The Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.™ Restaurant & Market

We went to the one on Daytona Beach Pier. We had all 6 of our kids with us (would have been 2 teenagers, 2 preteens and 2 littles at the time). The food was good, the atmosphere better and our kids loved it. So did DH and is excited about going to the one on CW on our upcoming vacation. I remember it as being good, but not the best seafood I've ever eaten, and I think it was one of the more pricey meals we had that trip.

imo red lobster does seafood right:thumbsup2 ; especially the broiled products - can't hide your mistake under a layer of breading.

does bgumps have anything that isn't deep fried? must admit that pic of all the grub on newspaper that b'smom posted looked wild! lol

this may be my dumbest Q thus far:upsidedow : I've never made it thru the book or movie:rolleyes1 (what can i say Tom Hanks gets on my nerves) is it required to be able to enjoy the atmosphere?

Tried it for the first time about 2 weeks ago and liked it quite well. I had fish and chips and DH had bucket of boat trash.

We ate at the one in CityWalk very recently. Each of us (there were 6) had a great meal! Not gourmet by any means but perfectly fine and acceptable. I am a food snob. It was a step above red Lobster (at least the location by me) and the seafood was fresh. Atmosphere was crazy loud but loads of fun! We had those amazing onion rings, boatload of trash, smothered fried chicken (awesome), Accidental Fish. Charbroiled Mahi Mahi and shrimp served over Jasmine rice in lemon garlic sauce.(HIGHLY recommend that one!) and a spicy New Orleans shrimp dish. The kids meals were plentiful and came with dessert (cup o dirt) and a soft drink.

I look forward to returning or finding one around here!:thumbsup2

We are most certainly eating here on our vacation! We don't have one over in the UK, and are running short on 'theme' restaurants too! I love Forrest Gump and Seafood so it works fine for me :) The food looks great and it comes in 'wow' sized portions. We're also intending to stop at the souvenir shop!

they don't take reservations

it's amazing to hear such "bad" reviews of the food....i don't eat seafood, and nobody at our table had anything bad....my chicken was very good! (altho, i'd prefer not to have 'gravy' slobbered all over it, but it was southern fried chicken!)

I noticed that in the pic on your TR. I thought it was odd myself. Noone in the south that I know drowns their fried chicken in gravy. Mashed potatoes, chicken fried steak, etc... yes, but not fried chicken. Maybe, some parts of the south do. :confused3

TAMMY- i don't know....we don't eat it like that here :confused3 (must be a southern thing?)

JANET- you don't need to know the movie, but it's a bit more enjoyable ...however, they DO run the movie on tvs there w/ closed captioning, so you might get interested.
During the Valentine's Day snow here, the 3 of us stayed home and popped Forrest Gump in the VCR and watched it.....the restaurant (that we had just eaten at a week prior) made more sense to DS then

I don't know. Born, raised, & still live in the south & your pic was the 1st time I'd seen it served that way. May be a Lousiana, Mississippi, Alabama thing. Who knows? :confused3 With all the people posting on the boards, we'll solve this puzzle eventually.

it's a southern illinois thing. right on the border to kentucky.

i speak from personal experience.......:flower3:

fried chicken with milk gravy...

hmmm, it is a very skinny book, perhaps I could tackle it again before trip; something different that the guidebooks i keep re-reading.:rotfl:

Ah Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. has my favorite shirt of all-time, and on it is the best quote ever.

"Mama said life's like a box of chocolates,
you never know what your gonna get."

-Forrest Gump-:thumbsup2

We were there last Wednesday. The food was great!!! We had the bucket of boat trash, peel and eat shrimp, fried shrimp, baked fish and a child's plate. We also had the dip appetizer (forgot the name). The service was wonderful. With six in our party, the kids were always flipping the sign and they were right there.

If you want the dip appetizer for free, go to the Orlando Visitor's Center and look for the brochures on the right side in the back. With the brochure size card is a business card down in the bottom of the slot. It's good for the free dip appetizer. There are lots of the better restaurants advertised there with free appetizer cards, percentage off total bill and a set amount off the bill just waiting for you to pick up.

I haven't been to the one at City Walk but the one in Daytona Beach was great. We loved the fun atmosphere, the Forest trivia and the license plates. We thought the license plates were really nice because anyone who saw that your plate was on the stop side would come to your table to help you, you didn't have to wait for your server to see it.

I had the fried chicken and got it without the gravy so if anyone doesn't want it with that just ask, they will leave it off for you. My boyfriend got the Mahi Mahi and even though I'm not a big fan of seafood I tasted it and thought it was very nice. We also got the appetizer sampler and I thought the hushpuppies were the best I've ever had, even if they did have seafood in them! The pomegranite margaritas weren't bad either...

I did think it was a bit pricey, it ended up being like 80.00 for us for lunch but it was a birthday meal and we splurge a little on those. The portions were definitely huge though. I could only eat about half of my meal and the rest was just as good the next day when I had it for lunch. :)
