The Cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort

We love it. Our kids are early birds and it is so nice to be “in” Disney but have some seclusion and privacy via the standalone cabin. The boat to contemporary and MK is fun and there’s lots of activities within FW. We rent a golf cart as you have to take internal bus transportation to get to the different areas within FW. I’d recommend going over to the Camping board- there’s so much info there that has helped me so much!

We LOVED the cabins. It was great for our family of 3 because our young son could go to bed and we had the living area to watch tv and relax (unlike a regular hotel room). We loved all the extras, like the Chip and Dale campfire, playground, horses, etc. Our son enjoyed exploring the campground. We didn't use the pools, so I can't say how those are. I agree with Beachmom0317, the boat was a huge plus. We didn't get a golf cart, and didn't have any issues with long internal bus wait times. We're seriously considering staying there next year since we'll have a baby and want to advantage of the space to spread out. You can get Amazon Fresh or something similar to deliver groceries to help save money, since there's a kitchen. We brought stuff for breakfast and snacks with us.

We stayed there with our family of 6 and mostly loved it. For the most part, the "remoteness" was a plus, and not a negative.
My ONLY complaint:

We were a party of 6 and housekeeping gave us exactly 6 bath towels. We were there for Marathon weekend and some of us were running races every morning, so we were probably showering a lot more than most guests and just wanted more towels. So we asked housekeeping for more. We left the cabin, and there were MANY extra towels when we got back, so I don't know how long it took for them to give us the extra towels.

The next morning I took the extra towels we hadn't used and put them inside the bathroom cabinet so we'd have them for our later showers. Housekeeping came while we were gone....and took the extra towels and left us with exactly 6 again!! So I had to call again for more towels. And this went on every day, even though I left notes asking them to please leave us extra towels.

The night before the marathon, I called at about 7 pm to ask for extra towels (again!!) and by 10 pm, still no one had arrived with more towels. I had to go to bed--I had to wake up at 2 am for the race! I kept calling "the front desk" (which we all know really isn't!) and they kept insisting that someone from housekeeping had just left "the front desk" and was on her way. One person even told me the employee's name and insisted that she had left earlier to bring me my towels. I told them they needed to send out a search party to check on her because apparently she had been wandering around in the dark for over 3 hours!

Finally, a maintenance man showed up with some towels. I told him about this "missing housekeeper" and he told me that particular employee wasn't even working that night.

And yes, I realize that when you call the "front desk" you're really speaking with someone at a call center and if I wanted to speak with a real FW employee I should have gone down to the real front desk--but it was dark and about a half mile walk to the front, and I was already showered and ready for bed, and they kept insisting that someone was on their way and would be there any minute...

After 14 trips to WDW over the years and staying at most of the resorts we finally stayed at that cabins last year. I always felt that, based on the photos, it would be like being at a camp ground anywhere. While it was some what like that it was much better than expected and we loved it there. The feel is a bit more upscale in the kitchen and living area and a bit more rustic in the bedroom and bath. But the fact that your room is not connected to anyone else and all the trees and bushes makes for anvery relaxing stay. It was a little less “Disney” but was still fine. The rooms were comfortable and quiet though we never tried to sleep in. :) I would not stay here without a car thoughunless you are on a somewhat relaxed schedule. We did have a car and I would have been a bit edgy taking a bus to get on another bus or boat.
