DS1 - 15, not too cool for Mickey
DD - 12, still the princess
DS2 - 4, the reason for this trip
We had a very busy week leading up to our trip. Our schools finished up and Abbey had her leaving night at school as she is heading up to high school after the holidays. They held an Oscars ceremony to show some films they had made, and her group won!
Here they are all ready to go:
Later in the week it was turn for Lewis to 'graduate' from nursery, he'll start school in August, just after his 5th birthday:
So there was plenty to do, loads of packing to organise, decisions to be made about what the weather was to be like - many sites saying there would be thunder storms etc. Eventually I just packed for sun, and threw some kagools in for good measure.
So, suitcases packed, lunch made we headed off at about 10am on Saturday morning. Lewis watched his dvds, Mark and Abbey had their ipod/netbook to keep them amused and we stopped a couple of times.
We used the M6 toll road for the first time, and found it very good. Had fun coming over the bridge at the Dartford crossing, as this is where we took a wrong turn last time, so dvd, radio were switched off and Lewis was told not to utter a word - we managed it very easily and were in familiar Ashford by tea time.
Checked into the Holiday Inn Central. When I had made the reservation I had asked if all 5 of us could stay in the same room, as Lewis would probably sneak into our bed anyway as he does at home. It seemed a waste to get 2 rooms. They checked with the hotel and said it was fine. Our room was fine, a double bed, single bed and bed-settee (single). They had put a travel cot in the room, but I noticed there was a pull out bed underneath the sofa bed, so I just moved the covers onto that and put the travel cot away.
We went to Eureka park where we knew there was Frankie and Benny's and we had our meal there. It was very hot outside, and no air-con inside - so I was just deperate to get out of their and get to bed. We were served nice and quickly. Me dh, ds1 all had burgers. Abbey had a pizza and Lewis ate from the kids menu, bill for 5 was £48.76 including drinks.
Went back to the hotel and crashed out. It was fine, although as there was an interconnecting door, we could hear the people next door talking into the wee small hours - I thought our bed was a bit hard, but i suppose that's just personal preference.
I think I was awake anyway running lists through my head all night, passports, tickets, money etc - check times for the train again, have I put the right clothes out for everyone - so it was my own fault probably!
