The Challenges of Getting a Table for Two

I hate the fact that the system won't let you book a table for two even if there is plenty of room for parties of other sizes. Just ran into the stupidity again today while booking Cape May Buffet. Nothing for a party of two...finally it dawned on me to try three and suddenly there was plenty of availability. If I hadn't thought to do that, a table probably would have gone empty that could have warm bodies at it. When we got to the restaurant, they were even taking walk-ups. Sigh...such a stupid system.

Oh, and by the way, no crab legs at Cape May tonight. Bummer, since that's why I went, but the rest of the food was as tasty as usual.

Think a table for 2 is hard, try being on a solo Disney trip. I've gotten to the point of not even trying at many places. Germany is usually pretty good since they seat everyone together there tends to be a seat open here & there. The policy of leaving tables open even on the same day hoping for groups does put a damper on eating sit down at Disney.

If worse comes to worse, book three and tell 'em your companions ditched you. I suppose that might be controversial, but I started checking threes for my party of two when urged to do so by a dining res. CM a long time ago. We were trying to get into Cinderellas and she said, "Too bad you're not a party of three. Then I could book you and maybe one person just wouldn't show up." She had to repeat it a couple of times before it went through my dense skull.

Yeah, I had a similar experience with Le Cellier last year. I kept trying to get a reservation for one person for a late dinner with no luck - but three or four calls in a row, the CMs said they had tables for three, but no tables for one. Finally I got smart and booked the table for three. No flames - it turned into a mini-meet, with all four seats taken in advance.

. . . Oh, and by the way, no crab legs at Cape May tonight. Bummer, since that's why I went . . .

OT:
1) The crab legs are gone.
2) The trial is over.
3) Now, the accounting begins to see if they want to re-introduce.

It makes no sense. How do u have room for 3 and not 2. IDK about how this system is but it's not very good.

i think it depends on the restaurant- lately, the people who ARE getting Le Cellier are parties of 2 or sometimes 4. I have gotten thru at 7 am on the dot with no hold time for two days now (my 90 day and the next day) and still can't get a table for 6 for dinner, and had a very hard time even getting one for lunch.

Probably because most tables are sized for either 2 or 4 - if your party is 3 you are going to be at a table with room for 4 people. They wouldn't want 2 people at a table for 4 - it's a waste of space.

I have sat at a table for 2 at CRT, and believe me, there's no way it would seat 3. And there weren't many of them there.

The theory is that they want to keep the tables for 4 open so they can get 4 paying bodies into the seats insteaed of leaving 2 empty.

Yeah, they do that to make more money. My boyfriend and I tried to get a table for 2 at 'Ohana and NOTHING was available at any time so he asked about a party for 3 and they had one ready. I read another post where a member of their party was unable to dine and the restaurant had no problem with this. Basically, if you need a table for 2 and nothing is available, just call back and ask for a table for 3 and you're set!

I know when we were at the world last week (party of 2) at Le Cellier (1st time) there were 4 tables for 2 in the whole place, while at Chef's de France there were close to 12 tables for 2. At California Grill we were sat at a table for 4(there were some tables for 2) as was the case at Grand Floridian Cafe (I didn't see tables for 2 in the place.

Wow, I never heard of problems for tables for 2. DH and I are going for FD in Sept. and I just booked tables for us at the following with no problems at all.

9/14 LeCellier 6:15pm
9/15 Cape May Clambake 7:15pm
9/16 Ttutto Italia 7:00pm
9/17 Biergarten 2:00pm

I guess I had the ADR Gods smiling down on me this morning!:love::banana:

Last Sept. DH and I booked a table for 4 at LeCellier, just to make sure we could get the 6:30pm ressie we wanted. A couple of months before our trip we posted on the Dis that we would love to have another couple join us, since we overbooked. To make a long story short. We met a wonderful couple, here on the Dis, and had a great evening. They planned their vacation, short notice, and had always wanted to try LeCellier, but could not get a ressie.

I am so glad I found this post! I just called California Grill for 9/6 OR 9/7, party of 2 and all they had was 9:30pm. I am going to call back!!

If you have to give a credit card for places like CRT, then how do you go from a table for 3 to a table of 2 without getting charged for the "3rd" person?

We ran into this once with the Captain's Grille at the Yacht Club. There were no tables for two even though, when we walked over there, the place was nearly empty. All their tables seat four so the computer NEVER has any tables for two.

Dh and I never have a problem with it....we were there last week and I made a ton of changes and still got a table at places....if they tell me there are no tables open I will ask for a table for 3 and get in.

We were at Cali Grill last week, had ressies 90 days out and they sat us at a large 4 top table.

Tonys at MK we had a nice 4 top, Blue Zoo gave us a 4 top too.
