The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

It's a bit pricy, but the food is great!

I would recommend reservations, especially if you are going there before a show, as they get really crowded at those times.

Here is their menu:

We've also tried Azalea, in the Hotel Kirkwood, but I've heard that is now closed.

Do you have any other dining suggestions near the Civic Center? We are always up for trying new places.
Thanks for the advice about splash. The menu looks good. One of my favorite places to eat down there is Dos Rios if you like mexican food. It is really close, on court avenue, and really good.
Also we saw Les Mis on Saturday and it was amazing. The cast was so good and the sets were amazing, I loved the screen in the background. I teared up a few times. Also kind of funny I joked with my mom about how we were in the nose bleed section and literally 30 seconds into the show I got a nose bleed. luckily it wasn't bad and I didn't have to leave the show. I would love to see the show again sometime.

Ugh, so annoyed about the Radcliffe snub. This is the second time! He wasn't nominated for Equus either. He was nominated for every other award (Drama Desk, Outer Critics, etc). That was such a deliberate snub, it's ridiculous. :sad2:

I don't know if he was good enough to win it, but still, he was wonderful in that show, he absolutely should have been nominated.

Glad to hear about Jerusalem, though. I have a discount thing for it, I should check it out.

I saw the nominations on the news today and I actually thought of you, lol! I knew you'd be happy. I am going to try to get in to see Jerusalem one of these days:thumbsup2

You really should try, it's a limited engagement. I can't say enough good things about this play!

I'm seeing Catch Me if You Can tonight with a group from school! They go on two show trips a semester and I try to get to at least one a year. They're pretty cheap, too - this one is $25 and it includes the train ticket to and from the city. (I think the most expensive was Wicked and that was $35 plus another $20 for dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe - it was a really fun trip)

Over the past four years I've seen several shows with them. I think I've gone on the trips to Mary Poppins, Hairspray (both as a freshman), Wicked (as a sophomore), Hair (as a junior) and Billy Elliott and now Catch Me if You Can as a senior.

Glad to hear you liked Les Mis, even with the nosebleed!

Are you going to see Young Frankenstein this week? We thought about it, but are too busy to get there this weekend - it is Finals Week next week at University of Iowa (where DD is a sophomore), and DS has his track conference tournament on Friday and his school concert choir contest this Saturday.

Hey Kimberle,
Did you eat at the French Restaurant?
I am thinking, in the Theater District, it may have been Marseille?
If so, let me know if you liked it!

Did you get the PM's I sent you? For some reason I can't receive any.

Has anyone seen any shows lately? I saw both Million Dollar Quartet and Sister Act on Wednesday. (I have friends in both shows so I went to see them) It was my 3rd time seeing both of them. I'm not crazy about MDQ but I went to see my friend when she was the understudy and now she's playing the role full-time and then Sister Act is just so much fun! And then on Saturday I saw Lysistrata Jones off-Broadway. It was a modern retelling of Lysistrata set in the world of college basketball. It was very good and even though it's playing a limited run off-Broadway I hope it has a life afterward! It was even staged in a real gym, which was awesome!

I'm seeing The Book of Mormon next Saturday. I can't wait! I'm trying not know too much before I see it, but I did hear samples of the cast album on iTunes and... :lmao:

We saw Jersey Boys on mothers day and saw Alice Ripley in Next To Normal on Saturday. Both incredible, but holy cow, dd and were sobbing at Next to Normal, wow!!

I need advice on what to do.

We will be in NY in 9 days! We have tickets for the June 4th afternoon performance of Phantom.

We decided to see Rock of Ages that same evening. I have been waiting for weeks to find a decent deal on tickets but I somehow missed that Broadway Box doesn't EVER have tickets for Friday or Saturday night shows. How I have managed to miss that little detail all this time is beyond me!

Anyway, we would be willing to see something besides RoA but I am afraid we won't get any tickets if we wait until we get there.

Our plane doesn't get in until 11am that day so we may or may not have time to hit TXTS depending on delays, traffic, hotel check in, etc. If we don't have time, would there still be tickets left after the Phantom show lets out?

The sole purpose of this trip is to see three shows in about a 33 hour time frame so I really want to make sure we get tickets for something on Saturday night.

Should I just suck it up and pay full price online so I am guaranteed seats?

I have a kinda on, kinda off topic question. Our high school does not have a theater. They raised enough funds to do their first show this year, Godspell. We did it in a cafetorium that we had light rails installed in. There is no curtain and really no wings to move set pieces in and out of. The set only moving pieces we had were two saw horses and 3 planks. Ok, now my question. We need a good, crowd drawing show, we can do in a limited space like this for next year. Anyone have any suggestions?
