All the holidaymakers have done Disney before, sis & family just once in 2001, for Mum & Dad it’s their 4th visit in 6 years, Paul was here 10 years ago…and Mark, Becky and I have racked up nearly 30 trips between us…..

Day 7

Thursday October 25th

Oh I love this hotel! Best night’s sleep so far, at least the a/c works here! Wander down to the pool at 8.30 after picking up a blueberry muffin, yoghurt and lovely coffee from the coffee place downstairs. Decide I don’t really want to swim this morning so Mark goes in and I just relax, enjoying the peace and quiet. We’ve decided to have a later start today as we have fast passes anyway, and can then stay here til we have to be out of the rooms at 11 am. Dad comes down and is looking a lot better today, I’m pleased to say. They’re all packed up and have handed their bags over to concierge already, and are just headed in to bf in The Kitchen. Various members of the Clampets wander out over the next hour or so; Jess seems even more tearful than last night, do you remember what it was like to be in love at 17?

Eventually we’re all ready, bags are with concierge and we’re set for Universal today. The hotel is starting to look very spooky with all the Halloween decorations in readiness for tonight’s gig. Mark has asked for 4 tickets to be available for us but we find out we have to collect them at 5.30, then be back for the gig at 6 ish so that will prove very difficult as we have to rush home and change etc first. Don’t think this will happen somehow. We’ve been very tempted to book an extra night here for just the 2 of us, but feel we’d be rude to as we’ve all planned to go to MK tomorrow. Wish we had done though!

Stroll round to US where we encounter the security check as you leave the hotel path…..disaster here as Mark manages to drop his camera and is sure it’s done for. Luckily it doesn’t seem damaged…..phew! DD & bf are still trying to decide whether they can afford HHN, and whether its feasible for them to get a cab back to the villa, but it would cost a small fortune so once again this doesn’t seem very practical. It’s been very hard for them having to go along with us all the time and we are starting to wish we’d stayed onsite (like I recommended) so they could have got around more easily.

Anyway, here we are at US, Mum and Dad are especially happy as they love it here. We start off at Shrek, using our FPs of course so there’s no wait. It’s pretty quiet in the park anyway, and once again the weather’s not brilliant. I’m starting to realise you can try and control many things, but not the weather. Shrek is a big hit with the party, although Becky screams a lot at the part with the spiders!

Round to Twister which I miss out as I don’t think much of it, apparently Becky reckons there’s no flying cow this time but I’m not sure if that’s correct? Anyway it’s an OK ride for everyone else and we’re just waiting for The Mummy so hurry them all on to the next stop. MA & Pa Clampet of course sit this one out as you’d expect, but surprisingly everyone else agrees to ride. Maybe I’ve under exaggerated this ride to them???

Through the catacombs we pass, it’s almost pitch black and those little rascals Becky & Paul (that’s not what I called them at the time) hide behind a wall and jump out on me……OMG I did scream! Paul thinks it’s so hilarious he does it again at the next corner and still manages to scare the wotsit out of me! At this point we lose 2 Clampets who decide it’s already far too intense for them. Izzy and sis have had enough and run back to the safety of Ma & Pa Clampet…the wimps! The rest of us trek on til we reach the loading bay…..suddenly we lose another Clampet as my big bad BIL decides he’ll be a big girl’s blouse too….”What ‘d’ya say to him?” asks the CM…no idea but he ran away very quickly! Paul is now feeling very nervous as I’ve promised him this is not too bad a ride…he doesn’t like coasters….I’m not sure he believes me, but as he’s just scared the life out of me anyway I’m not too bothered. I get my own Mummy’s Revenge!

Fantastic ride for all of us, though Paul and Jess both look a little pale as we get off; the photo is hilarious and I’m very tempted to buy it, but manage to restrain myself. Jess reckons this was worse than Expedition Everest but I think it’s just totally different with different thrills.
Earthquake is next, where we seem to wait ages, even with our FP, then bypass the old Charlton Heston stunt guy bit, before just a free-for-all boarding the underground train. This is the best bit, but somehow it does seem a little weird without all the explanations of the special effects.

Lunch is next on the agenda, hot dogs from Nathan’s, which are not very nice, and Becky finds it really difficult to find anything to eat at all. Looks like its fries or nothing for her. After lunch the rest of the clan go off to watch Beetlejuice while Izzy comes with Mark and I and we head over to the fairground stalls. Mark has been telling Izzy how he normally manages to win a toy here and that’s it, her eyes light up and before we know it we’re walking round with a giant Donkey (from Shrek), Shrek himself, a large green and yellow frog, a pink teddy bear and a small furry penguin…oh, and a plastic Hulk hammer!!!!!! That’s what you get for boasting Mark! My sister will be soooo thrilled! Just what her house needed I’m sure, more cuddly toys!

We get lots and lots of funny looks now, so if you saw us wandering around with a menagerie of assorted toys you know why! When the Clampets return they are all laughing at the toys and we manage to give each of the ladies one each (Elliott has the hammer), so that’s cool. The Donkey is bigger than Izzy but she insists on carrying him, at first anyway. It’ll be fun doing the rides now!

Jaws is the next ride planned and it’s no wait for us, just straight onboard, Donkey, Shrek and all. Donkey saves us from the nasty shark, and we manage not to get too wet from all the splashing on the way. At Men in Black we let everyone ride first while we look after the zoo animals, (there’s no way Donkey will fit into that locker) then go on again with sis and her kids. Time for Becky & Paul to go off and do their own thing now as time is getting on. We all split up here, the weather isn’t looking good again and we’ve already had some rain spots. It’s also getting late and we agree there’s no way we’ll have chance to come back and see Mr Motley Crue gig later. I’m sad for Mark but he seems ok with it, especially as he got to meet the guy himself last night.

Stop at Dr Schwabs for a banana split, which is oen of the very few desserts I have in Floriuda this tiem. The meals are always too big! Meet Becky & Paul who’ve just done Terminator. It’s really quiet in the park, maybe everyone’s waiting til tonight for HHN? We all wander round the shops then head out of the park around 5 pm where we meet up with all the Clampet gang. Izzy wants me to take her to Quiet Flight which is good by me…..more shopping! I get the sense she gets her shopping interest from her Aunty not her Mother! Jess is very embarrassed as she got picked to dance at Beetlejuice and is now wearing her Bionic Woman badge she was given, but at least she’s cheered up.

Take Izzy over to City walk with sis and Becky & Paul, where they all try on every outfit in the shop, while the others head back to HRH for ice creams and drinks. Becky buys Roxy jeans for $39 (with AP discount) and Izzy buys 2 Roxy t shirts and some jewelry, and Paul buys a hat. So everyone is happy.

Back at HRH it’s manic in reception as there are crowds everywhere arriving for the gig. Lines of smart stretch limo’s are in the driveway and I’m sure there must be a celebrity or 2 in the hotel now. The foyer looks great all done up as a Zombie Bar, with cobwebs etc. This is when I make my second trip to the gent’s loos by the way…yeah yeah I know, very stupid, but honest it was a genuine mistake!!! Becky is extremely embarrassed by the way when I tell her that her mother is a blind madwoman…but not surprised somehow!

Now, this is when not-so-comedy moment number… (I’ve lost count) happens. We all give our receipts to the concierge and he starts piling bags into the bus as quickly as possible as there are queues of limos parked behind our special red Clampet bus….anybody would think they wanted us gone! It’s absolute madness here and we just rush to climb onboard and get home. (result of this fiasco will be told in tomorrow’s episode!) I’m sorry to be leaving though, the Velvet session looks like it’ll be so much fun.

We’re very tired by the time we get back to the villa, and it rains all the way home. Amid lots of squabbling in the back of the van we stop by Mia Pizza on the 27 and pick up some pizzas for dinner then get back home. The kids all have a swim, then some of watch TV and then its bed time. I think a good time was had by all and the outing to the Hard Rock has been very successful, thank you Mark!

Oh no, please don't tell me you left donkey behind - or, worse still, the weeping 17 year old :rotfl2:

wonderful stay at the Hard Rock Hotel. It is so difficult to plan different trips with a large party as in practice it just seems to take forever to get anyway and all the planning goes out the window. There just never seems to be the time.

Looking forward to the next installment:woohoo:

Great Universal day. The exact reason I have never been on the Mummy is that I am terrified of someone jumping out at me in the ride queue!
