The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

I have a few more questions if you wouldn't mind?

I bought Phantom tickets for 6/4 at 2pm through broadwaybox.com.

Nice! I'll be a few blocks away seeing Book of Mormon at that same time. :thumbsup2

I was going to buy tickets for the Rock of Ages evening performance on the 4th but the discounts are only good until May 31st. Since it is only April, is it safe to wait and see if they offer discounts further down the road?

The only discounts I see for Anything Goes is something about buying tickets to three round table shows. Is that usually the only discount for that?

Our choices for Sunday 6/5 are Anything Goes, Priscilla, and Billy Elliot. We'd be fine with any of those. Would it be foolish to try to get them from TKTS that day or am I better off getting them in advance?

Thanks for all your help!

All of those shows are regulars at the TKTS booth, so they should be available that weekend if you're not able to get the discounts in advance. Checck around the TKTS booth for discount flyers too, you can take those right to the box office to get discounts there.

Had the most amazing weekend! :yay::yay:

Today is my DH's birthday, so we celebrated all weekend!

Saturday night we saw "Baby It's You", loved it! It's the story of the Shirelles and Florence Greenberg, the woman who discovered them. The music, costumes and sets were wonderful. I can't say enough about the cast - every performance was spot on.

Yesterday we saw the final two performances of American Idiot.

Green Day showed up and gave a mini-concert last night - it was EPIC!!!! They played for about 40 minutes and brought the house down :banana::banana:

I am on :cloud9:, and will be for quite a while!! :dance3:

I was just watching some of the Green Day set on YouTube...amazing! I would have needed CPR if I'd gotten into the front row for that show. It must have been incredible to be there!

I'll PM you links to my You Tube videos!! It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life!

So this weekend was absolutely amazing for me. I saw Rock of Ages here in Des Moines and I loved it so much more than I imagined I would. I went into it knowing nothing about the story but it was awesome. All of the actors were amazing and the crowd got really into it it was so much fun and I have had a crush on Constantine since American Idol so getting to see him live and then meet him backstage was incredible. I would love to see it again with him in it but won't be able to before he leaves the show in July. Oh well at least I got to see it once.

That's awesome, I loved Rock of Ages! When I saw it in NY, after Constantine hit that big note at the end of "Oh Sherrie" someone in the audience yelled "Take THAT, Simon!" and the whole audience went crazy. It was really funny. :rotfl:

MissDisney, did you know that the Des Moines Civic Center is going to live stream the 2011 - 2012 Season announcement tonight at 6 pm?

Also, have you gone to see Les Miserables in Omaha yet?

Not actually backstage, outside at the stage door.

Yes I watched the live stream. I am pretty excited. I was hoping In the Heights would be coming and after last weekend I was futilely hoping they would have Rock of Ages again. I am looking forward to seeing Wicked again (probably for my birthday), Bring it on the musical sounds awesome, Billy elliot and Memphis both sound good too.
I haven't gone to Les Mis yet. I am going this weekend and I talked to one of my family members this weekend about the theater that it is at and she said it is an amazing theater. so I think it will be really great.

I'm SO EXCITED that Billy Elliott is coming!!!!
Can't wait to see it, even though it is going to be more than a year from now!!

Also looking forward to seeing West Side Story and La Cage and Rain. A lot of DS's choir friends are in a summer youth production of West Side Story, so I'm glad we will be able to see the touring company.

DH is not excited about Bring It On or Memphis, but maybe I can change his mind. ;)

Let me know what you think of Les Mis!

And where is the stage door at the Civic Center? :confused3
We may have to check that out!

I read online today that "American Idiot" is going on tour next year.

I promised my son - a HUGE Green Day fan - that if they ever came to Seattle that we would go.

Well, guess where we will be going on one day between June 5-10th 2012??

He is sooo excited! Time to save up our money to pay for tickets, LOL.

I saw Book of Mormon this past Sunday!

It was...funny. Very funny. But some of the language was shocking. I am 33 and saw it with my parents and I blushed throughout pretty much the entire show.

The music was great. The story was well written. It was smart and interesting - there were no parts that dragged.

I would go see it again - but be very particular about who I saw it with....

Oh I forgot to mention La Cage. I am very excited about that. The Birdcaqe is one of my favorite movies and I can't wait to see the musical that inspired it.
I'll let you know about Les Mis.
The stage door is outside of the west entrance toward the sign on the corner.

Haven't read any of this, but I just want to say that I miss The Whos Tommy! Saw it once, was about to see it for a second time, and it was shut down...

We saw Anything Goes on this past Sunday and LOVED it! It started at 2, btw. It's one of my favorite musicals of all time and this one did not disappoint. Sutton Foster was just amazing!

I love Sutton Foster and I'm sure she did an awesome job. OTOH, how was Joel Gray--he's gotta be pretty old now.

Saw Anything Goes in previews a week before it opened. Sutton Foster is probably the best star on Broadway these days. I think I read that Joel Grey is 79. He was just OK in the show. His timing was a little off and his voice and dancing are not what they used to be. A pleasant surprise was Jessica Walter's performance as the mother.

I saw the last 30 seconds of Book of Mormon last Saturday. Went with a friend to NYC. His 80 year old mother was at his home when I picked him up. She asked him to buy tickets to Mormon for her. I tried to warn her that it was somewhat raunchy, but she said something like "Oh yeah, I heard it's very vulgar. I want to see it!" Anyway, when we got to the theatre the matinee was just about to end, the doors were open, so we saw the cast finishing the last song. The audience seemed to really enjoy it. Couldn't get tickets for a Saturday until July.
