The Calories Don't Count When the Food is Free! (Complete 11/24) Pics!

Great reviews! I can't wait to read more. I loved the pot roast at 50s prime time. My kids loved the fried chicken!

After a busy day at the MK, we headed to Ohana for dinner. I was really excited to see the Polynesian, since it is my dream resort, but as long as I'm teaching, I don't think it will be in the budget.
We were seated off to the far back of the restaurant but near a window, which was nice.

The Food
Bread and Salad
100_3243.jpg

Travis really liked the bread and probably would have eaten the whole roll, but he stopped himself when he saw the other food come to the table next to us. I tried a bite, but I don't like coconut, so I wasn't a fan. I thought the salad was really good and really liked the dressing - it was very light and fresh. I wish there hadn't been so much other food to look forward to, so I could have eaten more of the salad.

Chicken Wings and Potstickers
100_3244.jpg

The chicken wings were awesome!:worship: The sauce was really yummy! Normally I don't like chicken on the bone, but I gobbled a couple of these down and so did Travis. Again, I wished that there wasn't so much other food to eat, because I would have eaten more of the chicken wings! The potstickers were tasty, but I didn't like that the outsides were crispy, so we only ate one each.

Noodles and Broccoli
100_3245.jpg

I thought the noodles were perfectly cooked! There wasn't much flavor to them, but they were really good. The broccoli was really crisp and not overcooked. I only ate a piece (to make my mom proud), but Travis ate about half the bowl (his mom should be really proud!). Both the noodles and the broccoli were good, but they got passed over quickly for some of the other food.

Meat
100_3246.jpg

More Meat
100_3247.jpg

We each got a little bit of chicken, shrimp, pork, and beef. I thought the shrimp was really tasty and well cooked, but it was a pain to peel and my hands were covered with sauce! I thought the chicken was a little dry and didn't have much sauce on it, but Travis said his pieces weren't dry, so maybe it was just that my pieces were from the end of the skewers. Travis thought the pork was very tender and well cooked, but I thought it was a little dry too. I didn't end up eating any of the beef, but Travis said it was just average - like a decent grocery store steak.
I had wanted to try some of the sauces, especially the peanut sauce, since I generally like it, but they didn't bring it out to the table, because Travis is allergic to peanuts. We had asked them to just bring it to the table, so that I could try it, but for some reason they didn't. They brought the other two sauces, but I wasn't a huge fan of either one.

Bread Pudding
100_3248.jpg

After all the food were were both stuffed! Our waiter brought out a huge piece of bread pudding with two huge scoops of ice cream and covered in caramel sauce. Travis declared it "super duper yummy" and "the best bread pudding he's ever had." He even had to call his friend after we left the restaurant to brag about it. I thought the ice cream and caramel was really good, but I wasn't a huge fan of the bread pudding.

Travis said this was his favorite restaurant of the whole trip and I think it was because of the 1. bread pudding and 2. endless meat! I thought it was a good meal, but I definitely did not eat $30 worth of dinner, so we won't be back without the dining plan.

Not food, but the funniest statue in the gift shop!
100_3253.jpg

After dinner we wandered around a bit more before heading back to the MK for the parade and fireworks. In the gift shop, behind the register, I found these tiki statues that I thought were super funny!:rotfl2:

I really wanted to try the famous Dole Whip and I didn't know if we'd make it back to MK after that night, so I grabbed an orange Dole Whip float before the fireworks. The orange ice cream part was pretty good, but I didn't like the combination with the pineapple juice. It was fine, but it wasn't anything special for me.

Subscribing! Most of your restaurants are on my list and feels like I can almost taste them

yes yes yes! keep them coming! I'm really enjoying them and it's helping me make final decisions for our upcoming trip!

<subscribing>

When we went back to our room to relax, Traivs got a Mickey bar. He said it was really good and tasted like a dove bar. I didn't get a picture before he chowed it down, so you'll just have to imagine it...

:mickeybar Couldn't resist the chance to get to use this smilie!

Great Reviews! I haven't been to Pecos Bill's in a long time. We didn't make it there on our last trip. My DH would love that Burger, me- not so much, (don't like burgers) but I always liked that fixins bar (the cheese sauce for the fries is really good!)

I looked for that smilie and couldn't find it! Thanks for helping! (It really did disappear about that fast too!)

I had read mixed reviews about Chef Mickey's, but I wanted to go there so that we would see the characters. I figured it was pretty hard to mess up breakfast food. I'm not a big "get up and eat a big breakfast first thing in the morning" person, so I booked it for "brunch" - the last breakfast sitting I could find at 11:20.
Disney2010748.jpg

We were seated pretty quickly and the waiter told us that we had time to go get food before the characters. We ordered a Coke and apple juice to drink and it took our waiter forever to get them to us! She got drinks for two tables that were seated after us, before she got our drinks!
Our first plates
100_3407.jpg

My second plate
100_3408.jpg

We both got pretty much the same thing on both trips to the buffet.
I got a Mickey waffle - there is just something about a waffle in the shape of a Mickey head that makes it much tastier. They were making the Mickey waffles in larger numbers and just setting them on a tray to take, so both of the ones I had were a little cold. It was nice though, that they had little bowls by the syrup, so you didn't have to get the syrup all over everything else on your plate.
I also got French toast, but it was dry from sitting out, so I didn't get more on the second plate.
The tator tots were just normal tator tots, but they were a little cold from sitting out.
I thought the breakfast pizza was pretty good - it had cheese, eggs, and bacon on it, if I remember correctly) - but it was cold too.
I was excited to have some fruit, since the fruit had been so good at Boma, but this fruit was blah and tasteless. Travis got a whole orange and only ate one slice of it, because it was so tasteless.
I had some of the scrambled eggs with cheese - they were super fluffly and cheesy and tasty - they looked like egg spit up in the bowl, but they tasted great!
I also got some of the cheesy potatoes. They were strips of potato, like hash browns, and covered with a cheesy sauce. They were really good and I made sure to get some more on my second trip to the buffet.
I also got sausage and bacon. The sausage was weird and I didn't like it - I think the casing was too thick for me and the spices were too much. The bacon was pretty standard bacon, but I grabbed a couple pieces that were more fatty, so I didn't care for them. On the second trip up, I grabbed a couple pieces of bacon that were more well cooked and there were better.
Travis got a biscuit with sausage gravy. I thought the biscuit looked really dry, but he likes them that way, and the gravy looked like spit up gravy without much sausage. I didn't try them and Travis didn't make sure I took any notes about them, so they must have just been ok.
Travis also got a hard boiled egg and didn't make any comments about it, so it must have just been a normal egg.
Travis got a cinammon roll, which he said was pretty yummy. He also got some donut holes that weren't out on our first trip and actually shared one with me. They tasted like Krispy Kremes. We each got a brownie - Travis thought it was really good, but I thought they were really dry and only took one bite. :confused3

A birthday cupcake
Disney2010755.jpg

Our watier brought Travis out a birthday cupcake. This was the only restaurant that really did anything special, even though I made a note of his birthday on all of the reservations. The cupcake was frozen and tasted awful! Travis was full, but I tried to eat it and only took one bite.

Us with Pluto
Disney2010758.jpg

The biggest problem we had was seeing the characters here. Goofy came around shortly after we sat down, but after that none of the other characters were even roaming the restaurant. I know that we had a late breakfast reservation, but we had to sit for over 20 minutes after we stuffed ourselves before the next character came around. The two tables next to us gave up and left, but I wasn't going to leave without seeing all 5 characters. If we ever come back here, I would probably try to get a reservation at 11:00-ish, rather than the slightly later reservation we had to try to not have to wait so long for the characters.

We "almost" had this same issue in 2007, with an 11:15 "brunch" seating. We didn't get seated till about 11:45. While we were eating, we only saw 1 character (can't remember who now). I was starting to get irritated that we would be there forever, but then it all worked out great. Right as we finished up eating, all 4 of the other characters came over one right after the other. The restaurant was nearly empty, they spent some time with us and it was great. It actually worked out well that the kids got to really eat and then see most of the characters. If we would've been just sitting there though...that wouldn't be good!

We had eaten at Wolfgang Puck on our trip last year and really liked it - enough to eat there twice, so Travis asked to go back this year.
100_3434.jpg

Travis ordered the pepperoni pizza with a brownie and drink and I ordered the mac & cheese with a creme brulee and drink.
100_3433.jpg

I thought the mac & cheese was awful! :crazy2: It was noodles with crumbly cheese on it. I really like creamy cheese sauce on my mac & cheese. I normally love mac & cheese, but I only ate about two bites of this! I remembered that I ordered both the mac & cheese and the chicken alfredo last year and thought one was great and the other was awful, so hopefully I remember which was which in the future.
Travis said his pizza was ok, but he thinks that he has better pizza from Pizza Hut. I thought it looked good, but I don't like pepperoni, so I didn't try any.
I had never had creme brulee before and had read great things about the one at Wolfgang Puck, so I decided to try it. I wasn't a huge fan of the creme part - it had a good taste, but I didn't like the flan-like texture. I really like the brulee part on the top and picked that off from the part I couldn't finish.
Travis didn't eat the brownie until we got home and it wasn't very good. It had a very gritty texture and tasted like it was made from just cocoa and sugar without much to make it taste like a cake-y or fudge-y brownie.

Overall, this meal was a disappointment compared to what we had last year. I definitely don't think that we would come here without the dining plan, since it is so expensive. We would order a different enter and also would skip dessert and go to Goofy's for a snack instead.

That mac and cheese doesn't look great! What a disappointment! We really loved WPE! It is a great value on the DDP, due to the entree prices.

I have been enjoying you trip report! Just noticed you are from Cary. I live in Apex and grew up in Cary! Small world!

We had gone for spring break last year and both really liked WPE and it was the one place that Travis actually requested to go back to this year. Unfortunately it was a disappointment for both of us this trip.

I have been enjoying you trip report! Just noticed you are from Cary. I live in Apex and grew up in Cary! Small world!

It's a small world after all. It's a small world after all. It's a small small world. :rolleyes1 We took a cruise to Hawaii for our honeymoon and were seated at a dinner table with a couple from Apex!

Sorry it's been so long since my last update - my scrapbook has been taking all of my time!

I had read that Epcot was crazy for the F&W festival, especially the first weekend, so we avoided it until Monday. We decided to use just snack credits to save our last counter service credit for just before we started our drive home.

Travis couldn't wait until the booths opened, so he got a Mickey bar from one of the ice cream carts in future world. Again, it diappeared pretty quickly, so I didn't get a picture. :mickeybar I did actually get to try a small bite, and I didn't care for the fact that it was dark chocolate, so I was glad that I hadn't gotten my own.

Argentina
100_3536.jpg

Travis got a beef skewer from the Argentina booth. I think he picked this mostly because it was one of the first booths and he was really hungry, but he ended up really liking it. He said the meat was really well cooked and moist. It was on a small blob of mashed potatoes, which were really good too. They had lots of butter and were really creamy mashed potatoes. There was also some pesto on them that enhanced the flavor of both the meat and the mashed potatoes.
Disney2010881.jpg

China
100_3538.jpg

Travis also got a black pepper shrimp from the China booth. He gobbled this up too, but I think it was more from hunger than it being good. He said that he had frozen Chinese food that was better and I agree. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. Both the noodles and the shrimp were well cooked, but neither had much flavor.

Brewer's Collection (near Germany)
Disney2010886.jpg

Travis decided to sample some German beers. He wasn't sure what he would like, so I suggested that he get the beer flight to sample several. He's not a big beer drinker, so he just asked for three lighter beers and the guy working the booth picked them out for him, so I don't know which ones he tried. He said he liked one and the other two were ok, but he could definitely feel the alcohol content in them for the rest of the afternoon. (Note: This was not a snack credit.)
100_3543.jpg

France Bakery
Travis had scoped out the bakery in France earlier in the week, but hadn't gotten anything because we had just eaten a big dinner. He really wanted a piece of cheesecake, so he ran ahead while I got my waffle from Belguim, so I don't have a picture, but he said it was "super awesome!"

Hops & Barley (America)
100_3556.jpg

I had read great things about the lobster roll, so I decided to get one. This was a really great deal for a snack credit, since the regular price for them was $7.25! I was a little disappointed in the lobster roll. The roll was very buttery and tasty, but there wasn't much lobster in it, mostly just filler and it was small. The lobster was a little tough and hard to eat, but overall this was yummy.
100_3554.jpg

Germany
100_3548.jpg

I went to Germany for three weeks right after high school with a school group and I had loved spaetzle, so I was excited to try some at this booth. My host grandmother had made homemade spaetzle for us for dinner one night and it was amazing, so I ordered the spaetzle. It was not what I was expecting at all. The spaetzle I had in Germany was noodles, like a pasta, but this was scrambled eggs with ham(?) in it. The eggs were very fluffy. It was very tasty, but totally not what I was expecting.
100_3547.jpg

Karamell Kueche
I wandered into the shops in Germany while Travis drank his beers and saw the yummy offerings in this case. The chocolate cupcake drizzled with caramel called my name. I tried to ignore it and left without getting one, but it kept calling me and I had to go back in to get it. I didn't eat this until I got home and it definitely looked like a mess in the box, but it tasted great! The cupcake was just a normal chocolate cupcake, but the frosting was really sweet and the caramel was really good with it.
100_3545.jpg

Belgium
100_3557.jpg

I was excited to try a real Belgian waffle, since I love light fluffy waffles. The waffle was really light, fresh, and hot. It was awesome! I wasn't as fond of the sauce on it. The flavor of the sauce was really good, but it had lots of hard seeds in it that made it hard to eat, so I scraped most of it off.
Disney2010902.jpg

You know, I have been to Germany too and had never had spaetzle like that. That seemed like a freaky egg-bake to me. I didn't like it (had it last year--didn't get there this year).

Great reviews---it seems like you have disliked a lot more than you liked--too bad!

Now that you say that, I guess it was true. I tried to get us to be more adventurous this trip, but it didn't work out so well.:confused3

I think I gave the guy who served it a look of "What the heck is that and where is my spaetzle?" before I realized that was my spaetzle. Oh well, if we ever go back, I know not to order that again!
