The cats in the kettle...

I'm not sure if I should laugh or say ewww at this.

I'll have to have my DH listen to it. He is not a cat person so he'll get a laugh from it.

My sister used to work with a guy who lived in a really run down low income area of a town near their work and he told her that they often caught strays and BBQ'd them for meals. Eeeeeeewwwww!!

DD found this a while back and I thought it was hysterical. I am not a fan of Chinese food anyway, so I can say "Ewwww" and mean it.:p

Well thats a heck of a song to have stuck in your head the rest of the day. :p

Am I the only one who finds this racist?

Being Chinese American myself, I find this highly stereotypical of the general thought that all chinese restaurants serve cats and dogs as entrees, so the song would say.

Before I go further, I want to preface this by saying that I abhor the use of such animals as food and have never eaten any dog/cat or pet. This being said, we cannot 1) generalize the use of cats/dogs as food to only the Chinese culture (that's just being ignorant) 2) Just as we love our dogs/cats, we eat cows, which are in some cultures as close to untouchable as it gets.

We live in a society where food is plentiful...where the choices of what to eat every day ranges from fruits and vegies to all types of meat (not to mention restaurants and such). When you live in a society where food is scarce, where a 1/2 a pound of rice has to be split between your entire family for the week, you might feel differently about having to broaden your choices of food, unfortunately. Some families must do what they can to survive.

I don't mean to stir the pot here, but I find this just as racist as someone making a song insinuating that all Chinese people know "karate" or that all Amish are stupid (I don't want to list any more for fear of being a hypocrit)

just my opinion, take it for what its worth

 Wow. Sorry I was trying to take 5 minutes out of someone's day to make them laugh.

To be honest, when I first heard this song, I thought of the Chinese place next to our old store.

Every single day we drove by, the workers were always STANDING in the dumpster and attempting to get the cats outside. I don't know why. I didn't eat in there again between that and the roach I saw skuttle across the buffet counter. :crazy2:
