicking myself for that.

Yup, I was in college then too. Anyone remember Jolt Cola? Probably the first energy drink. All the sugar, twice the caffeine! :drinking1

Still available. Their website primarily lists Dollar General. For a while their tagline was "Real sugar and twice the caffeine."

When I was in grad school, there was a place that offered a "Student Breakfast." It was Twinkies and a Jolt Cola.
