The cheerleaders from Feb 11 - 15

We were at Pop during the college cheerleading thing earlier this month, and I was very concerned. But apparently they were at All Stars, because we never saw a single cheerleader. We purposely avoided MGM on Saturday because they were supposed to be there.

There were a TON of events at WWoS while we were there and I was so stressed before the trip! But it was fine. And we avoided MK the night of the Builders Show, so that was fine, too.

I think we saw one SMALL group of soccer players one morning in the lobby at Pop, but they were in uniform and obviously headed out for their competition. No problems for us AT ALL from any of the groups. Even the Brazilian teenagers (that we heard TONS of horror stories about) were fine. They were at MGM but the chaperones kept a tight reign on them. The worst thing they did was use a camera flash on the Great Movie Ride. And the CM repeated the warning, but she said it in English, not Portuguese, so it didn't help.

Try not to worry. Your best bet is to find out as much as you possibly can about their schedule and plan to be somewhere they aren't! :teeth:

We were there the same time as the cheerleaders in Feb 2003. We were staying at AKL, so there was no issue there.

The only time we really noticed them was at MK. Mostly, they would just cheer non stop while waiting in line (which gets slightly annoying). If we saw a big group in line, we'd just go to another attraction. When we went on the Jungle Cruise, the boat was filled with cheerleaders and cheerleading mothers with the exception of DH and me. That was probably the worst, because they never shut up the entire time.

I couldn't say they were ever obnoxious. Their presense certainly didn't ruin our trip.

Just plan on Epcot for their off day (we'll be at the spa), and you'll be fine. :cheer2:

We were at WDW last February when the cheerleaders were there, and it wasn't too bad except at MGM - they were everywhere. Imagine being on TOT with a bunch of screaming teenage girls! Maybe I have a low tolerance for yelling, screaming, and rude jostling, but I found it a bit obnoxious!!!

But it wasn't bad enough to ruin our trip - just an aggravation!

Lin

If they are not at your resort, their impact will most likely be minimal unless you spend a lot of time at the Wide World of Sports.

The only problems I have seen with cheerleader groups this year is being on my way to PI and trying to push past large numbers of photo-taking teenage girls who were waiting to get into Planet Hollywood.

Just wondering, when the cheerleaders perform at MGM studios, will they close down the Indiana Jones Stage for them to perform on Sunday?

I'd love to know this as well as it will change our plans. This has happened to us 3 times already in Jan.

Anyone know?

thanks

They do compete on the Indy stage as well as at WW of Sports Complex and I think at a stage in MK.

*sigh* ok, I guess that means we will keep away from MGM on the 13th, looks like thats where they are scheduled to be.

thanks

Speaking as one who has been there during cheer week in Feb. and had a family member go one year recently with her cheer team (my niece), I would say that if you avoid the parks on the days they are scheduled to be there you won't have any trouble. We hardly noticed them and the girls we did encounter were friendly, enthusiastic and nice, not obnoixous and they certainly were trying to "ruin" our vacation.

If someone is really bothered by their presence I would say go another week. Although then you might run into: high school bands, brazillian tourists, pop warner, pom pom squads, conventioneers, gay people etc.... There is always some big group at WDW.

When my niece was there (twice actually, once was for the Outback Bowl), they stayed once at All Stars and once at CBR. If you avoid those two resorts you won't be disturbed. There were none at BWI when we stayed there!

Good luck. :sunny:

We really didn't notice any problems with the :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: ... I *think* there may have been one group at our hotel (Pop Century) ... they were at the pool and all appeared high school age and were a little tiny bit hyper ... but honestly the two or three moms who were trying to act like teenagers annoyed me more than the actual girls did :sad2: *lol* I'm not usually a very critical or persnicketty person ... and I try not to eaves drop ... but when you keep hearing a very "Janice-from-Friend's" like shrill voice saying "Oh my gawddd .... " you just can't help but hear.

MK was a little crowded on Saturday, but nothing like it is in March closer to Spring Break. I didn't go to MGM with my family on Sunday (I had to go to UCF) but they didn't mention any horrible waits or unusually long lines.

I'm ready to go back!!!!

We saw some groups in both MK and AK last Friday and my DD16 saw some at Epcot. I thought they were well behaved. There was a banner at the MK entrance welcoming them.

I was at WDW last year (my stepdaughters were cheering). Depending on the age of the girls, depends on what happens. The little ones MUST be with a chaperone. The older girls (teenagers) are given free reign of the parks AFTER practice.

The girls schedule last year was:
Fri morning - arrive, practice ALL afternoon, hit parks after dinner, bed by 10
Sat - practice till 2 or 3, then parks, bed by 10
Sun - competition all day, depending on squad, maybe hit parks
Mon - fly home!

I know my stepdaughters were disappionted that they didn't get alot of park time. Maybe next time they will stay with us the extra 5 days instead of going home early!

Hi,

I was wondering about the above schedule?

On my calendar, Monday is Feb 13th, Tuesday Feb 14th? :confused3

Does this mean that the cheerleaders will be in MGM on the 14th?

Hoping someone can help, as this would make a HUGE difference to my plans.

Thanks,

i was there a couple of weeks ago when the college cheerleaders & dancers were there and it was not fun. they were staying at all-stars & were running up and down outside the rooms & screaming in the pool area the last three nights i was there until well after midnight. the last night it was 3 a.m. and security did absolutely NOTHING about this. also they were having them take the bus to mgm and transfer there to another bus for the sports complex. they were first of all rude to other guests with some of their comments about us "taking up space". the bus that i was on pulled up full of cheerleaders from asSports & the few guests from asMu that got on had to stand and then another group of cheerleaders tried to cut in front of us to get on that bus. their sponsor was very rude about "regular guests hogging the bus" so that the cheerleaders couldn't get on. personally, i thought wdw should have provided direct transportation for them so that they wouldn't be inconveniencing other guest and, MAINLY, so that they had less of a chance of being late for their contest. i heard one group say that they were supposed to be at the sports complex in 10 minutes and they had just gotten off a bus at mgm and still had to wait for a transfer over to the sports complex. i don't think they understood how the buses run generally every 15-20 minutes.

on a more positive note, i have also been there in dec. for a middle school cheerleading competition. these kids were fine. the only thing that annoyed me on that trip was one night on the bus (it was POURING down rain & everybody was tired because it was late at night) and they were singing Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer on the bus at the top of their lungs. I can deal with that though even though it was a little obnoxious after a few minutes. The jr. high kids were well behaved and didn't disturb other guests at the hotels like the college kids did.

and before you start flaming me about my comments, i have been there. i have been a kid, a chaperone and a band instructor on several trips to wdw magic music days so i have been on both sides of the competition. however, as a student i didn't feel "entitled" to ruin other guests trips by being rude and acting like i owned the place because i was in the competition, and as an adult (and the chaperones when i was a student did this as well), each adult had no more than 12 students to attend to, no students were allowed to go off on their own, curfew was 10 p.m. and students were not allowed to leave their rooms after that, and common courtesy and respect for others was not only EXPECTED it was REQUIRED.

don't get me wrong, i think it's great that wdw has these opportunities for kids but they need to understand that they are not the only ones at wdw & have a little courtesy for other guests.

and by the way, except for the saturday that they were there, there was no difference in park attendance because the cheerleaders & dancers were there. but that day it was REALLY crowded at MK.
We were also there with Pop Warner. Really no bother at all at the parks but we stayed at Port Orleans and they were everywhere and a complete nightmare!! They were up screaming around the "quiet" pools every night, the last night till 4.00am Security did nothing at all, neither did the parents or chaperones. Infact, they were right there round the pool with them in their own little "we are the only people who count" world, no consideration or respect for anyone else!! We complained and got moved to CBR but what are Disney thinking about? I know they make alot of money from these groups (though the manager told us they had damaged some rooms!) but surely they could dedicate a couple of resorts to them and let the rest of us who have probably paid more individually, have some peace. I can't come for long weekends, it will most likely be another 5-6 years before we visit again.

Wow :scared1:

I hope I don't run into any of this in February 2006. I am going Feb 10 - Feb 18 and as you said, it costs a lot of $ to go to WDW

Thanks for your input :)

Hoping that your next visit will be a nicer one ::yes::
